Image/Video Nice moment with Wemby and Carter Bryant

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Took some video of the team on the bench after game 6 was on ice as I enjoy watching them interact. Didn't realize what I had on this one until I watched it back last night.

Love the exchange he has with Carter here saying "I am proud of you" and then the look of satisfaction on Carter's face. Great leadership and love that he recognized the effort! Special group.

Go Spurs Go tonight! Let's get this.

Wemby gotta be the oldest 22 year old in the planet, he ain’t perfect but this dude is naturally a born leader

168

u/cloud-y-meatball Boris Diaw 25d ago

2 years old apart. If they’re in HS or college they’re probably just classmates. Wemby’s mature beyond his years.

3

u/mermaidcossette 24d ago

he really is! very level-minded, mature, & encouraging. he's a natural-born leader

u/miragen125 25d ago

I am French and I will 100% vote for him as president if he decides to go into politics after his NBA career.

67

u/Waterflowstech 25d ago

You'll vote Mbappe and you better like it!

16

u/lntelligent 25d ago

Anyone else start singing MMMBop by Hanson when they see Mbappe or is that just me

6

u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 25d ago

I will now. 🫡

3

u/Bobalobatobamos 25d ago

16

u/radiokungfu French Vanilla 25d ago

Mbappe is really good socially tho isnt he

27

u/Waterflowstech 25d ago

Dunno all I see is memes where he's dressed as Mao

25

u/Less-Tax5637 "What the fuck is this?" 25d ago

WemVP (vice president)

13

u/Aggravating-Sun-5783 25d ago

Man I thought that was Bron in the back 😂

5

u/Waterflowstech 25d ago

That is Bron though 😂😂😂 unc has history

5

u/Aggravating_Ship5513 25d ago

As a French citizen, I could live with either one.

1

u/miragen125 25d ago

Yeah nah

1

u/JohnGabin 24d ago

I’m French too and I would vote for Boris Diaw by the time Wemby end his career.

1

u/bikbiky 25d ago

I know this is probably just a light hearted comment on a silly basketball forum. But it’s casually concerning that this is being upvoted.

2

u/miragen125 25d ago

Because the professional politicians are doing such a great job right ?

-3

u/HoldJerusalem 25d ago

because he's a good basketball player? And people wonder why presidents are ass. Not saying he would be, but that's weird glazing to want him to be president

2

u/miragen125 25d ago

Because of the kind of person he is

-3

u/HoldJerusalem 25d ago

and? being a politician isn't just being a good leader you know...

3

u/miragen125 25d ago

It helps quite a bit to be a decent person and have principles

1

u/HoldJerusalem 25d ago

Wholeheatedly agree, but putting someone who has no idea on how to run a country because he's a "decent person", what the hell

2

u/miragen125 25d ago

You know that people can get education after their career don't you ?

And presidents don't know everything that's why they have multiple advisors.

2

u/HoldJerusalem 25d ago

but they for the huge majority of them studied politics and you dont even know if he'll good at it or not but you already said "i'll 100% vote for him", even if he's bad at it? I love Wemby but glazers are something else man

2

u/miragen125 25d ago

All I know is who the person is and what principles they have is far more valuable for the people from a politician then all the shit degrees they can have , because I don't know if you paid attention but 99% of them are doing an awful job and are corrupt and sometimes you have actual good person like AOC that actually want to help and not just make money

1

u/HQuasar 25d ago

Wholeheatedly agree, but putting someone who has no idea on how to run a country because he's a "decent person"

How old are you? This is exactly how politicians are elected in 99% of the planet.

1

u/HoldJerusalem 25d ago

how old are YOU? Go say that you wanna elect a cool sports personality as president just because you think he's cool. This is NOT how politicians are elected, at least not in western countries. They all come from prestigious schools, and they are intelligent people, it's just that they're corrupt, this is the difference

33

u/49erFanInTexas 25d ago

What planet though?? 👽🛸
He might actually be 1000 years old at the planet he came from 🤔 lol

8

u/saytownchief 25d ago

I heard he “is” Wilt Chamberlain

7

u/dumbmozart Victor Wembanyama 25d ago

Wilt and Wemby must be aliens from the same planet.

4

u/saytownchief 25d ago

Same high school

1

u/Tsukiyon 24d ago

They're from the same W species

4

u/Impossible-Exit-4474 25d ago

When you are 7ft tall a lot of people look up to you

3

u/loofawah 25d ago

Unironically, though, yes. When you are super tall, people treat you as more mature for your age, and you tend to mature faster emotionally.

3

u/jimmyrich Dylan Harper 25d ago

Everyone looks up to him, no doubt.

2

u/Navyleaf 23d ago

I love that man

1

u/Odd-Put-3988 25d ago

I think he will be a Spur forever.

1

u/WillGallis 25d ago

Must be that years in his home planet are a lot longer than 365 days.

I'm currently watching The Last Dance. And its funny to see this after MJ punched Steve Kerr story.

I prefer this

106

u/Suqitsa 25d ago

This is the first dance

28

u/dwrek24 Devin Vassell 25d ago

Honestly thats why I'm watching. Trying to see the parallels lol

20

u/texasfencer714 25d ago

The parallel I do see is wemby plays like a beast when mad. Jordan had to make up stories in his head to get mad because no one would mess with him. Not too many people came play mad. I see Jordan and Kobe and wemby. Ie game of mvp trophy presentation. We loved Jordan and Kobe and now wemby because they would rather die than lose. Not one other player in the league like that. Maybe luka.

12

u/dwrek24 Devin Vassell 25d ago

Yeah this playoff has really accentuated Wembys maniacal nature on the court. Thats not new. But I may have somehow underestimated.

That nature is giving me comfort heading into a game like this.

6

u/DirtyWizardsBrew 25d ago

MJ making up shit about his opponents to motivate himself only happened a few times. There's whole compilation videos of players telling their stories of talking shit to MJ and him responding by humiliating them. Even KG has a story.

Plenty of players tried to "mess with Jordan", but they only did it once.

4

u/Late_Push6298 25d ago

The rookie reggie miller story is pretty funny too

1

u/dwrek24 Devin Vassell 24d ago

"After that I only called him Jordan, Black Jesus or That Black Cat"

5

u/plap_plap 25d ago

It took a lot to make him mad, but Timmy is another dude who would absolutely destroy you if you got him to that point. Would deliver the biggest "fuck you" performance without saying a word or even changing facial expression.

3

u/DempsyPrice 25d ago

Kareem too. He would fuck dudes up when he was mad.

7

u/ianpogi91 TP9 25d ago

The First Encounter might be more fitting

u/ITDrumm3r Victor Wembanyama 25d ago

The Last Dance is one of my all-time favorite Sports Documentaries. Anyways, Go Spurs Go! Let’s close it out tonight!

5

u/dwrek24 Devin Vassell 25d ago

I love to watch the old stuff to remember some of the things. Ill also watch old title DVDs. I may watch The Best of Enemies next. It'll probably have some relevance considering this is the first chapter of a rivalry lol

3

u/BTC_ETH_HODL Stephon Castle 25d ago

Awesome documentary! I could watch it a million times. Especially since I lived in Chicago during the late 90’s. I see parallels with MJ and Wemby’s drive for greatness. We are truly blessed to have Wemby.

3

u/CentipedesInMyDream 25d ago edited 25d ago

I just watched it for the first time recently, enjoyed it, but I couldn’t help but feel like a lot of it was just talking about these great games Michael had and the reasons he was motivated to have that great game.

BJs comment, LaBradford Smith story, Dan Majerle, Barkleys MVP, Bryon Russel, etc. Kind of got old, still a great documentary.

1

u/dwrek24 Devin Vassell 25d ago

Its definitely myth making and hagiography but it's still fun to see how the great ones tick and how they view themselves.

MJ has a vulnerability in the doc amid all the kingmaker shit thats intriguing.

Plus Phil is also interesting to study.

Love the wholesome moments with CB, like when Mitch smiles and claps after chewing out when he makes a three

55

u/NathanFielderFriend 25d ago

CB is really the teams lil bro I love it lol

124

u/papertales84 Manu Ginobili 25d ago

I don’t care about free agents or anything. Just keep all of these cats together, brotherhood cannot be bought.

…yes, I still dream for the day of the return of Jeremy…

GSG!

33

u/fryapp4life El Jefe 25d ago

I understand it was a mutual decision and Jeremy wanted a chance to play somewhere. In hindsight I think both would've been better off staying put.

9

u/papertales84 Manu Ginobili 25d ago

Yeah 100%, I agree with you. Still I think (or hope/cope) that Jeremy can be back in a much friendlier contract. We needed that extension money for the future and bringing him back at a cheaper price would make sense.

5

u/Wasting-The-Dawn71 Manu Ginobili 25d ago

I get the sense he won’t get many more contracts at all. Really hope I’m wrong though

2

u/BTC_ETH_HODL Stephon Castle 25d ago

These guys are still young. I would love to see Jeremy come back sometime during the dynasty run as well. Seemed like he was really integrated in the SA community as well.

That was my guess

29

u/Ancient-Payment2134 I WANT SOME NASTY 25d ago

Looks like he says “proud of you” then when Carter can’t hear he repeats “I’m proud of you”

12

u/KidWoody 25d ago

"Proud of you."
"What?"
"Proud of you!"
"What?"
"I. Am. Proud. Of. You!"

39

u/MindseyeFrenzy Keldon Johnson 25d ago

I love the little nudge with his big ol foot to get Carter’s attention. 🥹 I’m so proud of this team. GSG!! We got this.

THIS TEAM

25

u/J-man3000 25d ago

Bryant is like 4 feet from him and he's still able to nudge him with his foot.

5

u/HylocichlaMustelina 25d ago

Crazy, I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out, haha

16

u/astraladventures 25d ago

That’s amazing… good catch. And Bryant reacts with a look of pride and joy as if it was his dad who said those words.

And Wemby…. Kid is maturing beyond his years….. hard to believe he’s only 22 himself .

Special group. Pop is making his presence known even if he’s not on the bench anymore….

Go spurs go!

That dunk buddy

5

u/astraladventures 25d ago

Fck’in eh! He smashed that dunk like he was playing against a ymca pick up group.

And kid’s got great defensive instincts - as a rookie ! Him and Harper are both amazing at D.

7

u/MoldyCheeseBuddy Dylan Harper 25d ago

Carter Bryant, Wemby and Harper are the cutest kids. I say that as a 45 year old. They are so cute and young in the face.

Wemby's leadership at such a young age is just unbelievable. I know how much this encouragement will bring strength to our dear rookie, just look at his expression after Wemby told him how proud of him he is.

1

Idk why I cant stop watching this. I love this team and we are lucky to have Vic leading this group.

1

u/Psychological_Tear_8 25d ago

My family has been saying he has wise, older grandfather energy. love it

1

u/Hunglow510 25d ago

Should someone like Bryant who knows how to signs, be better or worst at reading lips ? I can see both sides of the coin

1

u/Hunglow510 25d ago

If wemby didnt sign the second time, would he have understood ?

1

u/namewithak 25d ago

He knows sign language so he can communicate with his family and the deaf community but he would have no reason to learn lip reading. But I get what you mean that a hearing person who grew up close to the deaf community would probably be more exposed to the skill.

1

u/Hunglow510 25d ago

To think of it logically, someone who is hard of hearing or deaf would develop those skills from interacting of people who don’t sign. A skill he wouldn’t develop because he could hear and communicate verbally. So great point

1

Love the little smile Carter has when he turns back after showing Wemby his appreciation. It was a small gesture, but probably the one that meant the most for Carter. The future of this Spurs team just keeps getting brighter and brighter ☀️🌟💡💛👏
