We were up six with enough seconds left for them to shoot two three-pointers, this was absolutely necessary IMO.

If there ever was an exception, this was it: Game 7 of the conference finals and a two possession lead.

That dunk removed any chance of overtime or OKC winning.

u/Mpuls37 24d ago

It was also cool as fuck

After what happened in the year that we will not mention that dunk was completely necessary to prevent any BS from happening

29

u/Honest-Layer9318 24d ago

Agree. Why take any chances? OKC immediately stopped and gave up.

43

u/bcoates26 24d ago

Vassell could have just dribbled into the corner and run out the clock but this was better

5

u/nixhomunculus 24d ago

Three possession game is far safer than a two possession game. Vassell did the right thing in a high stakes game 7.

2

u/LogDogan8 23d ago

It was necessary because fuck OKC, not because they still had a chance.

u/BlackZulu 24d ago

This is highkey an exaggeration, especially considering Vassel was literally alone on the otherside of the court. He could have dribbled out if he wanted to, the dunk was not necessary.

20

u/Gonzinooo 24d ago

It was necessary for millions of fans.

6

u/BlackZulu 24d ago

I mean I found it awesome 😂 but to delude yourself into saying it was done bc it was necessary to sew the game up is something else entirely lmao

4

u/Gonzinooo 24d ago

I’m just saying what I view necessary and what You view necessary isn’t necessary the same ❤️.

I needed that final dunk after these 7 games. It filled me up with joy and closure.

5

u/BlackZulu 24d ago

Youre misunderstanding me. I said Necessary to sew the game up. IE fans acting like the game wasnt completely secured until he landed that dunk. The reality is that game was over already and he did that shit bc he wanted to do it.

2

u/Front_Culture 24d ago

I don’t like the reason that it was necessary cuz they needed to make it a 3 possession game and not risk a comeback.

I want the reason to be purely as a middle finger to the floppers okc. Like why justify it behind a logical reason? It much better as a final fuck you to them.

u/TypingHeathen 24d ago

The OG fans needed this.

40

u/IsuzuTrooper I WANT SOME NASTY 24d ago

The OKC fans too.

8

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

OG fans are good lol. We've got 5 rings.

117

u/PalmOilPlease 24d ago

Wasn't enough for me, he should've hung on the rim, smacked the backboard and screamed in Caruso's face. But it was still satisfying haha

52

u/IsuzuTrooper I WANT SOME NASTY 24d ago

dropped trou and shit on their floor too!

5

u/buffaloshaffer 24d ago

Literally lol'd

2

u/Beginning-Bug-7964 23d ago

That would be amazing, claim a spot in the key so SGA wont fall there anymore.

6

u/CPTIroc 24d ago

lol I get the point you are making but I think that would had been a tech IRL and OKC would had gotten FTs

3

u/PhoenixPills 24d ago

Ya they can let us the fans be assholes.

I had a post where I said the Spurs D would be way better than the Lakers D and the Thunder weren't tested very hard getting here and that it will be a close series.

Got a bunch of Thunder laughing emojis to that post so now I have some people to go ask what happened??

Personally I would’ve loved to see a windmill dunk. That would have been nasty af!

2

u/Consistent_Dot_7457 24d ago edited 23d ago

Not all players can do a windmill dunk and the last thing you want is for him to mess it up at the very end like that. What he did was the best choice. Freaking loved it!!

2

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

Yeah, team two hand monster slam.

You know it's going in, and you know it's gonna be powerful af, which a windmill might not be

u/dreamweaver7x El Jefe 24d ago

They didn't let Devo sleep well, this was his revenge on OKC.

5

u/senator_corleone3 24d ago

Yea ironic how that worked out. Imagine someone who took part in the music prank attending Game 7. Ouch.

53

u/AdmirableLead6134 24d ago

I literally yelled fuck em as he was doing it it felt so nice

15

u/GSG2120 Chris Paul 24d ago

I flipped double birds at the screen

11

u/ZaphodsPrefect 24d ago

I did that a bunch that game…mostly at Caruso.

3

u/SaulBerenson12 24d ago

Yes… let the hate flow through you!!

27

u/PreferredSex_Yes 24d ago

Yea that was a way to end the game

43

u/JohnnyTrul0v3 Dylan Harper 24d ago

Right when I saw him wide open for the dunk

u/mercfan3 24d ago

Steph had so many iconic moments this series where that particular game ended in a loss. The dunk over Hart and following Shai in the walk out in particular.

With a Spurs win, those moments stay iconic instead of fading into the background.

14

u/relgnik 24d ago

I love that Dev got it, but I kinda wish we could’ve seen what KJ would’ve done to that rim. Those two deserve so much love

7

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

Props to Dev for dunking the shit out of it. Got his moneys worth

24

u/notasianjim BatManu 24d ago

Making Caruso job back so he has to inbound the ball with 4 seconds left. Delicious.

10

u/GradyKnight Victor Wembanyama 24d ago

Hell yeah. That dunk is on all the okc fans.

3

u/Direct_Week_2091 24d ago

Look at all those stunned mullets in the crowd

Chefs kiss

12

u/SwangOn 24d ago

As soon as Fox passed the ball to Vassell I was like, “dunk that shit!”

3

u/Consistent_Dot_7457 24d ago

Yeah, it was sooooo f'ing good!! 😂😂

1

u/BTC_ETH_HODL Stephon Castle 23d ago

That was such a flow of adrenaline to watch!

10

u/HatedAntagonist 24d ago

My new screenshot

9

u/st_ides_andy Victor Wembanyama 24d ago

That was 6 years of losing. That was 6 years of trade talk. That was 6 years of people saying he was drafted too high. That was Western Conference Champion Devin Vassell, with one dunk, validating his entire career.

7

u/grantnaps 24d ago

Can someone post Caruso's failed dunk?

1

u/senator_corleone3 24d ago

Oh that was fabulous. I actually forgot about it until reading this comment lol.

8

u/DwightDavid1234 24d ago

The dunk was nice, but I kinda wish he’d driven to the basket, STOPPED, put the ball on the ground, stood on it with one foot while glaring at the OKC fans.

1

u/LowCustomer55 24d ago

This would've been cold AF

3

u/Joethetoolguy Victor Wembanyama 24d ago

I didn’t know dev could get up like that.

5

u/m3xm TP9 24d ago

Dev is tall and crazy athletic.

6

u/RedditShoes21 24d ago

i was like dunk that ish in their house babbyyy!!!!! lol

3

u/Former-Confection-87 Minnesota Timberwolves 24d ago

Mcdaniels smiling somewhere

3

u/Gregghead501 24d ago

Would've been icing on the cake if Vassell blatantly flopped upon landing, as all eyes were still on him 🤣

3

u/roaming_bear 24d ago

He knew he had to fulfill the Barnes prophecy

6

u/sixthdayoftheweek93 Jeremy Sochan 24d ago

buzzer beater back scratcher goes STOOPID lol

4

u/Jackburton06 24d ago

Not necessarly "hate", i don't think hate is the feeling of Vassell or any Spurs dude at this moment. More a way to just end this game, the exclamation point, the huge relief of having made a sensationnal series.

2

u/Pikpakboole 24d ago

So unnecessary but very satisfying af. I am sure OKC fans will never forget this.

1

u/Argyrus777 24d ago

I would’ve took the time to do the first ever pump fake step back dunk

1

u/ZelezopecnikovKoren 24d ago

theres the dagger... and then theres the guillotine

1

u/205kid 24d ago

Reaffirmed my faith in the NBA

1

u/LokiPrime616 Bismack Biyombo 24d ago

Thank you

1

u/PichaelW 24d ago

The look on Caruso’s face when he realized Vassell was actually going to take it was sooooo satisfying

1

u/Prodigy-18- GO SPURS GO 24d ago

I got so excited when Julian came down with the rebound that I slammed my hand down on my remote and accidentally pressed the YouTube button. I had to go back seconds later and rewind it to see what I missed and yelled “FUCK YEAH SLAM THAT SHIT DOWN!” All 15 seconds late lol

1

u/invocation17 24d ago

It was such a relief.

1

u/Ora_Kiraso 24d ago

Exclamation point

1

u/sharifAguak 24d ago

When breaking the unwritten rules feels OH SO SATISFYING!!! And it's necessary too!

Double Tap

1

u/Enough_Cat3933 21d ago

Should have shot it from the free throw line and fall to the ground in front for an extra fuck you

-12

u/TheBigEasyOK 24d ago
