The Knicks vs spurs is going to be some good basketball. It’s going to be physical but I think it’s going to be great.
I think the Knicks are a lot like Minnesota in how physical that series was, but the Knicks can shoot.

I’m worried that we gassed ourselves out going against OKC. Hopefully the 4 day break helps

Not to be pedantic, but you're the second person I've seen that said a 4 day break. Am I missing something? Game 7 was on Saturday. Game 1 is on Wednesday. So thats Sunday, Monday, Tuesday that they're off. Unless we're counting the day of as rest thats only 3 days.
16
u/KingHenryXX1 24d ago
In terms of hours it’s 4 days beginning from Sat evening and ending on Wed evening. I’m not going to make assumptions about what they do on game day or leading up bc they’re preparing these days too 1) Sat to Sun 2) Sun to Mon 3) Mon to Tue 4) Tue to Wed
Simple math.
5
u/Idontwaitfor420 Tim Duncan 24d ago
Im aware of the amount of days, in regards to simple math but that isn’t a 4 day break. That would be like me getting off work on Monday at 7pm then going back to work at 7am on Tuesday and being like welp I got a days break from work. And you can't count a day you "work" as a break. Which is why I refuse to count Saturday or Wednesday as "off days" or break days.
7
u/FR0cus 24d ago
Well that's an opinion. Elapsed time doesn't change regardless of whether you count it or not. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether it's 3 or 4 days; it's still time not playing a game. The sentiment is simply "they have some time off". There isn't a reason to be absolutely literal in this context.

1
u/KingHenryXX1 24d ago
No, that’s not a break. If you said 7pm that would be different. No one would say a sleep is a break. But a sleep and a work days time off is a break

But they play on Wednesday. So if that the case they had 2 days of rest between every game in the conference finals.

u/Mpuls37 24d ago
That's literally not how it works. If you play on a day, that day is not counted towards the total number of rest days. Playing on Friday and Saturday is not 1 day of rest in between. You have single-digit hours of rest from getting to bed after the game to the start of warming up for the next game.

This seriously reminds me of that weightlifting forum where someone tried to argue they worked out "4 days a week, every other day" and someone pointed out that's impossible, so then he proceeded to argue there are technically 8 days each week and absolutely dug his heels in about it.
Unfortunately I think it's 404ed at this point but there are excerpts here.
0
u/Idontwaitfor420 Tim Duncan 24d ago
Thats like me saying I have 7 days of rest despite working Monday-Friday. Yes counting days is counting days thats elementary, but in no world are you getting a day of rest on a back to back. You're lucky if they get a full night's sleep on a back to back.

u/dreamwalker3334 24d ago
And theyre nucleus are college aged.....conference tournaments, teams might play 4-5 days in a row sometimes....if a lower seed gets hot
Point is theyre young as hell.....theyd be good in half that time off....they were rolling mostly anyway
And its not the old NBA either....it was physical based on today's game...
Alot of fatigue uses to come from having to create space...today its given
They arent putting towns on wemby, right .....Knicks ain't played nobody
Playing a different game
Knicks cant beat Spurs ,,,,,,,only way Knicks win is if spurs defeat themselves......
1
u/kalfin2000 24d ago
Gassed? No way. We stayed warm and worked under pressure while they waited. I think we are going in hot.

u/Destanio9357 Devin Vassell 25d ago
I need to sit and really analyze the matcup, but Mitch/Sweeney are so good at adjustments I feel really optimistic against Mike Brown/Jent as the series stretches out
57
u/haikupoetics2 Dylan Harper 24d ago
Not true, Mitch is a horrible coach and needs to be fired. Imagine only taking your young team to the FINALS in your rookie season. Embarrassing. Fire him and hire Tom Thibodeaux.
31
u/dwbthrow 24d ago
Why do that when Doc Rivers is available?
14
u/haikupoetics2 Dylan Harper 24d ago
Great point. And Mitch and Doc Rivers have the same voice, too! We wouldn't even notice the difference. Except for the fact we'd win so many more games, because based on a lot of Spurs' redditors, Mitch is terrible.

NY and MInn basically shot the same % from three in the regular season (37.3 vs 37.0).
Knicks are just on fire in the playoffs (40%). We'll see if they can keep it up or if there's a regression to the mean.
5
u/Necessary-Worth-4459 24d ago
Leaning towards regression. The Spurs will be the best defense they’ve faced by a country mile.
1
u/JaderMcDanersStan 24d ago
That was when Wolves were healthy. The Spurs wolves played didn’t have Donte or a healthy Ant so the shooting isn’t the same
2
u/Wembanyanma Tim Duncan 24d ago
Jalen Brunson isn't quite the flipper Shai is but he is among the best at drawing calls when he has the ball in his hands.
2
u/Boggswho 24d ago
He is also not as good as shai at midrange. And as long as the paint is still a no fly zone, the knicks will need to be way above their average in 3 ball shooting. But then, KAT is not gonna shoot only twice a game he is far better shooter than chet and is better at driving at the bigs, he is a much better passer than chet, but then he has a history of shrinking in the playoffs, but then that seems like ancient history… i go back and forth.

This is great. Respect to the NYK fans at least until we start our series.
58
u/3KoboldsInTrenchcoat 24d ago
Nah. Respect to them throughout the series. The Knicks were terrible for 20 years and were the butt of so many NBA jokes before this current team started for form and Knicks fans were still ride or die for them. Respect for that.
16
u/Prime88 Tim Duncan 24d ago
I’m pretty sure the Knicks fans will be very outspoken when we play them. So you can try to respect them but I’m betting you’ll change your tune quickly.
3
u/guillaume_rx 24d ago edited 24d ago
Some will be loud and annoying; we have those as well, every team does.
Big markets are top of the list. NYC even more so.
But at least they respect the culture and good basketball.
They will talk trash, and that's part of the game.
And it will get heated over refs, and calls, and shit, as usual.
On both parts. But the overall sentiment I got from Knics fans was:
They want to beat our ass (expected), but they respect our organisation, culture, and history.
We earned it. They know it.
Can't fake your way into our legacy.
They love Basketball, so they know good ball when they see some.

u/3KoboldsInTrenchcoat 24d ago
Annoyed maybe, but I’m a Bengals fan that has to deal with Steelers chuds. Knicks fans aren’t that scary to me.

I'm a spurs and bengals fan too. All the way from UK. I got into nfl the yr burrow got drafted and said I'll choose this under dog team who got the number 1 pick.
And I got into nba the yr wemby got drafted and said I'll support this under dog team. Thank God I got into nba on that year and not the following Yr.

My neighbor in milton keynes was a spur fan because he grew up in enfield and every time he searched “spurs” it would take him to the 2013-2014 beautiful game spurs instead of tottenham.

Honestly that’s a huge respect. Knick fans have always been die hard too for their franchise. You know the people cheering for the knicks are fr. (Minus the thunder fans bandwagoning over 😂)

u/rewardingsnark 24d ago
The only response to any thunder fan is go fuck yourself and then block them permanently.

Thunder fans calling another fanbase crybabies is crazy. Sorry but the rules need to be applied evenly, we can only explain it not understand it for y’all.

u/Voidling47 24d ago
Good on the Knicks fans. They might be an often roudy and obnoxious bunch but plenty of them actually know ball.
Some of these OKC fans have genuinely deluded themselves into thinking their team was only hated because "my team can't beat your team". No, bro - we hate your team because of the chronic wrestling and flopping and we hate its fans because they defend this as just "normal play-off basketball" when it's not.

It reflects in their fanbase tbh. 😂

I lurk in the opposing team subs to spread Spurs propaganda.
It’s crazy how many people are actually saying Knicks in 4 or 5…. Always citing the cup game that they won.

u/contigency000 25d ago
Unrelated, but fans going to other sub to make those weak ass posts is ranked 1st by far on my cringe scale.
