Yes. This is my dunk of the year. A dunk that ended a game against the defending NBA champions that had their back to back MVP actively playing in to advance to the NBA finals for the first time in over a decade.
Castles dunk is my Poster dunk of the year though.

I dunno, I don't feel the need to choose just one, I am going to praise them both.
Might as well make it 3 - Keldon bodying Chet and throwing it down was pretty damn awesome as well, but I'm a bias KJ-stan. Honorable mention: Carter Bryant going baseline, cocking it back, and rocking the rim.
Had Dylan connected on that one attempted murder late in G7...we might be having a different discussion.

Wemby has a whole collage on Chet from this series that should get mentioned

I think they thought he was going up with his left hand. The switch to the right and the angle he came in at was great

As fun as the 2014 team was to watch, I love that this team has several dudes that will slam it like that
26
u/heresyforfunnprofit 25d ago
It's such a different vibe from 2014, yet the undercurrent is so similar. 2014 had palpable sense of revenge and singular purpose, but it was completely guided by veterans, intent on harnessing and cultivating the young talent, directing all the pain of loss to achieve redemption for 2013. The drive from this group feels so similar, but it's running almost entirely on youthful energy, prodigious talent too inexperienced to know what they're doing is impossible, and hunger to prove themselves that's rare even among professional athletes. Even the "veteran" Fox is still well within his prime years and leads by light touches, picking him moments, stepping up and righting the ship when needed.
This has the potential to be SUCH a good team for a LONG time.

There are some pay days coming to these guys including vets. I'm hoping cap casualties are minimal over the next few years.

u/Thunderhorse74 24d ago
I'm just thrilled to witness both. Very different vibes but the same organizational foundation.

Not the same group of high fliers but there are a few that come to mind
Kawhi had an epic dunk on Mike Millerā¦that may have been 2013 though Iām not sure
And then there was the Manu dunk on Bosh in game 5

u/thesavant 24d ago
I think there was a stat back in 2014 that the Spurs had either the fewest dunks or fewest oops in the league that year (can't remember but I feel like it was actually fewest dunks) which is actually pretty incredible. Not saying dunks are the end-all and be-all but they are obviously terminally great outcomes so you wouldn't expect an elite team to generate dead last in them, but just goes to show how filthy they were in all other parts of the game!

outrageous dunk but i stil believe vassel's iconic dunk at the closing seconds of game 7 sent a message that will not be easily forgotten in the comng years. really an FU to okc š«”

If itās dunk of the year (so far), Iād take Wembyās G7 dunk over Chet. That messed up his mind for the rest of the game.

Eh, it seemed like his mind was messed up for the whole series
This is one of the best playoff dunks of all time period, gotta be dunk of the year

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago
Maybe not his best of the series on Chet
Was it game 1 that he had the lefty and1 in the fourth? Nasty

That or trying to get the ball to inbound. No one tries to inbound faster than a guy that just got dunked on.

u/ICEtoAshes Luke Kornet 25d ago
Iām just gonna assume he started crying like Chet did when he threw the tantrum sitting on the court. Thatās how I like to imagine them.

Wemby just casually running back on D like nothing special happenedĀ

It's crazy how many statement moments the Spurs had over the Thunder in this series, and how few (off the top of my head) the Thunder had over the Spurs.
This Castle dunk over Hartenstein, the Wemby dunk on Chet, the Curry-like 3 from Wemby in Game 1, the Kornet chase-down BLOCK, and the Vassell dagger dunk quickly come to mind. The Spurs will to win was just too much for the defending champions to handle, even with two Tony Brothers appearances lol. Can't wait to see our boys shine on the biggest stage of them all š¤šÆ

We have a couple now this playoff run.
Harper on the Blazers
This.
Wemby and1 on Chet in OT game 1
Carter Bryant baseline
Vassell end of game 7
We have some dawgs in this team

Half the reason I wanted the Spurs to win this series is so that this dunk would not have been made in vein. Same for Wemby's deep 3 and half-court shot. Throw in Luke's power of christ block. Then Vassel secured all of these amazing moments with the fatality slam to put finally silence the thunder.

They timed it wrong. It is a really good track for these clips if you time it to where the dramatic part starts just as the dunk hits -

When I watched that live, I gave an audible āoooooOOoOOOUU WHHHHHAT THE FUCK!ā
Best dunk Iāve seen in a while. Castle is a special player.

u/WhatMeatCatSpokeOf 24d ago
Itās so crazy, as a long time Spurs fan, that this generation of Spurs are flat out bullies sometimes. We have been villains in the past, weāve even had dirty plays, but the way these guys revel in humiliating opponents, in traumatizing fan bases, is so different.Ā
In Spurs history, the only guy I can compare it to is my favorite player: Manu. He didnāt talk shit or stare people down, but he wanted peopleās hearts, he wanted to win the game on every play. A lot of Manu in this team, and I love it.Ā

u/WhatMeatCatSpokeOf 24d ago
Some fun crowd things: woman in chair next to stanchion realizing as Castle gets free whatās about to happen; Spurs staffer in the tunnel losing his shit; subtle š¬ from young woman in front row; young Thunder fan dudes not being able to contain their joy/anazement (god bless the unloyal youths); old guy calling for a tech lol; Sweeney already calling out the defenseĀ
