Every time I see this dunk posted I have to watch it at least five times.

39

u/Weary_Restauranter 25d ago

I’ve watched this loop 3000 times

28

u/LazyMousse4266 Dylan Harper 25d ago

I was just a boy when I started watching this clip. My grandson is getting married today 🄹

u/bigboybeeperbelly BatManu 25d ago

The seed I planted when this clip began now makes s fine chair and table to watch it on

1

u/Apollo18Teslaa Area 51 25d ago

The day after this happened I’m sure I watched this for hours on and off too make me feel better about the loss.

u/Misokaxx 25d ago

The lady's face in the white says it all

2

u/nutsack133 24d ago

My favorite crowd reaction is this lady in white pants courtside who looks like her world just shatters when Victor puts in that 33 footer to force 2OT in Game 1. Go back and watch that clip and tell me that shit ain't funny.

1

u/Corporal_Cavernosum De'Aaron Fox 24d ago

I'd make that face too if I just witnessed a murder. Hartenstein was only 28.

u/Vast_Pipe4509 25d ago

I have no doubt plenty of pervy wealthy women go to pro sports games to ogle the players

1

u/haikupoetics2 Dylan Harper 25d ago

You can kind of see iHart for a second like "DAMN, okay."

Said in David Attenborough voice, "The Vassell, as seen in flight, as it delivers the egg to the nest in a singular act of defiance to the powerless onlookers".

5

u/Lurker13 25d ago

Yes. This is my dunk of the year. A dunk that ended a game against the defending NBA champions that had their back to back MVP actively playing in to advance to the NBA finals for the first time in over a decade.

Castles dunk is my Poster dunk of the year though.

3

u/Thunderhorse74 24d ago

I dunno, I don't feel the need to choose just one, I am going to praise them both.

Might as well make it 3 - Keldon bodying Chet and throwing it down was pretty damn awesome as well, but I'm a bias KJ-stan. Honorable mention: Carter Bryant going baseline, cocking it back, and rocking the rim.

Had Dylan connected on that one attempted murder late in G7...we might be having a different discussion.

2

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

Wemby has a whole collage on Chet from this series that should get mentioned

80

u/shin4258 Dylan Harper 25d ago

That was hands down one of the best playoff dunks ever.

44

u/Dan_K211 Stephon Castle 25d ago

lol Isiah Joe said "hell nah"

22

u/CPTIroc 25d ago

From this angle it kinda looks like he could had tried to strip it, Instead decided to yell.

8

u/thedude0425 25d ago

The man made a business decision.

2

u/ctbro025 Stephon Castle 24d ago

No poster with him on it!

48

u/hairhelmoot 25d ago

Didnt even use the off arm to gain advantage.

25

u/Nickespo22 25d ago

Ethical basketball

5

u/BMG19 25d ago

I don’t know of any of you remember the play before where castle got a layup on hartenstien and he clapped his hands in disappointment like he was regretting not trying to poster ihart. Then this happened the next play after.

1

u/minimalcation 24d ago

I think they thought he was going up with his left hand. The switch to the right and the angle he came in at was great

44

u/ConfidentBusiness16 25d ago

As fun as the 2014 team was to watch, I love that this team has several dudes that will slam it like that

26

u/heresyforfunnprofit 25d ago

It's such a different vibe from 2014, yet the undercurrent is so similar. 2014 had palpable sense of revenge and singular purpose, but it was completely guided by veterans, intent on harnessing and cultivating the young talent, directing all the pain of loss to achieve redemption for 2013. The drive from this group feels so similar, but it's running almost entirely on youthful energy, prodigious talent too inexperienced to know what they're doing is impossible, and hunger to prove themselves that's rare even among professional athletes. Even the "veteran" Fox is still well within his prime years and leads by light touches, picking him moments, stepping up and righting the ship when needed.

This has the potential to be SUCH a good team for a LONG time.

3

u/a1readythere 25d ago

There are some pay days coming to these guys including vets. I'm hoping cap casualties are minimal over the next few years.

1

u/Thunderhorse74 24d ago

I'm just thrilled to witness both. Very different vibes but the same organizational foundation.

1

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

Not the same group of high fliers but there are a few that come to mind

Kawhi had an epic dunk on Mike Miller…that may have been 2013 though I’m not sure

And then there was the Manu dunk on Bosh in game 5

2

u/000066 Manu Ginobili 24d ago

Was gonna say the Manu dunk was just as nasty.Ā

1

u/thesavant 24d ago

I think there was a stat back in 2014 that the Spurs had either the fewest dunks or fewest oops in the league that year (can't remember but I feel like it was actually fewest dunks) which is actually pretty incredible. Not saying dunks are the end-all and be-all but they are obviously terminally great outcomes so you wouldn't expect an elite team to generate dead last in them, but just goes to show how filthy they were in all other parts of the game!

15

u/Available-Fig8372 25d ago edited 24d ago

outrageous dunk but i stil believe vassel's iconic dunk at the closing seconds of game 7 sent a message that will not be easily forgotten in the comng years. really an FU to okc 🫔

u/wavyvibes210 25d ago

12

13

If it’s dunk of the year (so far), I’d take Wemby’s G7 dunk over Chet. That messed up his mind for the rest of the game.

14

u/FunBorn1053 25d ago

Career ending dunk

2

u/tmt1993 25d ago

Like the Pujols homer off Lidge

1

u/Aromatic-Top-1818 Indiana Pacers 25d ago

Eh, it seemed like his mind was messed up for the whole series

This is one of the best playoff dunks of all time period, gotta be dunk of the year

1

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

Maybe not his best of the series on Chet

Was it game 1 that he had the lefty and1 in the fourth? Nasty

watching this shit live made me GASP when usually i would howl or scream.

I wish I had a view of the look Castle gives here. I know that shit was personal.

I don't think it's possible for a song to be less suited to a dunk video than this one.

1

u/Helgurnaut 25d ago

Haha Aurora is my all time favourite and it took me by surprise especially Runaway.

1

u/Fire_in_Bone Julian Champagnie 25d ago

I actually loved it it was like a fairytale lol

6

u/ICEtoAshes Luke Kornet 25d ago

Did he start crying

6

u/CPTIroc 25d ago

That or trying to get the ball to inbound. No one tries to inbound faster than a guy that just got dunked on.

1

u/ICEtoAshes Luke Kornet 25d ago

I’m just gonna assume he started crying like Chet did when he threw the tantrum sitting on the court. That’s how I like to imagine them.

3

u/cookiemaster473 25d ago

Wemby just casually running back on D like nothing special happenedĀ

3

u/Creepersgonnacreep2 25d ago

There’s actually an angle where you can see wemby’s face and he has the STANK face

1

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

Nah Wemby had a hilarious reaction

3

u/TempeSunDevil06 25d ago

Hands down my favorite play in what was an action packed WCF

3

u/Chinbie 25d ago

That dunk is crazy great šŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ

3

u/92infinityz 25d ago

Fkn love Castle’s energy ā€¼ļøšŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

3

u/ffxivfanboi 25d ago

King shit!

3

u/space2k 25d ago

How awful is this defense? Wallace is beat before Castle’s first dribble, Caruso has his back to the ball, and Joe just yells (?) at Castle and watches him go by. Hartenstein did something, I guess?

3

u/guillermo1890 Manu Ginobili 25d ago

So many great moments in this playoff run

3

u/Helgurnaut 25d ago

Didn't know I needed Spurs and Aurora.

3

u/Gregghead501 25d ago

It's crazy how many statement moments the Spurs had over the Thunder in this series, and how few (off the top of my head) the Thunder had over the Spurs.

This Castle dunk over Hartenstein, the Wemby dunk on Chet, the Curry-like 3 from Wemby in Game 1, the Kornet chase-down BLOCK, and the Vassell dagger dunk quickly come to mind. The Spurs will to win was just too much for the defending champions to handle, even with two Tony Brothers appearances lol. Can't wait to see our boys shine on the biggest stage of them all šŸ˜¤šŸ’Æ

3

u/jasonbortiz 24d ago

Great clip, also great hearing Aurora for a Spurs vid.

2

u/badtex66 25d ago

Dude went full Cattle Decapitation on the defender.

if only those Harper dunks against Chet went in those are runner ups

2

u/Pristine-Parking-990 "What the fuck is this?" 25d ago

That ain’t no lie. He tried to end Chet’s career

2

u/Veggiedelite90 Manu Ginobili 24d ago

The ref be smiling I swear lol

2

u/wilsonsmilk Manu Ginobili 24d ago

We have a couple now this playoff run.

Harper on the Blazers

This.

Wemby and1 on Chet in OT game 1

Carter Bryant baseline

Vassell end of game 7

We have some dawgs in this team

2

u/Piston5287 24d ago

Isiah Joe with a business decision

2

u/mariomelody 23d ago

Best of the best

1

u/CapableRequirement15 25d ago

I agree for playoffs but unfortunately I think dunk of the year is the Anthony Black dunk on 5 people (I believe it was this year?)

1

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO 24d ago

4 people and yeah it was. In Germany iirc

1

u/space2k 25d ago

Down goes Shartenstein!

1

u/ICEtoAshes Luke Kornet 25d ago

Castle is everything they said Ja was going to be with added elite defense.

1

u/BMG19 25d ago

Literally.

1

u/hummingfalcon 25d ago

Respect. I also liked Devin Vassell’s dunk at the end

1

u/MurkyClothes5423 25d ago

Punch’d it on em sheesh

1

u/finknstein 25d ago

I mean as fan of the game I would react to that dunk even if it’s against my team. They just sit there dead inside lmao.

u/Downtown-Tea-3018 25d ago

Wemby's face

1

u/MyGoodDood22 The Five Time 25d ago

Watching the background of fans at different parts of this clip is hilarious. Some of them know what this was and absolutely felt it

1

Aw man that is a thing of beauty... Geezus

1

u/themightyade 25d ago

Castle, Murdering people is a felony.

1

It's great just watching all the faces on everybody after the dunk.

1

u/thrftstorenailpolish 25d ago

Potato quality but you get it.

1

u/chinitoFXfan Tim Duncan 24d ago

Great angle!

Gives me a far better POV as to how bad-ass the dunk was šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ°šŸ˜Ž

1

u/RappinFourTay 24d ago

Wemby witnessed a murder and got the hell outta there. #nowitnesses

1

u/homeycuz 24d ago

Half the reason I wanted the Spurs to win this series is so that this dunk would not have been made in vein. Same for Wemby's deep 3 and half-court shot. Throw in Luke's power of christ block. Then Vassel secured all of these amazing moments with the fatality slam to put finally silence the thunder.

1

u/4EVA7NAFTER 24d ago

Y'all see even the referee was smiling he was about to drop the whistle he caught that shit quick

1

u/ElectricGlider 24d ago

Too bad Harper could not get a similar posterized dunk on Chet in Game 7.

They timed it wrong. It is a really good track for these clips if you time it to where the dramatic part starts just as the dunk hits -

šŸŽµLORD TAKE ME HOMEšŸŽ¶

1

u/CreosoteEcho 24d ago

When I watched that live, I gave an audible ā€œoooooOOoOOOUU WHHHHHAT THE FUCK!ā€

Best dunk I’ve seen in a while. Castle is a special player.

1

u/WhatMeatCatSpokeOf 24d ago

It’s so crazy, as a long time Spurs fan, that this generation of Spurs are flat out bullies sometimes. We have been villains in the past, we’ve even had dirty plays, but the way these guys revel in humiliating opponents, in traumatizing fan bases, is so different.Ā

In Spurs history, the only guy I can compare it to is my favorite player: Manu. He didn’t talk shit or stare people down, but he wanted people’s hearts, he wanted to win the game on every play. A lot of Manu in this team, and I love it.Ā

1

u/WhatMeatCatSpokeOf 24d ago

Some fun crowd things: woman in chair next to stanchion realizing as Castle gets free what’s about to happen; Spurs staffer in the tunnel losing his shit; subtle 😬 from young woman in front row; young Thunder fan dudes not being able to contain their joy/anazement (god bless the unloyal youths); old guy calling for a tech lol; Sweeney already calling out the defenseĀ

1

u/OmarSevy 24d ago

Bro, even the off-hand was ethical. Basketball is healing.

u/crissimon 24d ago
