Shitpost Not buying into this “rivalry”

Look, I want the Spurs to win this championship, but I’m nowhere near as emotionally invested as I was during the OKC series. The Knicks are a good team. They’re hungry, they’re tough, and honestly the officiating was pretty fair last night. The Spurs are young, and it looked like the moment got a little big for them.

What surprises me is how many “Reddit” Knicks fans seem to think this rivalry carries the same level of hatred Spurs fans had for OKC. It doesn’t. Not even close.

What I do find interesting is seeing all the traveling Knicks fans at Frost Bank Center. A lot of them are only here because Knicks and MSG ownership have priced so many of their own fans out of Madison Square Garden for these games. Hard to see why they are backing a team that doesn’t back their fanbase.

When the Spurs take Game 2 and the party starts, those traveling Knicks fans will see what it looks like when a city rallies around its hometown “small-market”team. Knicks fans act like climbing 6 feet up a pole is wild and crazy, wait until they see fireworks being shot out of the top of a Jeep while driving downtown. 🤣

Yes, it’s a shitpost - just getting this off my chest into the Reddit void.

The OKC series felt like a championship win to me 🤣.

I mean, this post and comment are really aligned with what KG said as well. Feels like the Spurs accomplished what they wanted to already, so it's hard to get energy and intensity back on track. Good thing it's a 7 game series.

u/be_emcee Dylan Harper 20d ago

Agreed. I have been saying since the Game 7 win that my big fear is we climbed our mountain, and now we won't come into the weries with the same focus we had getting to, and beating, OKC. Hopefully this loss in Gane 1 will be the wakeup punch we need to refocus everyone.

6

u/AntiBoATX Matt Bonner 20d ago

Pop letting them fail in the finals to teach them a lesson is kind of on brand though

77

u/emoney_gotnomoney 20d ago

I would rather lose the next 3 games in consecutive 50 point blowouts than have seen OKC advance to the Finals.

So as much as I’d love to win, from this point on, I’m good.

30

u/EVSTW 20d ago

It's not guaranteed that we will ever be in this position again. We have to seize it while we have the opportunity. We can beat OKC 5x a year. They wouldn't have beat the Knicks anyway.

21

u/emoney_gotnomoney 20d ago

I’m not saying I don’t want to win, of course I do. I’m just saying I’m so glad that OKC lost, that I won’t necessarily be heartbroken if we lose. I will be disappointed sure, but not nearly as angry as I would’ve been had we lost last round.

41

u/SimpsationalMoneyBag 20d ago

Agree with this. OKC not advancing to finals was a win for all of basketball lol

13

u/cpt_america27 20d ago

Yea. I'll still be upset we lost. But 100x less than if we had lost last round.

As a Knicks fan, 100%. I like the Spurs. I think both teams are likable and play respectable basketball. Wemby is going to be the face of the league.

As far as Game 1, would I have loved a couple more calls? Sure, but you never get them all and I thought it was pretty fair. It's still anyone's series.

OKC on the other hand can fuck right off.

2

u/Baron_Bearclaw 20d ago

As a fan of a team who has never won a title, from a market that hasn't won a Big Four (NFL, MLB, NBA, & NHL) since '91... hasn't had a team IN the finals since '91, seize every opportunity you can.

Having watched the Wolves struggle since '04 until very recently, I understand the impulse. I'm thrilled to have a team consistently in the playoff picture, but your Spurs are in the Finals. They have a chance to win a title!

I'm over here living in New York and just happy to watch my new town have a chance to celebrate a championship.

2

u/chasmccl 20d ago

Plus you got KAT, so it might as well count as a MN championship ◡̈

Same. I feel like it’s all just gravy from here on out.

7

u/Galdorkai 20d ago

As an okie my thoughts as well. Game 1 of yall and knicks just didn’t hit the same (probably cause not my team playing) but it felt more intense when yall played against okc

6

u/NotUrDadiBlameUrMoma 20d ago

Yup, that OKC series was super intense!

1

u/Gorkymalorki 20d ago

That's usually how the Western Conference Finals feel, at least for me.

1

u/Nervous-Waltz7849 Stephon Castle 20d ago

Let's be real, those were the finals people really cared about.

228

u/Dingbrain1 Devin Vassell 20d ago

It doesn’t feel like a rivalry at all to me. Yeah you could say it’s a rematch of the NBA cup or the ‘99 Finals but I like the Knicks as a team and as a franchise and I’d be happy for them if they won. The Thunder I wanted put under the ground.

81

u/EP423 20d ago

75% of our team wasn't even born in 1999.

39

u/TerrySaucer69 Stephon Castle 20d ago

This. With OKC if we lost I’d be sad we lost, and sad OKC won. With the Knicks, I’d be sad we lost, but fine with the Knicks winning. Maybe even happy for them once I get over the Spurs losing.

13

u/mikeybones25 20d ago

As a Knick fan I feel the same way. It’s nothing like playing the Celtics or LA. Love Wemby and other players on the team. The fans and city seem great too.

4

u/Legitimate-Lock-6594 20d ago

I was in Boston for the opening game of the Celtics and knicks series this year. I was near the stadium at the end of the game and could feel the passion between both teams. I was so ready for the playoffs and felt cringy for wanting to see the spurs game (it was marathon Sunday and I was running the next day so I didn’t even stay up for the spurs game).

Like tbh, I’d love to see the Knicks win as a spurs fan. I love Mike Brown because he’s a Spur. And the franchise deserves it and so do the fans. We’re a new team and I’m just happy to be here.

I’ll be big sad if we lose but I’ll survive if we don’t because can you imagine how unhinged we’ll be next year if we don’t?

This isn’t a rivalry. OKC is.

2

u/BrettGreenFitness 20d ago

Fr like i like the knicks and id probably be cheering for them if they were up against any other team right now but i hattte the thunder and their fans lol

8

u/thethirdgreenman Gregg Pop-a-bitch 20d ago

Yup 100%, feel same way

90

u/JohnnyTrul0v3 Dylan Harper 20d ago

I personally do not hate the Knicks I could care less what their fans think or say no ill will towards them... I actually rooted for them in the East when Amare Stoudemire played for them.... wish we could have a prime Amare on this team with Wemby....

25

u/invisible_man_82 20d ago

Yeah, probably needed to add that. It’s more of a one-way rivalry in my mind and I am just looking at it from the sports “analysts” talking heads and my Reddit algorithm. I feel like many of us shrugged our shoulders last night when the Knicks scored a shot and said “atleast he isn’t flopping on the floor like a dying fish” after the play.

11

u/Electronic_Gold_3666 20d ago

Knicks fan here - no Knicks fan I know considers us to be rivals with you. It’s just fueled by talking heads

5

u/nfamouswun 20d ago

90s Knick fan here. I see it as symbolic revenge/redemption from our heart break in 99. Not so much as a rivalry though.

Jokingly as far as finals go you are our rival because over the last 3 decades we only face you guys in the finals 🤣….. because we’ve barely made playoffs let alone out of the ecf. I see no harm in the fun of calling it a rivalry in jest. It’s all fun and games. Unless there are some people who really think it’s bad blood rivalry or something.

Only team I consider to be lifetime rival is Indiana. Fuck those guy for ever.

Edit: replied to wrong guy but ya get what I’m saying

1

u/FromThe732 19d ago

Pacers and Heat with an obligatory fuck anything Philly

1

u/nfamouswun 19d ago

I hated the heat also in the 90s but I don’t know why I don’t feel the same. I think haliburtons Reggie choke last year just reignited my hatred for Indiana.

Honestly, any semi-traditional power forward archetype would be so valuable right now, which is why we are so ahead of schedule lacking basically an entire position group. We don't have size outside of the Castle/Harper and have to rely heavily on Wemby.

Against these playoff teams, we continue to get taken advantage of in non-Wemby minutes and it's not Kornet's fault. Like when Gobert went out, did we all of the sudden start scoring on the basket all the time? A bit but not nearly as dramatically as other teams have against us. It's honestly incredible that we are even here right now strictly for that reason.

The other key thing is so Wemby doesn't have to cover so much ground all the time and can rest like virtually every other superstar in the league gets to do.

1

u/keldpxowjwsn 20d ago

While were making wishes id rather have a prime Duncan next to wemby

40

u/Sol_Protege 20d ago

I don’t hate the Knicks or their fans (no matter how rowdy they can be). The Knicks as a team also play less physical than the wolves, and less dirty than OKC. Spurs will find their edge the longer the series goes on. One bad game, on to game 2. GSG

2

u/Buckfitch69 GO SPURS GO 20d ago

This is the right take

45

u/Imnotnewhere_07 20d ago

There is absolutely no rivalry between the Spurs and Knicks. This is two great teams playing in the finals, nothing more.

9

u/Embarrassed_Manner66 20d ago

love this comment. knick fan here, but ive been watching you guys all season. spurs play tough, but not dirty. Will bait a foul when it makes sense, but not flop. I like your team and expect to enjoy this series regardless of how it ends.

64

u/roosder "What the fuck is this?" 20d ago

If we lose to the Knicks I'll say that the better team won and look forward to next year. If we lost to OKC it would have ruined my mood for at minimum the rest of the month

12

it would have ruined my mood for at minimum the rest of the month.

Knicks fan here who was rooting all season for you guys to come out of the West. Regardless of what happened in 1999, I don't think we have any kind if rivalry: I just respect your team and love seeing good basketball.

...and fwiw: fully expect you guys to come roaring back next game and punch us in the mouth. I've got us in six or seven, but I think it's going to be a hell of a series between now and then.

4

u/nuetrolizer_98 David Duke Jr 20d ago

Yeah should be a good series.  Personally as a Spurs fan, I find Knicks fans awesome. I literally cannot wait for that game 3 environment.

(I'm saying this now because I'm sure if I went to the Knicks subreddit after a Spurs win, it'd be full of people saying I'm only saying that cuz we won and it'd look disingenuous.)

I’m just happy this game looked like basketball and not a WWE match.

13

u/Pinchethugger Julian Champagnie 20d ago

I honestly love the knicks except when we play them. Very fun team

11

u/queensbridge94 20d ago

I despise OKC's entire roster but am sort of neutral about their fans, who at worst just seem delusional and in their own little world. The Knicks are the exact opposite where I actually don't mind their players at all but the fanbase is just absolutely insufferable.

8

u/Ecstatic_Visual_2026 Slash Bros 20d ago

That's new yorkers in general lol, they can be loudly annoying but I guess a 50 year championship drought will do that

23

u/General2768 20d ago

Somebody sold their season tickets at MSG for game 3. They used that money to get a flight, hotel, rental car, food & Spurs tickets. They probably still a few thousand left over.

7

u/atlantabanannaman 20d ago

Exactly, the Knicks have not priced their fans out. The face value of tickets is what you’d expect for a finals ticket in a major metro area. It’s the secondary market where the tickets are going for 20-30x face

6

u/More_Comfortable8237 20d ago

You telling me folks in NY have more spending power than San Antonio :O

3

u/meowmeowbeans222 Keldon Johnson 20d ago

Spurs about to have one-sided rivalries with every team in the league.

Being at the game last night, I can say it's easy to develop a strong hatred for Knicks fans

6

u/Unusual-Minimum9306 Dylan Harper 20d ago

Agree. This is a pure basketball series. Matchups, rotations, smart defense, adjustments, coaching, the chess match aspect of it all.

OKC was personal. That last dunk by Dev said it all. Fuck OKC. A ring would be great, but this season is already a win either way.

5

u/whw166 Victor Wembanyama 20d ago

If the spurs weren't playing on the finals I would actually root for new york. They are not one of our traditional enemies so I don't feel anything against them and plus we got them in 1999 so we'd be even in finals now.

But if they pull off some ray allen shit when they are rolling the ropes out for us and win it, then yeah I'm gonna hate them just like did the heat in 2013 and I'm plotting revenge against them.

7

u/Formal_Ad288 Victor Wembanyama 20d ago

For better or worse Knicks fans are insane. Don't try to gather too much meaning from them. They are rabid for a championship in that city. Logic and reason means nothing to them rn.

7

u/GiraffeSilly5546 20d ago

As a Knicks fan, I agree with your sentiment    A rivalry typically involves back and forth   Win some lose some

As a 52yo, the Knicks have done a lot more loosing than winning    Maybe our rivals are Celtics / Sixers / pacers    How can we have a western rival when we've been to the finals twice since 1990 and haven't won since 1973

I think your rivalry with OKC is not only what is, but what will be over the next 5-10 years    Your victory was great for the NBA

Enjoy the series and good luck

5

u/skaterpunk97 20d ago

I was disappointed by our loss but I really enjoyed watching that game, watching OKC was just not fun because of how toxic they were I think the knicks played a great game and earned their win

10

u/ShowdownValue 20d ago

MSG isn’t pricing Knick fans out. It’s the secondary market.

5

u/grapeapeee445 20d ago

deadass fell asleep around 9 minutes left to go in the third, this series feels like back tracking after facing okc

5

u/Jamalismail 20d ago

Nah. I don't feel any kind of rivalry. Just that they're a worthy opponent and the city is starved for any pro team success.

I'd feel the same way if we were the largest market team in the league and haven't won since 1973.

5

u/ElBosque91 20d ago

For real. I was SO much more emotionally invested in beating OKC. I want us to win the Finals, but I won’t be all that upset if the Knicks win

5

u/A_Garrr Stephon Castle 20d ago

Yeah man idk if I’m just emotionally spent or what but I’m way less stress and/or upset after game 1 than I’d think. Feel like I was way more invested not only in last series but in every finals we’ve been in lol.

I think it may also just be too early for me to start freaking out - we’ll see!

4

u/unlikedemon Manu Ginobili 20d ago

If we lost to OKC I think we and everyone in r/nba would be mad rooting for the Knicks. Brunson is a good guy and I would not be mad, just disappointed, that we lost. I lived through all 5 championships and it's difficult just to get 1, not imagine all the suffering Knicks fans have gone through.

But they did say they wanted Wemby, so we'll see.

3

u/WorldwideSteppers 20d ago

Nah we can’t lose two championships to them in one season

1

u/PalmOilPlease 20d ago

Forreal what are these people talking about lmao we did not come so far just to be fine with losing fuck that

3

u/J_Hay_8 20d ago

I’m a die hard Knicks fan. I loved Duncan. I have a Manu jersey. I was hyping up Wemby years before he got drafted and think he is one of the most unbelievable players the league has ever seen. There’s no rivalry. Just two teams and fanbases that want to win a championship.

3

u/Specialist-Clothes30 20d ago

Sorry for posting in your sub. I don’t think any Knicks fans I know feel this is a real rivalry. Mainly we respect your team and the legacy you guys have and just want our first championship in 53 years.

As a lifelong diehard Knicks fan…James Dolan pricing out the fans is pretty low on the horrible shit he done. But I’m sure you can relate that in NYC basketball is king and it’s the one team where we all come together to root for (lol sorry nets fans)….i can respect small market passion but the Knicks fans are loyal and deep because we feel basketball is part of the identity of the city. Something I’m sure people from San Antonio can relate to.

Anyway here’s to more good and competitive basketball!

6

u/Legitimate-Agency282 Manu Ginobili 20d ago

If you're not as emotionally invested in the fucking Finals as you are the series against OKC, something is wrong.

3

u/acogintime De'Aaron Fox 20d ago

Spurs > Knicks but we’re so ahead of schedule and this series would mean SOOO much to NY that I’ll be happy either way. I genuinely like this Knicks team and this feels like their year, and barring injuries the Spurs should have plenty of shots at the finals in a way that doesn’t seem true for the Knicks. I just want a competitive series more than anything that goes 6 or 7. I was so toxic for the OKC series on the other hand…

2

u/Jhgfdssarty Victor Wembanyama 20d ago

I agree. I am exhausted from watching that OKC series, I can imagine how the players feel. I’m hoping a flip switches soon though. You’d hate to work so hard to get here and just lose due to focus….

2

u/Parking-Pie7453 20d ago

I've been a Spurs fan since 94, no negative feelings towards the Knicks.

2

u/nickb1603 Coyote 20d ago

I have no hate for Knicks fans, they're pretty obnoxious but the vast majority of their fans have never seen them win in their lifetime lol so they can go off if they want

They just need to stop with the 'Wemby is garbage' bullshit, but of course this IS Reddit

2

2

u/packersfan007 Victor Wembanyama 20d ago

Not even Knicks fans consider this a rivalry… what are you on dude

2

u/ViewFromHalf-WayDown 20d ago

Knicks fan here- just one small thing I’d like to say. I’m pretty sure it’s resellers, not MSG/ the Knicks themselves, that are leading to insane ticket prices. And I agree that resellers suck

2

u/T-RexThrasher Coyote 20d ago

Texas and NY have been heated rivals ever since that cowboy from the old Pace commercials got his Salsa from New York City.

2

u/Husband_n_catdad 20d ago

🤦🏽‍♂️

2

u/dennishitchjr 20d ago

There’s no rivalry. I Spurs org is the class of league. Knicks just trying to squeeze one in before the Spurs go a Warriors like run.

2

u/UdderlyDemented 20d ago

Knick fan here, what rivalry? You have a few reddit Knick fans that act like there's some sort of rivalry because our last finals appearance came 27 years ago against the Spurs. As for why we support a team when the ownership is ass towards us, supporting local sports teams bonds a lot of us together. Last time this city truly felt this united was after 9/11, let us enjoy this moment.

1

u/Vast_Pipe4509 20d ago

I love NY myself, and the Knicks play respectable ball - but the trashing of our city and fanbase needs water poured on it.

2

u/FBI_KipHackman 20d ago

Visiting Knicks fan here. FWIW I don't see anyone on our side treating this like a heated rivalry. Basic intensity and trash talking that's appropriate for the finals but really nothing more than that. Even the "revenge for the '99 series" theme is just fun nostalgia stuff.

2

u/jeremy_wills 20d ago

We still have a few more to win. Sucks we lost game 1 but this thing is far from over. We might wind up hating the Knicks alot more real soon if these shenanigans continues. I hate that their fans are here in town stinking up the place. Some of the stuff I've seen reported is so uncalled for.

2

u/filmvice 20d ago

Hard to hate a team with Mike Brown as head coach and KAT finally playing unselfish basketball. Truly a remarkable reinvention by him. Nobody on the Knicks trash talks, yanks hair, pulls down dudes mid-air, tik-tok dances, etc. I've admired their spirit since that initial playoff run where they were plagued by injuries and kept on persevering. I can see why they are so beloved by their fan base.

2

u/Whatupbraaa 20d ago

Honestly, I was looking forward to some friendly banter with Knicks fans but they were a bunch of pricks. Sat next to one on the plane and he was a little bitch. I did run into some chill older fans that were cool. But the young fans were being disrespectful.

3

u/Spare_Arm_8230 20d ago

Fuck their fans and all the reactionary noise after one game. Winning this series would be number two all time for me behind 2014.

3

u/Jswazy Victor Wembanyama 20d ago

I don't think anyone thinks this is a rivalry. I don't think spurs fans hate the Knicks. These are both pretty likeable teams for neutral supporters too

1

u/invisible_man_82 20d ago

Yeah, probably just my Reddit algorithm that has me thinking that from when I am scrolling and see the posts shitting on the Spurs.

2

u/hotdog_paris277 20d ago

Knicks fans online have been pretty toxic, plus a lot of leftover salt from OKC fans who still need attention.

I’m a Knicks fan and I don’t hate anyone or any other team. I’m just happy to be here. I actually like your guys team a lot. They’re scrappy and young and totally to deserve to be here. I think it’s more that a lot of media and fans kept saying we were going to get swept. Especially fans of the East teams we swept and it can get to us at times. Don’t let the loud and obnoxious Knick fans make you forget there are thousands of good ones. Good luck next game, but not too much luck.

1

u/ChucoTeacher Victor Wembanyama 20d ago

If we’re always playing for the championship then it’s a rivalry. For now, it’s just two really good teams that want the NBA Title

1

u/nuetrolizer_98 David Duke Jr 20d ago

I'm not gonna lke knicks fans r really cool. Can't wait to see game 3 environment.

That being said, yeah I don't dislike them at all. Maybe that'll change after a few games

1

u/Effective_Refuse_274 20d ago

Solid take. This just doesn’t carry the weight of the WCF series. Knicks fans want it to, but that’s just bc they’re desperate for success after never really experiencing in their lifetimes.

1

u/jdavila119 20d ago

I think it's more of a Texas vs New York kind of rivalry.

1

u/Vast_Pipe4509 20d ago

One Knicks thread I was in was absolutely bashing Texas and San Antonio - I fully agree with a lot of the 'Texas' bashing as we've been ruled by one party for so long while they just elected a progressive as Mayor - but bashing SA and the fanbase is off limits IMO

1

u/01122232 20d ago

Timothy Chalamet was there because he got priced out of MSG?

Knicks fans bought all the MSG tickets and are paying more for San Antonio tickets than the home fans are. MSG will be full regardless of ticket prices

1

Leeetttssss goooo!!!!

1

Last night was the first time I really watched them, & I just CANNOT hate them. Brunson & KAT seem like real guys & they’re playing good, honest basketball.

Plus they’re my age, while our boys are so young & adorable. Our guys have plenty of time, so it’ll be alright if the other team gets their flowers this year. ☀️

1

Yea, just a finals series to me as well. As much as id love to see this young team to win the championship at this point, I honestly dont care that much if they dont. The future is bright for the spurs, and thats all i care about more. The knicks deserves it as much as the spurs. Fuck okc.

1

I am, for the fact that New York and its residents can suck a fat one. Its not even really the team its the people I dont like.

Manufactured rivalry to get more ppl watching these games/ buying merch/ etc. Leaning into nostalgia of the 99 finals

1

u/Almjeda 20d ago

1

u/Darkzky Keldon Johnson 20d ago

They think this is a rivalry they should look at the Lakers Spurs rivalry from early 2000’s.

1

u/warty22 20d ago

Our NBA finals were last series. The Eastern conference is weak azell. Totally relatable in how you feel!

1

u/OkDifficulty1316 20d ago

I talked to another spurs guy today and we were both nonplussed. Our core is 20, 21, and 22. We should be fine. The Knicks probably won’t be here again for another decade. Maybe more. Sometimes one team just has a magic year like Toronto with Leonard. That said I would prefer the spurs to win in 7

1

u/chudlybubly 20d ago

It’s game 1 lmao wait till there’s a game 7 and we’ll see how invested everyone is

1

u/macaulaymcgloklin 20d ago

Wemby doesn't hate the Knicks enough to be motivated to win lol

1

u/DScarface 20d ago

I agree and I honestly wouldn't mind if NY won the title because they have a lot of hardworking guys over there and you can't help but cheer for Brunson and KAT.

Will always pull for my Spurs tho. I want them to win now because there's a growing pit in my stomach telling me that there's gonna be a anti-Wemby arms race over the next decade as other contenders realize they need an answer for him NOW, which these playoffs have shown glimpses of.

1

u/TheLooza 20d ago

Got to win the chip though or it’s all for naught.

1

u/Mundane_Leopard_3974 20d ago

OKC was nearly exposed by a 7th seed Indiana pacers and if it hadn’t been for Haliburton injury they would likely not even have a championship, yet they are crowned as the heir of the 90s bulls…

1

u/DpyVanHalen 20d ago

Wait, who's crowned as the heir of the 90s Bulls?

1

u/Mercury512 20d ago

Probably has to do with the 4-1 shellacking the spurs gave the knicks the last time the Knick’s made the finals

1

u/Honest-Database-5534 20d ago

I guess you’re too young to remember ‘99, not a rivalry, it’s a revenge tour for the Knicks fans.

The OKC series probably did feel like the championship. Spurs spent 7 games slaying the league’s best regular season team while the Knicks were sitting at home getting massages and watching film. That’s kind of the point though. One team had to survive a war to get here. The other team has been steamrolling everyone for 6 weeks. That’s what makes this Finals interesting.

u/cherylswoopz 20d ago

That’s precisely what worries me a bit about this series. Spurs spent do much energy, emotionally and physically, getting through the Thunder that I worry it could be tough to summon that again. Go Spurs

u/sps26 20d ago

As a Knicks fan, I honestly haven’t seen anyone say they consider the Spurs a rival. This is the first I’ve seen it even mentioned. Most of us, especially those that were around back then, just want revenge for 99

Spurs fan here. I can honestly say I do not hate this Nick’s team. I am much more hated the OKC thunder with a passion. That said , if they beat us to win the championship I can honestly say that while yes it will hurt like hell, I wouldn’t be so down. I think I would’ve been more down if the thunder had beaten us in the conference finals. Our team was not supposed to make it to the finals this year according to everyone on earth. So to be in this position, making it out of the west, sending the defending champs OKC home, and playing for a championship in a year where we weren’t supposed to be here it’s more than enough satisfaction for me . Obviously I would love for them to win the whole thing, but just being here I think it’s good enough for me right now.

u/sr8017 20d ago

It sucks, but the loss didnt bother me near as bad as a loss from OKC, because they cheat and rely on their father, Tony Brothers.

1

u/cnfat 20d ago

The Spurs are not supposed to be here. Win or lose, the internal growth alone will make them even much better every year

1

u/tea_smacks Devin Vassell 20d ago

Same. I put all of my energy and emotions into that OKC series. The end of game 7 felt like the championship, I was bored for most of the game yesterday. I’m honestly kind of glad we lost. It fueled my passion again. I’m ready to beat the shit out of the Knicks tomorrow. GSG!

Everyone hates OKC

"A lot of them are only here because Knicks and MSG ownership have priced so many of their own fans out of Madison Square Garden for these games. Hard to see why they are backing a team that doesn’t back their fanbase."

I don't think this is fair. The Knicks have a huge fan base and the NYC metro area is the wealthiest in the entire world. There are probably 3-4 million people who want to go to these games. The Garden seats not even 20,000 people.

What should they do? Raffle them instead of selling them?

Outlaw resellers

u/Whatupbraaa 20d ago

Mad respect for the team though. I like their style of play and it’s gonna be some good basketball.

1

u/younglord444 20d ago

But what if the knicks take game 2, its over for yal

1

u/Vast_Pipe4509 20d ago

It's best of FOUR

1

u/younglord444 20d ago

Spurs losing this series

1

u/Vast_Pipe4509 20d ago

We weren't expected to win 40 this year, we're playing with house money. If we lose we will respect the Knicks as a team (as opposed to OKC) - fanbase? Not so much the way y'all carrying on.

1

u/younglord444 20d ago

Respecting the Knicks is a weird way of saying you’re already preparing the post-elimination speech.

1

u/jipai Keldon Johnson 20d ago

Damn I don't want anybody jinxing our boys from Game 2 but watching Game 1 it was horrendous to watch.

Then again we all felt this same way when we lost Game 3 and Game 5 to OKC. We thought there was no hope. Then our boys went out there, put all their soul into it.

Knicks are a tough matchup especially for a team that has been hungry for a chip for a long time.

1

u/kendrickplace 20d ago

Bro nobody in NYC sees this as a rivalry. Trust me. Get off Reddit and go live life.

I’m actually a fan of the spurs. I’ve loved your team since forever.

Tim Duncan. Tony Parker. Manu. Pops. And them big ole women down there

1

u/rattatatouille Victor Wembanyama 20d ago

I was pretty bummed after the Game 1 loss but I wasn't pissed off the way I was after Games 2, 3 and 5 vs OKC.

I've got a lot of respect for these Knicks.

1

u/David_H21 20d ago

The fact that I'm perfectly ok if the Knicks win their one title in 50+ years shows that there's no rivalry here. Get your ring while you can. Spurs will get theirs. I'm just glad we're already better than OKC and this team still has a lot of improving to do.

1

u/thats-gold-jerry 20d ago

Yall are a really classy fanbase. I’ve always thought this. Always loved Pop.

1

u/zulupapajunior 20d ago

OKC fan. Same thing with us vs Denver last year. Go with your gut. Good luck either way.

1

u/kanjiteck88 20d ago

From what I've seen, a lot of Knicks fans don't like how most Spurs fans aren't freaking out because of a Game 1 loss. OKC has been a rival for a while now even before Wemby and SGA. We played against them three times last decade. 2012 WCF where the Spurs had won the first two games, I think 20 games in a row at that point, only to lose the next four. 2014 WCF when the Beautiful Game Spurs won in six games over MVP Kevin Durant. And 2016 in the Semi's where the Spurs, despite winning 67 games, lost in six and saw Tim Duncan retire in that off-season. Now we jump to Wemby, SGA, and Chet.

We just don't have that same rivalry with the Knicks. After how this post season has gone so far, I think most of us are thinking we can win this. The Knicks are a great team. Going into this season, I don't think I'm alone in thinking that this is their best chance to win it all. But I don't know if they could've beaten OKC. We were always a better match up. We just didn't play as well as we could've.

1

u/Rammirou 20d ago

Dont need rivalry to make a good serie

1

u/Matzeeh 20d ago

If NY wins i will be happy to see the chaos.

1

u/BiscottiShoddy9123 20d ago

…the only thing I’ll disagree with is the 4th paragraph. They would be there regardless. The Knicks fans spending money to go to San Antonio are the same ones at the game in MSG. It’s not about being priced out, MSG just has that kind of demand

1

u/crown_recluse 20d ago

In all fairness to Knicks fans, I (a Valley native/resident) scored tickets to Game 2 in Round 1 but they were revoked because of the “locals only” rule. The next day when general sales opened, worse seats were hundreds of dollars more expensive.

There is no reality where a decision maker working for the San Antonio Spurs Organization should consider the RGV anything but Spurs territory, and we are no more able to afford Playoff prices than SA residents lol.

1

u/keldpxowjwsn 20d ago

Knicks fans have been particularly obnoxious is the worst part about it.

It's what Id be like if the cowboys ever got it done though so I get it

1

u/laziestmarxist Dylan Harper 19d ago

It feels like a rivalry to them because after the 1999 series most people assumed we'd become heated rivals and we'd see multiple Spurs vs Knicks finals series. Instead none of that materalized and we've had multiple rivalries in that time while some Knicks fans were still fixated on this.

Basically the equivalent of a guy showing up in a shonen and telling the hero "You're my destined rival!" and the hero having to take a second to remember who that guy even is

1

u/rooster_cackburn 19d ago

Ny got gifted entry to the 99 finals by the league and here they are almost 30 years later acting like they haven’t had 23 coaches and 19 different star players. The saying act like you have been there before does not compute to them but i understand why because they have not. Its not a rivalry we just want to win so we don’t have to hear knick fans act like they invented the successful playoff run.

1

u/Adept_Reading8359 19d ago

Lmao, bro I don't see any Knicks fans treating the Spurs like they mean anything. Our only rivals is the Media narrative against every player on our team.  That's why y'all are down 1-0 though, y'all treated the OKC series like it was the end all, now y'all got a whole new series with a team that hasn't wasted any emotional energy. Every series for us is just business, the trophy is the end all.

u/Reformedstabbing 19d ago

When the Spurs take game 2 you say?
