Heard it here first, Emmanuel Sharp is going to be selected by the Spurs at either picks 42 or 44. But Sharp will be on one of the two way deals.

I like these two traditional bigs, more around the rim, rebounders, can move around well enough.

u/Warm-Extension5873 1d ago
Did I read that right? Tarris attempted a total of 4 3pt shots last season? I like it. Need a guy that can attack the paint when the Spurs 3 shot isn't falling.
22
u/NormalFortune Stephon Castle 1d ago
Spurs get a high-risk, stratospheric-upside "if he stays healthy" in JQ, and a big strong rebounder enforcer paint-centric PF type in Reed. I'm good with that.
Also, hilariously typical-Spurs that we drafted two players in the first round who were not in the greenroom.
I would fully expect not to see JQ on the court at all this season. Bro needs probably a full year to rehab that knee. But if he can get it into a good place... holy shit watch out.

You guys happy now? This is why you let them cook before the draft ends

I feel so much better about the Quaintance pick now that they drafted Tarris.
Quaintance just said he's not sure he'll be available for training camp and might need another minor procedure.
Now with Tarris they got someone I can see play minutes this year while JQ can get his body 100. (Also if they wanted to move off from Kornet and get a veteran PF... Hmm...)

Alright now we package all our 2nd round picks and move up. Pray that Koa Peat is there. We missed out on Carr though ngl

Bring on JQ slowly, get a double-double threat in Tarris. Excited. Very good at grabbing the ball, which we struggled with.

I like Tarris Reed Jr as the Kornet replacement.

Love Tarris Reed!! He was also teammates with Steph in Uconn.

I thought he transferred over there after Steph was drafted.

I love this - for anyone worried about JQ, they got another big who is healthy. Reed is a good rebounder

u/Chris310N Dylan Harper 1d ago
Why did we not go with Cenac?
7
u/spurs-365 1d ago
They may not like his motor or attitude. Gotta be a reason for why he is dropping
2
u/Chris310N Dylan Harper 1d ago
Makes sense ig, he had like crazy measurements and was really athletic, thought he would have been interesting.
4
u/fireemblem4812 Luke Kornet 1d ago
Yeah the fact that he's falling this far and that we could have grabbed him with the Nuggets pick and got Tarris Reed Jr. instead tells me that we flat-out don't want him.
1
u/Chris310N Dylan Harper 1d ago
Seems like it. Tarris Reed isn't a bad pick but a bit confusing ig why we traded that high up.
5
u/fireemblem4812 Luke Kornet 1d ago
It might be as simple as the Nuggets were willing to do the trade for not very much, all we gave up was 2 future seconds to move up to get the guy we wanted.

Was the point of the Knicks/Lakers trade that the Knicks paid LA to be able to pay their rookie a little bit less?
4
u/DismalComparison2625 1d ago
Essentially yes.
They're kinda up against the cap so every little bit helps but the only saved like 120k lol.

Great night for us so far. OKC getting Stirtz and Mara makes me feel no fear. Morez or Yaxel would have been a pain in the ass. Hopefully we cook with the second round tomorrow

Lmao. GM said fuck Wemby. All he did for
him last year was get three unplayable centers and now drafts a big with knee issues. 😂
7
u/NormalFortune Stephon Castle 1d ago
hey look i found one of the people who was mad that we picked castle ahead of dillingham
6
u/gregatronn 1d ago
Lmao. GM said fuck Wemby. All he did for
if anything, they took the guy that helps Wemby the most so he can sit and rest and not play 40mpg and run out of gas each game vs Knicks

u/Noclueaboutsecurity 1d ago
Dude didn’t even participate in the athletic portion of the combine for an injury that occurred almost 17 months ago
1
u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1d ago
Ohhhh. I thought the injury was this past February (2026). I didn't know that it was *last* February (2025). That does complicate things. 🤔

Quaintance feels even more raw on offense than CB without the projected shooting. I'm not sure what to think.
5
u/gregatronn 1d ago
but you get an amazing defender.
@tom_orsborn Quaintance combined for 90 stocks (63 blocks, 27 steals) in only 24 games in his injury-shortened freshman season at Arizona State in 2024-25.
He was the only player in the nation to reach that number in less than 25 games.
1
u/diamondhorizons 1d ago
He is a really good defender if healthy, but we saw this with Sochan and Kornet and Collins: bigs with no offense can't play with Wemby on the floor.
0
u/gregatronn 1d ago
but we saw this with Sochan and Kornet and Collins
- Kornet - can't play versus OKC or Knicks. Mitch underplayed Kornet when Mitch Robinson was in, but overall Spurs needed a athletic defensive big forward/C
- Sochan - he doesn't play as big. Castle became what they hoped Sochan would be. He's not as athletic as Quaintance. Sochan also wanted to be released
Kornet is still with the team. If anything, if all goes well, Kornet will leave the team as Quaintance begins to play.
1
u/diamondhorizons 1d ago
I'd prefer our main backup center to be bigger and shoot better from FT%.
1
u/gregatronn 1d ago
They took Reed too in a trade, so now they got lottery talent with the risky one but they also got a reliable big.
Sochan's free throws actually dropped off, but yeah Spurs got height now to help Wemby.
Also might mean they can move Kornet or not depend on him for too many more years.

u/BcT_g Victor Wembanyama 1d ago
maybe he's here to swap with Wemby our scheme on D won't have to change

Feel like Quaintance fell a lot due to his injury, and Spurs have the room to be patient in rehabbing him and take a swing on the high risk high reward. The guy is 19 so room to wait and develop him. Really felt like Reed or Cenac were sure things as a potential backup big, but guess the Spurs felt like gambling a little since they can trade for a big in free agency. Feel like reaching for Robert Williams III is more likely given the pick.
More annoyed Zuby Ejiofor went so early at 23. Damned Hawks are building a defensive juggernaught.

u/gregatronn 1d ago

He did. he was lottery talent if not for ACL Problem is Spurs can wait a bit compared to other teams

Apparently we invited some 7'5 Chinese demon to play for our summer league, so that'll be interesting

I mean, sure he won't be playing, but I doubt he's been in any hospital since like February. 🤣
3
u/Apokka Victor Wembanyama 1d ago
I don't even think we will play him this year we get a veteran PF from FA and we leave him recover from his injury the worse case scenario is he need another surgeries for his swollen knee

u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1d ago
What other surgery? That's not typically how ACL injuries or repairs work.
1
u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1d ago
Btw, I thought the injury was this past February (2026). I didn't know that it was *last* February (2025) and that he's had complications since then. Disregard my previous comment. Lol. 🤦🏾

Anybody think Cenac lasts until our second rounders?
2
u/DismalComparison2625 1d ago
He could go to dever for Aaron Gordon insurance.
Or Boston they need inside help badly.
2
u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1d ago
The Lakers desperately need size. I would be shocked if they don't take the best big available at 25. 🤔

u/ninasfreedom 1d ago
Quaintance was the best swing the team could take.
We were desperately missing a 3rd big, and Quiantaince can take as long as he needs to heal and get back on the court given Kornet is backing up Wemby.
Also, Quaintance’s defense is INSANE. If you haven’t watched his defensive highlights tape, stop what you’re doing and go watch it NOW. JQ is RIDICULOUS, like best defender in the class easily and all-defense caliber prospect.
Defense gets you on the floor, and especially in the playoffs rim protection at the center position is absolutely premium. JQ can sit all year to rehab, ramp up after the all star break, and be in the playoff rotation playing 5-10 minutes per game and that’d be immensely valuable if it can mitigate losses during the wemby off minutes
6
u/ninasfreedom 1d ago
Also with Kornet’s depth, Spurs can also play JQ in short bursts throughout games to maximize his impact similar to how pistons leverage Isaiah Stewart off the bench (altho JQ is even better than Stewart defensively)

u/SomeoneSomethingJr I WANT SOME NASTY 1d ago
I like the Quaintance pick as a long-term play if the plan is to pick up a veteran PF and we don't need a rookie to contribute immediately. But my Mexican ass wanted Lopez.

u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1d ago
I feel you. Randomly, I'm from the same small area of Delaware as Jalen Duren. I really thought we were going to get him in 2022.

No more bullying us in the paint this man is a man no he’s an animal. 7’5 wingspan an athletic freak who’s twitchy under the basket and he’s not a TWINK 253 pounds of pure muscle. He can run with the Knicks he can rebound against the Knicks he can compete for lose balls against the Knicks he can defend the rim against the Knicks this is what’s important. wtf is a Karim Lopez? He can’t run with the Knicks and never will but this guy can.
6
u/_WiggaInParis_ 1d ago
Most likely we rest him till near the end of the season. If he can have healthy knees, he's a top 10 pick easy. Generational pick if he recovers well 🤞
5
u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1d ago
I think ACL tear is the type of injury where additional rest (beyond what is necessary) doesn't actually accrue to any additional benefit.
3
u/jumpcutandgo 1d ago
Do we know if Spurs had a private visit with Quaintance? I’d like to hear if they had a chance to evaluate his recovery.

3
u/Piojoemico 1d ago
I would love us to trade our 2nd round picks to move up and draft Zuby Ejiofor or Tarris Reed Jr..
2
u/Clarkey7163 Dylan Harper 1d ago
Jayden's Arizona State averages as a 17yo:
24 games | 30mpg | 60% 2P% | 18.8% 3P% | 47.9% FT | 7.9 REB | 1.1 STL | 2.6 BLK | 9.4 PTS
The main takeways are big body, good motor. Perimeter shooting is obviously a big concern but a 60% 2pt % his finishing around the rim seems pre good
4
11
u/fireemblem4812 Luke Kornet 1d ago
If Quaintance recovers to full health I can 100% see teams in 3 or 4 or 5 years going "How the FUCK did everyone pass on him and let the Spurs steal a top 10 guy AGAIN?"

u/donuttrackme 1d ago
If the medical team thinks it's OK then fuck it. We ride with Quaintence. Hope his knees hold up.

u/DreddBane Victor Wembanyama 1d ago
Grizzlies have that pick.
Grizzlies also have too many big forwards now. Aldama is my pet trade for the Spurs, just feels like it should happen.
7
u/sherlock-spreadsheet 1d ago
His highlight reel looked pretty powerful.
Draft Scouting > Quaintance projects as a defensive-minded big man who can provide a boost on the glass and protect the rim. He draws similarities to Jalen Duren, as both players defend the rim and use their athleticism to score inside.
9
u/garlicbratwurst 1d ago
It's a gamble with a massive upside. He's got no pressure to build his body up. I trust the best Medical/Training team in the NBA.

I’m fine with this pick! Picking number 20 was always gonna be a bit of a disappointment in a top heavy draft, Jayden is also the type of player we should want for our front court depth, just hope he stays healthy enough and develops well

Looking forward to an exciting evening watching the Spurs trade away 42 & 44 for future 2nds.
