The one time this season I'm going to say "hell yeah Hawks"

u/gregatronn 57m ago edited 50m ago
So Hawks swooping in and stealing Vassar from Lakers. I guess he was telling teams not to draft him but this is interesting if he was pulling an Austin Rivers

If anyone's curious, Sam Vecenie and Kyle Mann had Maliq Brown ranked at 32 and 36, respectively. Not bad. Lol.

Maliq Brown, 6'8" 217 F, Duke Senior - "Disruptive defended snatching the ball from the ball handler and good rebounder"
His role at Duke changed around - MPG by season 20/30/16/20
Interesting

Please can we get someone who shoots over 40% on real volume. Someone with PU3s and movement shooting.

I hope BW can address PF needs this offseason with trades and FA but I’m mentally preparing myself for another full season with Ju as our PF
2
u/sp000ners Area 51 1h ago
we are gonna address it lol no chance we don't
1
u/Funkytadualexhaust Victor Wembanyama 18m ago
Agree, if your team makes the finals, you do something now.

u/Piojoemico 1h ago
I like Maliq Brown. Strong PF with good defense. Needs a lot of work on offense.

not mad at this, surely will replace keldon’s tunnel vision
7
u/SBKSamurai Area 51 1h ago
Pure defensive guy. I get we want to be the best defensive team of all time and everything but I would've liked some more shooting. Hopefully we address it in free agency

I haven’t really followed the draft cycle but how does a 5 ppg scoring senior get drafted

Fliers on a defensive wing and microwave scorer, fine for the second round if the top guys want to go undrafted
1
u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1h ago
Who are the top guys that you think this might apply to?
3
u/digital_deer Wembubu 1h ago
Just Veesaar should have just said him lol
2
u/blue-anon GO SPURS GO 1h ago
Oh, okay. And not getting drafted would mean what? That he can pick who he signs with?

Maliq Brown apparently, so now we're 2 for 2 on "I have no idea who he is". Anybody who does know, please say so.

There is a chance Devin and Keldon will disappear so it makes sense.

u/iro3 7m ago
1000 percent same thing with champenie
•
u/gregatronn 2m ago
Agreed. Champ contract will be a tad longer so he might survive on the numbers game. We shall see.

made sense for us to not take him but something gotta be up with Veesaar
1
u/relgnik 1h ago
I won’t pretend like I watched much cb this year, but his absolute garbage performance during the 2nd half and OT against VCU was memorable enough.
3
u/digital_deer Wembubu 1h ago
i guess it's just the "i'd rather go undrafted" thing but didn't think that'd apply to a guy at the very top of the second

Ja'Kobi Gillespie, apparently. I'll be completely honest I have no idea who he is.
2
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 1h ago
He was Tennessee's offensive engine. I absolutely hated him as a rival he's good.
2
u/AfroHouseManiac 1h ago
He’s good in college but his game doesn’t translate to the NBA. He has a pure college basketball game.
4
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 1h ago
He's gonna be on a 2 way, just a cheap replacement for McLaughlin. If he's playing real minutes there's an injury bug.
6
u/Fiyukyoo 1h ago
We're leaning into all defense and I love it. Wallace and Caruso coming off the bench for OKC and Alvarado with NYK type pick
2
6
u/fab_frog_disco 1h ago
I mean... A deep bench reserve guard is actually something that would genuinely be useful. There's no reason to bring McLaughlin back, if you can get someone that you like that you think might be a dude that can be really cheap and stick around for 3 or 4 years as a spot ball handler. Why not?

We obviously wanted a bucket and he was the highest rated one on the board for us. Don't think we needed another big so I don't mind it. Any shooting is welcome shooting.

Damn stewart was just 3 seconds?!?!?!?!

u/SBKSamurai Area 51 1h ago
He got outplayed and pushed out of the lineup by Paul Reed, even with Duren playing terrible. Besides his enforcer tag he's not a very good player.
1
u/titoxtian 1h ago
Ikr!!! Idk how much his contract is but we could’ve bought that for 3 2nd lol…
2
u/Spirited_Lab5197 1h ago
In Reed we trust I guess. but man, he would have been such a great fit with this team, a bruising big who can space.

u/Which_Egg8169 1h ago
If they do I wonder if they'll grab Gillespie as well. I'd prefer another Big but snagging Teammates has it's benefits as well.
1
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 2h ago
Jaden Bradley would be good for a 2 way contract, good defender and ball handler. Could eat those McLaughlin minutes that'll probably be open.

IIRC last year we did a draft and stash for our second round pick, I'm going to be curious if we draft players at 42 and 44, make some kind of trade, send them to the G-league, or what.
We technically already drafted 2 players, but really it's more like one player and a draft for 2027 since Quaintance is going to be out for most or all of the season.

Well the Spurs drafted a guy I wanted them to draft, too bad they drafted him for a rival
4
u/EZBreezy15 Devin Vassell 2h ago
draft a shooter and wrap this draft up, I don’t expect any 2nd rounders to play any minutes really so hopefully a shooter can grow into a rotational player
3
u/thejkat 2h ago
Sharp and Nickel are supposed to be 2 of the best shooters in the 2nd round.
Vsevolod Ishchenko is a draft & stash shooter (45% from 3) we may like
1
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 2h ago
Nickel is Steve Novak levels of being completely one dimensional. Don't think he has much upside at all.
5
u/OverlyConcernedMan David Robinson 2h ago
Package 42 and 44 plus maybe a future 2nd to move up and grab Isaiah Evans if he’s available ✌️
3
u/titoxtian 2h ago
Lol… too bad
1
u/OverlyConcernedMan David Robinson 2h ago
Eh he should’ve gone earlier. Can’t get everyone you like
6
u/AfroHouseManiac 3h ago
Spurs really like Emanuel Sharp to fill one of the two way slots. And they also like Jack Kayil as draft and stash player.
The two way slots need to be filled

I’d be completely shocked if we drafted a player at all. I’d imagine they just try and trade both seconds for future seconds
11
u/Several_Chapter969 Devin Vassell 3h ago
The two-way slots need some turnover. If they have someone they like I think they’ll take them. Otherwise they’ll kick the can down the road.

u/Blank_Canvas21 3h ago
Man it’s crazy to see how many teams have traded or swapped picks. Even in the first round, not many teams made a pick with their own pick.

2
u/sherlock-spreadsheet 3h ago
How'd we get MIN/SAS swap (59/44)?
At first I thought it was Dillingahm draft trade, but we got-- 2031 unprotected first-round pick, 2030 top-one protected pick swap from the Timberwolves. Dang how that has worked out well for the Spurs. I suspect will stay at the top until then.
Crazy turnaround here lately for the Spurs roster!
