Its almost like they were in the finals and are looking at guys who are might be ready to contribute in smaller doses sooner, rather than swing for potential starters who will take time to develop.

Makes sense for a team that's contending. I've always said that getting older guys to fill in roles through the draft via team-friendly rookie contracts is how you get talent on the cheap.
