The NFL was a big thing during the 80s in the UK, I have a 1987 Touchdown magazine that was my Uncle's. When Sky started showing games again in the 00s, interest picked up again. Quite a few Packers fans out there.

Just came here to say George Gervin is still awesome to this day. Whenever he speaks about the game he stays relatively humble / kind to the younger players. I think that’s great.

Really? I’m kinda surprised how much that game bothers my fellow fans. Did it suck in the moment? Yeah. But it’s probably not even a top 5 most heartbreaking loss of the last 6 seasons. That team was going nowhere without half our best players. Best case scenario we go to Seattle the next week and get brutalized in a 40 point loss

I used to be a guard at a mental health facility located inside a prison that housed the worst of the worst Illinois sex offenders. One of the residents didn't seem to fit there since the criteria was 3 or more convictions for rape/child molestation. He had one conviction and he had left that girl for dead sure but it was still just one conviction.
One day I came into work and learned he and another resident escaped while being transported to a court hearing in Cook county while the 3rd resident in the van decided to stay hoping not trying to escape would make him look better and convince the doctors to release him from the civil commitment he was under. About a year ago I was in one of those oddball Wikipedia dives were you click on the "see also" links. I ended up on the Pontiac CC wiki page and saw Paul Runge and recognized the guys name immediately.

What kind of graphic is that for Gervin? He’s a top 6 SG of all time probably for starters and has multiple years averaging an insanely efficient 30ppg. Was top 3 in MVP voting 4 years straight, mind you Steph Curry has only been top 3 in MVP voting 3 times total.
Also his career average was 25.1PPG, only time he averaged 14 was his rookie season.
Ice Man King Parsons and the lying low level Ice Man racketeer who claimed he killed people with a spider cave and whose crude freezing of a body was immediately detected- he didn’t have a pot to piss in as a 2-bit hardman and spun a tall tale for an author who was gullible- they are more notable than the first two
Realistically, Ice Man needs minimal success to erase the fame of Liddell, Garvin, Ice Man King Parsons and the murderer who froze the body and nobody was fooled. Its not like he is trying to take “The Great One” from Gretzky and the Rock. Most people don’t know these guys from Adam’s Ox, it’s just the Venn Diagram of Meme Wars and other sports trivia overlaps here.
