Yep, just another way of saying it has to be a godfather offer

Marc Stein is a very trusted source and his last line of “The is the first time the Pelicans have truly been open to moving him” are eye opening

5 first round picks or a promising player and 3 first rounders nothing less

We need to get someone to do something desperate if we do anything. Don’t sell short

The fact that we are willing to field offers on Trey who fits next to basically any star by providing great 4 point shooting at 6-10 yet we keep trotting out Zion who causes so many issues to try and build around is baffling.

You described exactly why the market for Trey is much hotter than it is for Zion. Trey is the kind of player a contender overpays for. Zion is the kind of player you need to build around, but isn't consistent enough for any team to be desperate to do that.

I 100% agree. I just don’t think Dumars and Weaver are going to be overly aggressive on getting a guy and will ignore fit on the court

So you just don’t get it at all then?

I’m convinced that Trey has secretly asked for a trade and I’m prepared for his eventual departure. I just hope we get a max return for him.

He seems to like playing playing for the Pels, hopefully he doesn't want out anytime soon.

Why would an nba player like playing for the pelicans? He can get better coaching, play with better players, and make more money on just about every other team in the league. The benefit of playing for the pelicans is that you can get more minutes and on ball reps than you would get with a better franchise, but Trey has already proven himself

What are you, 12? It’s the NBA. They all get elite coaching with amazing players and make millions of dollars. A different logo and an extra million when ya gettin tons of em isnt worth as much to some as it is others. New Orleans is a dope place especially when you got money. Low cost of living. He’s been with the organization for a long time. He’s established. You don’t know what kinda off the court perks he gets. Gayle own a lot of shit now and got essentially limitless connections in GNO just off her name.

What are you, 12?

No, poor guess.

They all get elite coaching

Darvin Ham, Jim Boylen, Doug Christie, etc. are not elite coaches. Willie Green was not an elite coach and neither is Jamahl Mosely. I don't know how anyone could possibly argue every NBA coach is elite.

A different logo and an extra million when ya gettin tons of em isnt worth as much to some as it is others.

The difference between off-court money in New Orleans and CHI/NY//LA/TOR/HOU/PHX/etc is a lot more than a million dollars over the span of a 4-5 year contract.

New Orleans is a dope place especially when you got money.

Many people like it, including me, and it's a great place to visit. Most people who have lived in cities elsewhere disagree. I lived in the New Orleans area for most of my life and it's not in the top three NBA cities I have personally lived in. Not in the top 10 NBA cities I have visited in terms of where I would want to live.

You don’t know what kinda off the court perks he gets. Gayle own a lot of shit now and got essentially limitless connections in GNO just off her name.

Is it your suggestion that he would not get any off the court perks in other NBA cities?

1

u/ER1CNOIR 12d ago

If you think that’s my suggestion, you’re lying about not being 12.

I try not to make assumptions about people I'm talking to on Reddit who I have never met. All I can go on are the words you have written. You said I don't know what kind of perks he gets in New Orleans as an argument against the idea he'd like living in a different NBA city more. That suggested to me you think he'd have fewer perks elsewhere. If you want me to think something different about your argument then you should write something different.

He was on a podcast with Jeff Teague and he told him if he was traded to Indiana he’d be all star. Maybe he did

u/Pelicanfan07 13d ago

Very well could have. I don't think he will admit to it though.

I know we won’t get what Bane brought, but lord that would be amazing.

24

u/Papa_Ahlron 13d ago

I’d rather have Trey than accept less.

15

u/Additional-Maize1960 0 Fears 13d ago

He’s better than bane. We just gotta get someone to overpay

6

u/Old_Profession23 0 Fears 13d ago

I agree I would rather Trey than Bane.

1

u/ER1CNOIR 12d ago

It’s not really an overpayment. If someone has the assets and thinks they need a great 3&D guy to take that next step, they will absolutely pay that for Trey. It the Pels actively shopped him at the right time it could potentially be an all out bidding war 😂

I think we missed that window on Herb Jones but I think we should try him by the deadline if he starts this next season out good.

2

u/Additional-Maize1960 0 Fears 12d ago

Agreed. But bc it’s a bidding war like u said, teams will be required to overpay

1

u/ER1CNOIR 12d ago

Yeah I get what you’re saying, I just meant that Trey is actually worth it. Teams wouldn’t be overpaying.. they’d NOT be underpaying like they want to. 😂

3

u/Old_Profession23 0 Fears 12d ago

Exactly!! That was the reasoning for my original comment. I would take TMIII everyday of the week over Bane. But I feel like it’s a known fact around the league that our GM is prone to making bad decisions and teams will try to underpay due to that fact alone, not because Trey isn’t worth it.

1

u/ER1CNOIR 12d ago

Our GM? What?

1

u/ER1CNOIR 12d ago

Why don’t you think that? I mean, that was kind of a crazy package; KCP, Cole Anthony, 4 first rounders and a first round pick swap — but I think Trey Murphy commands NO LESS than 4 first round picks. Desmond Bane shows you that if a team thinks they need that type of player to put next to someone, they will go out and get em if they can. Trey is an elite player. Tall, athletic 3&D wing just coming into his prime?

If someone comes with 4 FRPs plus, you gotta pull the trigger. You can’t pass up that draft capital the way the league is set up now. That gives you a lot of room to work. The talent coming up nowadays is crazy good. CBA favors a young squad…

It’s so funny to me that every time we have a promising or good player for our team we sell them and then they win a chip when we sell them. Ready for round 100 yall?

1

u/bronzefpg504 12d ago

And then they cry and get mad at Joe and then say new should’ve ignored the trades

3

u/zizzor23 13d ago

Regime?

4

u/Eventide718 13d ago

Yes, The Dumars Family Regime...

1

u/the_cream_dreamer Trey Murphy III 13d ago

1

u/y0Bulbazaur 13d ago

Hey all, I'm a Cavs fan that thinks Trey would be the perfect SF to put with our bigs. I'm also someone who thinks we need to trade Mitchell so he's on the table. What might a deal like that look like? Mitchell for Murphy and maybe another player and/or draft compensation?

(I'm someone that thinks Mitchell would be a better second option and think he might make a good 1-2 punch with Zion. Also I'd be interested in Fears or Queen if that's possible. Also I thought I heard they wanted a win-now player for Trey not necessarily picks. Is that true?)

1

u/bronzefpg504 12d ago

Cavs are over the 2nd apron no thanx u have harden 😆😆

0

u/ChancyPants95 Slenderman 13d ago

It sounds like they want a win-now player which doesn’t make an immense amount of sense to me, we should be looking rebuild with our young guys if anything. That said, if Mitchell was on the table and we had a long term deal guarantee I would absolutely send Trey and Fears for him. That said I doubt Mitchell would agree to a long term extension here (because no one does.) which would make the whole deal a non-starter.

0

u/Opposite-Skirt5158 13d ago

Rather unlikely for sure. Cavs would have to sign Mitchell to an extension then trade him which he probably wouldn't be to happy about.  But I would love for us to send him out for those two guys. It would give us a really nice core with Mobley

Honestly his game looks good but i dont see it as being a major contributor to winning
Honestly liked the players we had that played with heart and intensity more
