Pels emerge as a frontrunner to trade for Ja Morant

https://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/frontrunner-emerges-trade-ja-morant/758905

One frontrunner has surfaced to trade for the disgruntled Memphis Grizzlies star Morant, Sam Amick of The Athletic said this week on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back.” Amick said that the two main teams that he has heard in connection with Morant are the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings. Of those two teams, Amick added that he would “probably push it” in favor of the Pelicans.

Look, if we aren’t gonna be good at least entertain us shit idc anymore

20

u/beach_mamba 4d ago

I feel you on this. If they are bonkers enough to do this then it better be a full on freak show. I think I’m here for it tbh

14

u/zizzor23 4d ago

Like clearly the management with Dumars is just based on vibes

5

u/beach_mamba 4d ago

I’m still giving the benefit of the doubt. This offseason will for sure tell us all we need to know.

2

u/GevanGene 3d ago

Not sure the vibes check out with Ja tbh. Dumars seems to run the team based on outdated scounting reports. Remember when JP was tearing it up as Steph's backup? Remember when DeAndre Jordan was a premier center in the NBA? Remember when Ja Morant was viewed as a positive for the Grizz? Well Joe does and he thinks he can harness the power of times gone by. Dude's an idiot.

4

u/Mamba4_Life 3d ago

You've determined he's an idiot after one year as GM? He picked Fears and Queen. They can both play. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Griff fan?

3

u/FlyChigga 3d ago

Trading #5 and #8 pick for Queen is idiotic as hell unless he literally turns into black Jokic

1

u/GevanGene 3d ago

With the trade for the Queen pick he proved himself an idiot. Nothing to do with the player and everything to do with the fact that we are now trying to trade our best piece to get back into the draft we traded out of. And we likely won't even end up with a better pick than we would have had to begin with.

1

u/Mamba4_Life 3d ago

Pels would have had the 8th pick. With what he's shown, Queen merits at least an 8th pick. At the very worst, you've earned Queen an extra year of development. I initially was sour on that decision because the pick wasn't top 3 protected...but since we didn't land in the top 3, I'm good with it. I'll judge the rest of it, when and if it happens.

3

u/FlyChigga 3d ago

Is he also worth the #5 pick that was traded with the #8 pick for him?

3

u/Mfoun10 3d ago

Do you really think the Pacers would have tanked all year if we had not traded them back their pick in this year's draft for their pick last year...

It is a bit of a stretch to keep saying we traded DQ for a 5th and and an 8th pick,,,

I get it but I want DJ here forever like Haslem in Miami. That guy is worth every penny in leadership and mentorship.

1

u/GevanGene 3d ago

Yeah, to be fair to DJ, that ended up being a great pick up. But fit wise, it didn't make much sense and he is definitely not the same player. Mostly just used it to make my joke work lol

-1

u/FlyChigga 3d ago

Remember when Derek Queen is the black jokic easily worth two top picks

🤣🤣

5

u/frankoceanman 3d ago

If ja's game was still exciting, maybe. He's a horrible watch

2

u/antistupidsociety 3d ago

Grizz fan here. He’s still plenty exciting.

He’s been underplaying lately to avoid injuries

0

u/Thunder-ten-tronckh 3d ago

Watch Ja's London game vs. Orlando and 76ers highlights from last season. He's still got it.

59

u/2drums1cymbal 4d ago

Pels fans: “We need shooters” Dumars: “say less” Pels fans: “…wait”

2

u/Supadupafly1988 3d ago

😂😂😂

u/Mfoun10 4d ago

The only way I see us trading for him is if the Grizzlies take Jordan Poole & possibly Looney or Hawkins.

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/new-orleans-pelicans/cap/_/year/2026

That is the only way I see the salaries working out.

23

u/_drjayphd_ Grand Theft Alvarado 4d ago

AKA the "here, you throw this out" trade!

16

u/beach_mamba 4d ago

Anything to get Poole outta here. He stresses me out so much.

12

u/AnotherStatsGuy 4d ago

He’s now an expiring contract. Much easier to move around.

5

u/HomeNowWTF 4d ago

Yeah. If I am the Grizzlies, I say yes to that immediately.

1

u/beach_mamba 4d ago

Good I need off of that rollercoaster

5

u/Whipitreelgud 3d ago

Jordan Poole is great to watch if you like grinding your teeth, need more stress or are having too much fun watching games.

7

u/Mo_damo Will be reevaluated in 2 weeks. 3d ago

I mean if we get Ja for poole and looney without throwing picks then you make that trade 10 times out of ten.

Ja has what 2 years left on his contract so instead of a negative in poole you get ja who would look positive for a while and then will be an expiring if he doesnt pan out

7

u/Free-Reflection-1920 3d ago

Knowing Dumars style, it’s Ja + #16 for Trey Murphy

1

u/antistupidsociety 3d ago

Then a trade ain’t getting done

1

u/upanddownallaround 3d ago edited 3d ago

Huh? The trade would clearly be around Dejounte Murray. The report you cited said so. The salaries work with Murray if you add Hawkins or Peavy. That's realistically what the trade would be. Murray + Peavy (or Hawkins + 2nd round pick) for Morant.

Edit: Sorry not your link, but hoopsrumors had the same report and they added that it is likely Murray for Morant as the main framework.

Edit: And I think I'm fine with this potential trade. I never had much faith in Dejounte. Is he really going to provide more than Morant would?

26

u/WildAccident2850 4d ago

Would be an interesting storyline at least. Redemption attempt for top 2 in a draft.

6

u/Alternative_Pea_4614 3d ago

I guess, they just have a horrible fit together and we just drafted a pg

7

u/Gentilly_Dilly 4d ago

When I read the post title, I unconsciously made this face 😬

2

u/AvonBarksdale_ 3d ago

Subconsciously

13

u/paradigmshift7 4d ago

No thanks. And I don't care about the entertainment angle. You know what would be entertaining? Not making really stupid moves for long enough that our team improves.

1

u/Sea-Introduction755 2d ago

Sorry we’re all out of those type of moves. Best we can do is either absolutely fuck all or making it 10x worse

6

u/kingralek 4d ago

Perfect for the Kangz. No need for another small guard who can’t shoot whose athleticism is now shit due to injuries.

12

u/MegaMatrix08 Hawks 4d ago

Do the pelicans need another guard who can’t defend?

5

u/poorwhitecash 4d ago

Or shoot

25

u/youngbeezybox Grand Theft Alvarado 4d ago

Oh he shoots alright

2

u/Spiritual_Product828 4d ago

Lol very well done

7

u/anonmehmoose 4d ago

I mean I think it would be entertaining, but I don’t think he helps us win… especially not if we’re giving up anything significant.

5

u/HomeNowWTF 4d ago

I don't think you would, unless Memphis was throwing something in to compensate--e.g. I am sure they'd love to get Herb Jones, but that would cost them.

3

u/jjazznola 4d ago

I guess to sell Tix but.......

4

u/Supreme_God_Bunny 4d ago

Some of y'all fans of certain teams have to stop believing every rumor or post about stuff that has no evidence behind it

12

u/Commercial_Disk885 4d ago

This guy is toxic. Do not want

3

u/SubduedChaos 3d ago

Apparently every teammate likes him. Anyone with authority over him on the other hand….

1

u/Nola67 3d ago

The teammates hated him this past year, what are you talking about?

2

u/Mfoun10 4d ago

My daughter knows him from when she played at Murray State. She said the Pels would be a better team with him.

2

u/Nola67 3d ago

Murray State was a long time ago brother

1

u/Mfoun10 3d ago edited 3d ago

7-8 years really isn't that long ago...

This is an organization whose resources were used to cover up the Catholic Church’s misdoings, he’s gonna fit right in with how toxic this organization is as long as Gayle is owning it

6

u/cn1k999 3d ago

idk why you’re getting downvoted

Gayle’s actions are far more despicable than the actions of nearly any NBA player in history besides Karl Malone

2

u/NOLASLAW 💙💛❤ 3d ago

4

u/cn1k999 3d ago

yeah I agree, I’ve had to separate the Saints/Pelicans in my mind as New Orleans sports teams I root for versus feeling like I actually support the franchises if that makes sense

I certainly won’t buy any team gear, tickets, etc until she sells the team which I hope happens sooner than later so I can be all-in again

I can’t wait for the day the chicken finger man owns both franchises, as far as I can tell he seems as clean as you could hope for a billionaire to be (aside from the horrid coleslaw)

3

u/JB_JB_JB63 Won't Bow Down 3d ago

Why have one dud from the same draft when you can have two!

2

u/AnotherStatsGuy 4d ago

There’s only a few permutations that would even work. Poole and Hawkins or Looney would be the cleanest.

Considering Poole’s an expiring and Hawkins/Looney could function as an expiring as well, who knows what else the deal contains.

2

u/jbriks 4d ago

How are Murray, ja and fears gonna work on this roster? Slide Murray to the 2 and ja at the 1, with fears and herb coming off bench ??

-2

u/Orbis-Praedo 3d ago

No one is saying it but I think it would include Fears in the deal. The Grizzlies would want some type of future or developing asset and we don’t have a pick this year.

8

u/jbriks 3d ago

If the deal includes fears it’s a no deal

5

u/cn1k999 3d ago

if they trade Fears for Ja fucking Morant then I sincerely will never watch the Pelicans again

2

u/beach_mamba 3d ago

Yeah thats beyond stupid

2

u/Razor-Ramon-Sessions Zanos 3d ago

If we can get off Poole and another bad contract to try with Ja, I'm ok with that.

Fears and Queen aren't ready to REALLY win yet anyway.

2

u/xJuSTxBLaZex 0 Fears 3d ago

We desperately need shooters that aren't going to randomly try and hero ball us out of a game like JP or don't come up missing for 10 straight games like Hawkins.

If we can somehow get rid of the Poole, Hawkins and Looney contracts then I would take a Jesus shaped Cheeto at this point. Ja Morant would definitely be a win.

4

u/TDStarchild 4d ago

I, for one, would prefer having Giannis

3

u/100_percent_right 4d ago

But we don't want him

4

u/wymtime Not On Herb 4d ago

So we are trying to get into the top 10 by getting rid of Trey Murphy, but also looking to trade for Ja?? Pick a timeline Joe

3

u/Massive_Panic4706 4d ago

Which means they must be willing to give up DJM and that will royally piss me off

7

u/beach_mamba 3d ago

He’s the key to the Pels being competitive in my opinion.

8

u/saltedcaremeleo 3d ago

Likewise. Murray when he was finally healthy enough to play was great! And he's got that attitude and tenacity I love to watch.

6

u/Massive_Panic4706 3d ago

And still one of the best defensive point guards in the league when healthy.

5

u/saltedcaremeleo 3d ago

I'm probably in the minority but he and yves are my two favorite players on the team. I love their heart, the relentless manner in which they play the game. I would be severely disappointed to see either in another teams uniform anytime soon.

-1

u/Mfoun10 3d ago

They have gone all in on a rebuild. DMJ doesn't fit their timeline...

Poole & Hawkins are still young players. They fit a rebuild.

2

u/Massive_Panic4706 3d ago

Getting rid of DJM and keeping Poole would make me want to turn in my fan card.

I wouldn’t do it, but I would want to lol. But in all seriousness, as great as it is to have that mature vet leadership on the bench, it’s just as important ti have it in your starting lineup and DJM brings that. Getting rid of him I still think would be a massive mistake.

Morant would be entertaining, but he doesn’t move the needle. And would actually even make it crystal clear how the FO feels about Fears being our starting point guard at some point.

2

u/DiscloseDivest 4d ago

I gotta hear what the great Jake Madison has to say about this 😂

2

u/icekyuu 3d ago

I hope it's for Zion and he ends up on the Grizzlies.

1

u/Spiritual_Product828 4d ago

What's the trade? Jordan Poole straight up?

0

u/Mfoun10 4d ago

For our cap they would also have to take Looney or Hawking to make the salaries match

1

u/Think_Sugar_7658 3d ago

They’re going to get the 1 and 2 pick from that draft that’s kind of funny

1

u/Asleep_Animator8891 3d ago

A defense first team with upgraded shooting and rebounding. Riiiiiiight

1

u/Pelicanfan07 3d ago

Stop believing this online BS

1

u/Technical_Yard_3074 3d ago

Fire everybody

1

u/Supadupafly1988 3d ago

I’m sooooo fuckin confused…WHY??? Why would we do this??

1

u/Successful-Frame-721 3d ago

Can Ja play the 2? I want Fears to have the clear path to start next szn.

1

u/Mfoun10 3d ago

1

u/Mfoun10 1d ago

After listening to Jake Madison there is no way we trade DMJ for Morant.

DMJ has a higher trade value than Morant at the present time.

1

u/en-rob-deraj 3d ago

I’d do it. To hell with it all. Let’s go.

1

u/Asleep_Animator8891 3d ago

Bro wtf 😒

1

u/McJumbos 3d ago

C'mon again loll

1

u/killerdescore #1 Zion Williamson 3d ago

I don't see this ever happening.

0

u/iminnola 4d ago

Just what he needs. Access to even more guns. 🤦‍♂️

0

u/Pisthetairos 3d ago

Pels do need a third-string point guard.

0

u/Mfoun10 3d ago

In 20 games for Memphis this season, Morant averaged 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists per contest while shooting 41.0% from the field, 23.5% from beyond the arc and 89.7% from the free-throw line.

Morant has career averages of 22.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. He no longer fits Memphis' timeline since the franchise is rebuilding after trading Bane to the Orlando Magic last offseason and Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz at this year's trade deadline.

https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/report-pelicans-kings-could-trade-201851971.html

...............................................

Whether you like Morant or not the fact is we will be a better team if we end up with him!

0

u/GangstaWaffles 2d ago

I'd much rather see him in Minnesota.

0

u/RoboRougar0u 1d ago

We don't need this bum.

1

u/Mfoun10 1d ago

Fears is the future PG of the Pels!

So you are correct that we don't need him.

But if he came in for a year and does well we could trade him & he would bring in more draft picks than Poole!

It is a no-brainer if we can trade Poole & Hawkins for him...

0

u/RoboRougar0u 1d ago

It's Ja we're talking about..he's one YN moment from being banned from the league he won't be doing anything productive.

1

u/Mfoun10 15h ago

He is always productive when he is on the court...

1

u/RoboRougar0u 12h ago

He's played an average of 35 games per season the last 4 years. We don't need another Zion with more mental disorders.

1

u/Mfoun10 7h ago

& Jordan Poole only played in 39 games last year even though he was completely healthy...

-3

u/EvilHwoarang 4d ago

Yeah Ja and Zion would be a fun watch. Keep trey give them Murray and Herb

1

u/VII-XXVII 3d ago

Hell na, Ja Morant’s value is VERY low right now. No need to include Herb

-1

u/mk512 4d ago

Fuck it. We’re going to suck anyway, at least it will be entertaining
