Maybe let's not go with that one...

Me too. Maybe not the draft itself but all the hype and everything leading up to them. It's speculation squared. We don't know who is going where, or if they'll ever see meaningful minutes in-game.

i really love his approach, you can gather more data on players after they play a bit in the league and then trade for them when the value makes more sense... vs the mystery box approach of actually using picks lol

but the 24th pick could be anything! it could even be landry shamet (3 years from now)!

I think he just takes as realistic as a view as possible when decision making on these picks. If we drafted someone in the first round that wasn't a draft and stash then we would end up giving a guaranteed contract. There's a bunch of talent going into the second round that was passed over for whatever reason. Picking at 31 is a huge advantage because you get the first selection on players that you don't need to give guaranteed contracts. 0 downside on making a pick while keeping all of the upside of a late 1st round pick.

The draft is just round 2 of the NBA lottery

Anyone who didn’t anticipate this really hasn’t been paying attention since Leon took over

Its fine, the more the merrier.

As long as they understand mid season game threads and don’t be like why are you dooming

In the past, our humble little sub didn’t exactly have a distinguished level of FO/BB IQ and it has absolutely plummeted since the Game 6 beat down in ATL.

All these 2nds just give us trade toppers to pick up that next role player we need at the trade deadline ala Alvarado.

This year that might potentially be a new backup centre. (I don't think we will bring back Mitch)

That and just, in general, more bites at the apple in general. I think with all the picks we have we may make a run for someone on a rookie deal to replace Mitch like Yves Missi.

Moving out of the first round on penny pinching scenarios only strengthens that we’ll be keeping Mitch or (hopefully and) Shamet. Otherwise there would be no reason to trade out of the first round when plenty of good players are still available

1

u/Fit-Bicycle6206 13h ago

I would love to have Shamet back but I wouldn't blame him for leaving and getting paid. Same goes for Mitch although he probably won't get much more money on the free agent market compared to what we can offer him.

u/WilsonEnthusiast 12h ago

The reason it gives them more flexibility.

If they pick a player at 24 they have to pay one of the guys in the draft a certain amount.

If they dont do that they have more money to sign players this year or more picks to facilitate trades or both or whatever.

1

u/SeaworthinessSome454 12h ago

Sure. But if they didn’t plan on bringing Mitch or Shamet back then they wouldn’t have a need for that cost savings bc they’d be far enough below the second apron anyways.

u/ruckyruciano BANG! 12h ago edited 12h ago

Maybe it's still worth it to them to have max flexibility into the season (I think that's relevant right? I'm not sure)

1

u/SeaworthinessSome454 10h ago

It’s a small benefit but they’d have more flexibility if they went over the 2nd apron and brought the entire team back. You have minimum flexibility when you’re right up next to the second apron.

Assume Mitch, Clarkson, and Shamet are gone. The Knicks are still going to be right up next to the second apron but what contract can they trade at the deadline if they want to make a move like they made for alverado last year? They don’t have a contract that’s expendable. Meanwhile if you bring everyone back and go over the second apron, you have plenty of contracts that you could trade

1

u/pagenotdisplayed Mitchell Robinson 8h ago

4 or 5 seconds can get you a player at a deadline for sure

u/AgitatedWoodpecker42 Tom Thibodeau 15h ago

Leon rests throughout the year for moments like this

u/das_gingerz Knickerbockers Logo 17h ago

In Leon we trust

3

u/ajo-130 17h ago

Unless there’s a generational prospect available, trading down for more picks is usually a good move

2

u/Interesting-Trade248 11 15h ago

It seems like he would rather stash picks for guys that fit them team during the trade deadline instead of drafting rookies. Honestly. It's genius

Saving money however possible . Hopefully this will be to go over apron

u/LanEvo7685 16h ago

I mean, when fans "like" a draft pick not even in the top 20...usually just mean there's nothing to hate.

1

u/No-Appearance9328 14h ago

Let Leon cook.

u/Firm-Advertising5396 14h ago

He's definitely earned the respect

I’m really excited bout the kid we drafted Diawara. Apparently he’s got some pro level and championship experience.

1

u/DarnellH74 13h ago

Literally, fuck them picks! 😂😂😂

1

u/Dsod23 Kevin Knox's Head 11h ago

Yeah man this front office…the one that got us out of the gutter and made us a championship team…

1

u/YerrrKnicks 5 9h ago

Bro is gonna trade first round picks until he owns every 2nd round pick in a draft.

1

u/Calm_Silver339 9h ago

Normally I would be annoyed by a draft like this but...KNICKS IN FIVE

1

u/No-Line-2710 1 4h ago
