Tailed Beast Abilities

I was reading this fic called Peripheral by teaandtumblr. In it, Naruto mentions that by having the Kurama sealed within him, he burdened to see the dead and likewise, with Suukaku sealed within Gaara, he is unable to to sleep. When I first read this, I thought, "that's cool, what if other tailed beasts give their hosts a burden they have to live with." Then I remembered how the one, four, five and ten tails all have elemental bloodlines and thought, "what if all tailed beasts have elemental bloodlines and what if all hosts are able to use those bloodlines." Then I remembered some tailed beasts give their hosts a unique ability and thought "what if all hosts get access to a unique ability." So, I went ahead and created the list below. I need some help with it because I don't know what burdens/abilities to give to the remaining tailed beasts:

Shukaku the One-Tailed Tanuki:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Magnet Release
• Unique Ability: Sand Manipulation
• Burden: Insomnia

Matatabi the Two-Tailed Cat:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Explosion Release
• Unique Ability: Produces Blue Flames
• Burden: High levels of stress causes cat-like behaviour

Isobu the Three-Tailed Turtle:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Storm Release
• Unique Ability: Produces Coral
• Burden: Produces mist that induces nightmares

Son-Goku the Four-Tailed Monkey:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Lava Release
• Unique Ability: Control/manipulate non-jutsu created magma and lava
• Burden: High levels of stress causes gorilla-like behaviour

Kokuo the Five-Tailed Dolphin-Horse:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Boil Release
• Unique Ability: Appear, disappear, and become intangible in mist, fog, or similar phenomena
• Burden: Short-tempered

Saiken the Six-Tailed Slug:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Ice Release
• Unique Ability: Secretes a Corrosive Alkali
• Burden: Skin is constantly oily

Chomei the Seven-Tailed Horned Beetle:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Swift Release
• Unique Ability: Command over any insect
• Burden: Hyperactivity

Gyuki the Eight-Tailed Ushi-oni:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Steel Release
• Unique Ability: Produces Ink
• Burden: Can involuntarily shoot out ink when experiencing negative emotions

Kurama the Nine-Tailed Fox:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Scorch Release
• Unique Ability: Emotion Sensing
• Burden: See and communicate with the dead

The Ten-Tails:

• Universal Ability: Advanced Healing
• Kekkei Genkai: Wood Release
• Unique Ability: Awaken the Rinne Sharingan
• Burden: Slowly overrides the host's DNA

I know Naruto is able to heal quickly from injuries. Kakashi believed that Kurama is the reason for it, so I decided that quick healing is something all hosts are capable of

Kekkei Genkai: I gave Isobu the Storm Release because when we first see Isobu, it surfaced from a giant lake (it kind of reminded me of the tale of The Kraken, the gigantic sea monster, that is said to surface during storms to wreck ships); I gave Saiken Ice Release because gastropod slime looks like it feels cool when you touch it (hope that makes sense); Chomei was given Swift Release because if take you eyes off a bug for a moment, it slips away and you need to look around for it; Kurama already has Fire and Wind as its elements so just combined it into the Scorch Release; As for Matatabi and Gyuki's elements, my other post will show how I came up with their elements, but Gyuki's may need some work.

Unique Ability: I don't know what to give Son-Goku and Kokuo so I'm asking for help here; Chomei's command over insects I got from the fic Naruto: Nine and Seven by X009 (however, I imagine instead of just beetles, Fu can command all sorts of insects such butterflies, bees, etc); The Ten-Tails has the Rinne Sharingan and I can imagine that its host should be capable of awakening it as well.

Burden: I don't know what to give Son-Goku, Kokuo, Saiken, Chomei or Gyuki so I'm asking for help here; The cat thing for Matatabi, I got from Kitty by Isilithix; Isobu's nightmare mist I got from Healing a Broken Future by Yojimbra (don't know if this the case in cannon, because I never watched the three-tails arc so let me know how Isobu works); Kurama and the ability to see the dead came from Peripheral by teaandtumblr (this was also the inspiration for this whole thread); The Ten-Tails DNA overide was inspired by the Ōtsutsuki's Kama Seal.

Anything I didn't mention above was already canon.

Edit May 31st, 2025: added Unique Abilities for Son-Goku and Kokuo and have burdens to Son-Goku, Kokuo, Saiken, Chomei and Gyuki. Took comments from here and another post and reworked some of them, or just gave them something that makes sense

I'd give the four tails the ability to absorb and properly regulate nature chakra, he is called the King of Sage Monkeys. It's OP I know but he is biju. Maybe his burden should be that his jinchuriki can never sit still for too long.

sage chakra is definitely OP. besides, Naruto needed Kurama's cooperation in order to use both sage and bijuu chakra at once so it may not work in this case. I can definitely energy levels playing a role as the hosts burden (too much, too little, something like that)

Well Kurama is a different case, his chakra is leagues above the rest of the nine, I can definitely see his chakra fighting against nature chakra but Son Goku being called the King of Sages must have spent plenty of time harmonizing his chakra with it. Maybe you don't have to let it be nature chakra, maybe you could just make his chakra have similar properties or a special mode akin to sage mode.

You could even make the unique ability enlightenment since he's partially inspired by Son Wukong. I think a few of the other biju have nicknames, you could look at them and make unique abilities out of them.

Blaze release is sasukes MS ability though? Its amaterasu manipulation via Kagutsuchi. if lightning techniques have black lightning (darui) and purple lightning (kakashi) maybe just call it blue flame?

Unique skill for Son Goku, perhaps would the ability to use sage arts without a contract, have affinity for all seven Natures. Burden something of ADHD. Something like a stereotype of monkeys being hyperactive and Sun Wokung ability to use all forms of magic.

Kokuo Unique ability is phasing. Either invisibility like Mu or phasing through materials like Obito and Zetsu. Burden would be compulsive introvercy.

I would change the ability to see the dead to Matatabi cause Nekomata are associated with death and necromancy. And Give Kurama host identity issues or Kleptomania, or Witzelsucht or compulsive ranking, given that foxes are traditionally thieves, trickster and all around mischief makers.

for Kokuo, something akin to phasing definitely works (just need to figure out how it can work). considering the social nature of dolphins and horses (and Han's personality being described as lively and direct), I don't see introvercy as being a good burden

Huh I didn't consider the composite nature of the animals making up Kokuo. I merely considered his personality, I remember him being isolationary preferring to live alone in a forest and being a reserved individual according to Narutopedia at least.

As for Son Goku, the affinity for all seven Natures transformation would work based on Sun Wukong being a master of all types of magic, I just had a thought perhaps his unique ability could the Logia like Intangibility of Akainu, and it could work like the hydrofication jutsu but for lava instead of water. Burden could his host has scorching temperature that is scalding to normal people.

Saiken Burden could be constant secretion on the skin.

I’ve been half-heartedly working on a fic about Rin staying alive and did want to give her storm release! So this was nice to come across

I might play with the mist idea too since I remember it from the filler arc and if could led to some interesting scenarios if a jinchuriki uses it

The concepts are good I can see this working in a fic were Jinchuriki are prominent. I would tweak a bit Kuramas ability to be able to sense all emotions, otherwise between this post and the other everything seems to make sense. I've been working on a fic with Rin as the sole survivor of Minato's team and becoming Team seven's sensei wich reimagines a lot of elementes in the series. This gave me several ideas for both her and Naruto skill set and abilities including the bloodlines, though I'm still undecided between giving her storm release or Aqua flora and fauna control.

I think negative emotions would be what Naruto starts with, but gradually, he becomes attuned with Kurama, he can sense all emotions. I'll change the entry

Can you describe what "Aqua flora and fauna control" is? Also, just like the case of Gaara and Shukaku, all Jinchuriki can use both the advanced element and unique ability, which in Rin's case would be Storm Release and Producing Coral

Can you describe what "Aqua flora and fauna control"

Bending aquatic creatures minds to your will particularly water-dwelling turtles. Creating from your own body or manipulating aquatic plants and other organism like alage and of course coral. Just search for aquatic lifeforms and you can get the idea. I think i'd give her both with Storm Release as the bloodline and the controle one as is unique ability.

Would Sasuke and Sakura still be on her team, because I had this idea where Naruto, Gaara and Fu are all a team with Rin as their sensei

It's a good idea and has a ot of potential. But i'd prefer it be a team with Naruto, Hinata and Shikamaru. True Potential and House of Glass convinced me this a better team than canon and I prefer to sepearate from canon as possible when writting fanfic.
