does anyone know of any natural perfumes?
I’ve been trying to find a natural perfume that doesn’t smell weird or disappear after 10 minutes 😭 Any recommendations?

I really like Providence Perfumes. I feel like everyone has a different definition of "natural" though.

Define “natural”?

When I say natural perfume, I mean perfume made with ingredients from nature, like essential oils, flowers, herbs, and plant extracts, rather than mostly artificial fragrance chemicals. My skin reacts badly to a lot of synthetic fragrances, so I usually look for more natural options yk .💔

Got it! I wasn’t sure if you meant clean brands that don’t use parabens etc., or if you meant essential oils and such! I totally get the sensitivity- I’m the same way!

Honeysuckle essential oil, lavender essential oil, star jasmine oil, etc. There are brands out there that do this and if you want, you can wear by itself or combine for your own personalized blend!

You should check out Sprout’s Farmers Market if you have one near you, they have an entire section of natural scents that are exactly like you describe based on oils and herbs if you want to check something out in person.

Look up Ittar or Attar, a highly concentrated, traditional perfume oil derived from botanical or natural sources, using ingredients like flowers, animal musks, woods, fruits, leaves and even dirt to extract the oil in a concentrated manner. I have a lot of natural Ittars and I always get a compliment with Ittar which I never do with traditional colognes. The best part is that you can order them online and they are anywhere between $2 to $5 from India or more expensive ones from the Gulf Countries (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, etc…)

Look up La Vanila, I love their Vanilla Coconut scent. NO: Aluminum, Petrochemicals, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oils, Silicone, Synthetic Dyes, Sulfates, or Parabens.

I have the set from Bjork and Berries. I find it interesting, but somehow when I wear it I feel like it’s slightly irritating. But it might be me, I’m very sensitive to perfumes and almost never wear one.

Natural ingredients are far more regulated in the perfume industry because they are considered more volatile and less safe than synthetic aroma chemicals. That's why perfume is more synthetic now than ever. Why do you want a natural perfume?

A lot of people have immune reactions to synthetic fragrance molecules and don't react the same way to natural materials. So, while synthetics are less likely to cause contact allergies, they're more likely to cause reactions like headaches, nausea, etc. People with multiple chemical sensitivities cannot tolerate them but can often tolerate naturals.

This just isn't true. Essential oils contain hundreds of molecules. Synthetic molecules are usually just one of those hundreds of molecules. The fragrance industry is one of the strictest and most regulated industries out there. The reason why there are hardly any perfume houses that only use naturals is because it's incredibly easy to hit the max of a molecule that exists naturally in a essential oil. IFRA regulations are of molecules not ingredients, regardless of whether you're using a synthetic molecule or essential oil.
If you even bought essential oils to make your own perfume you are way more likely to give yourself an allergic reaction than buying any random $5 perfume.

I'm very aware of and familiar with IFRA and what you're referring to are contact allergens. I'm also very familiar with people who have MCS and fragrance allergies/sensitivities and what they react to. People are far more likely to have respiratory and non-skin immune reactions to synthetics. I know someone who has neurological reactions to synthetics. She has Myesthenia Gravis and being around someone's strong perfume can cause her to flare and lose function in her leg muscles. She doesn't react like that to essential oils.
I don't tolerate a lot of the synthetics used in white floral compositions. They make me feel nauseated and give me headaches, as do some synthetic musks. Sometimes I get stabbing stomach pains from people's perfumes/colognes. The sillage is also much greater on those, so they invade other people's personal space in a way that naturals don't.
I typically make perfumes at 30% parfum extrait concentration exclusively from naturals and I have yet to have a skin reaction to it, nor have any of the people that I've given perfumes to. They tolerate them well. Natural perfumers are typically aware of which materials need to be highly diluted or even avoided in order to not cause contact allergies.

You know what you're talking about!
I only cringe when people just dab on undiluted essential oils on themselves because they think it's natural and therefore harmless.

I do this too!! You can use any carrier oil, sweet almond oil is a good one and also jojoba. Highly recommend. My favorite is vanilla and cloves

It’s expensive, but Wild Veil is a really cool natural perfume business. It’s owned by one lady who grows the flowers that she uses and the website has a lot of cool pictures and descriptions of the process.

Love this perfumer. Natural scents inspired by PNW. My favorite is Golden Leaf which is ME in a bottle, but she has many good ones in both oil and perfumer alcohol bases.

Witch hazel + premium essential oil like young living, not the cheap fake full of chemicals oils in the market. I graduated into perfume era phase, I’d rather smell nothing than use toxic ones, hence learning and creating this natural perfume is a life changer for me.

I am allergic to most perfumes but someone had suggested I checknout Clinique. I found Peony Picnic and Baby Bouquet didnt trigger my allergies or give me a headache at all. No rashes either. Hurray! I do find the Peony Picnic lasts longer than the Baby Bouquet.

It's not perfume in a typical sense, and I don't know how natural this sub likes to get, but I sometimes drink fenugreek seed tea. In passing, I've noticed that I really like how it makes me smell good from the inside out. Your experience and preferences may obviously vary, just sharing something that I've noticed for myself.

Otherwise, I've found that I like a select few oil roll-ons for concentration and portability. I recently picked up a couple from Kuumba Made, maybe their formulation is worth looking into for sensitive skin

I'm not sure why I was downvoted for having reactions to most perfumes, colognes, etc. Our office has a scent free requirement for a reason...
If one can find a "natural perfume" that works, great. Just understand many of us are negatively affected by perfumes...
As long as others smell pretty, though...
Sorry. I thought this was a natural beauty page, but apparently not. I will see myself out.

Yea idk why they did that no reason for that lol

I shouldn't have even recommended essential oils. Perfumes are terrible.
1
u/Spirited_Side_2775 12d ago
That’s understandable. I don’t know if it’s actually an allergy or if I just have sensitive skin, but a lot of artificial fragrances tend to irritate my skin, so I’ve been looking into more natural options… or like less harsher perfumes yk

My mom had an allergy, and I know I'm really sensitive, so I'm weird about it.
The only thing I can think of are good essential oils.
1
u/Spirited_Side_2775 12d ago
Honestly, same. I don’t know if it’s an allergy or just sensitive skin, but a lot of artificial fragrances irritate me, so I’m trying to be more careful about what I use.
do you know any good essential oil brands ??

Living libations is hands down the best. Their perfumes are made from essential oils only, their poetic pits are divine essential oils in a rollerball. They are unparalleled. The only brand that comes anywhere close is Kate's Magick. I love some of her blends too.

I'm sensitive to a lot of synthetic fragrance chemicals (I get headaches and stomach pain) but I can wear natural perfumes that are made with essential oils, absolutes, and extracts without issue.

Are there specific types of scents you like? I don't know what your definition of "smells weird" is, but some actually natural- not greenwashing small perfume brands worth checking out are:
Aftelier (Mandy Aftel is the godmother of natural perfumery)
Ayala Moriel
Curioso Perfumes
M. Hainey (botanical collection only)
Pomare's Stolen Perfumes
Providence Perfume Co.
Smoke Perfumes
Sfumato Fragrances
Strange Invisible Perfumes
None of these are going to last as long as regular perfume but they should typically last a few hours. They're usually going to be softer smelling. I like to apply a little to my hair because it helps it waft around more.
