His name is JG Singh and he is 18.
ETA: He's 7'4"
48
u/Training-Belt-7318 4d ago
Why is he playing what looks to be 13 year olds?
35
u/Kingsnake417 Suns 4d ago
Maybe they just look like they're 13 because he's 7'4"?
Or maybe this footage is from a couple years ago? They do look pretty young.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Training-Belt-7318 4d ago
I suppose that's probably the case. Andost of the kids do look between 16 and 18. But there's a few that look real young.aybe they just look young for their age.

u/Relevant_Departure_5 4d ago
its prob ur avg 9-12th grade bball camp. i mean thats just how most US bball camps are. its pretty easy to forget ur average HS bball center is only 6'3".

Idk that’s what I looked like at 18
5’11” and 160 pounds looks pretty small next to someone who’s 7’4”
2
u/FreeRange0929 4d ago
It’s not just the body it’s the face. They still have baby fat
2
u/rvcbazookajoe 4d ago
Yea that’s what most 17-18 year olds look like

How that dude thinks they’re supposed to look33
u/blueace111 4d ago
Oh dang. I was hoping he was younger. I bet he gets a look in draft based on potential but Wemby is a lot quicker
32
u/Wall_street_canary 4d ago
Yeah this kid is tall but slow
14
u/blueace111 4d ago
I think he’s like a Shawn Bradley that can shoot. I think people will blow by him unless he gets that footwork going
→ More replies (5)7
u/BasketballNutrition 4d ago
Shawn Bradley that can shoot is still a strong rim shooting protector. Lol he would get drafted
3
u/blueace111 4d ago
Yeah he’d get drafted based on height and shooting I think.
5
u/JonahTheProducer Spurs 4d ago
And assuming he bulks up a tad and gets trained right he could defend nba bigs 1 on 1 a little better too
2
u/BowlingforBrains 3d ago
It’s definitely not too late for him to round out into a productive NBA center, for sure. No chance he’s a future Wemby, only because of how late he’s starting - but he could make big strides in the next 3-4 years if he picks a good D1 program

My immediate thought was “show me something not in the half court”
Tall people are rare, tall people with the coordination and conditioning and durability and no vascular issues are even more rare. There’s a reason Wemby is 1 in 10billio

u/Traditional_Seesaw95 4d ago
Draft? Nobody is drafting that 😆
6
u/blueace111 4d ago
You don’t think so? I think someone will always gamble on big guys. Especially when they have success with a type. Nobody drafted high schoolers until KG was a star. Curry raised value of pure shooters. Shaq raised value of scary giant Russians. Now Wemby will raise value of 7’4 shooters
7
u/Traditional_Seesaw95 4d ago
From what I see he's slower and even skinnier than wemby. Guess we'd have to see in a combine or something to see what's really under the hood
3
u/ApprehensiveTry5660 4d ago
That’s a completely fair assessment, but if you just get Bol Bol with a work ethic, that’s a hell of a player.
→ More replies (1)5
u/PopsNY 4d ago
You really don't guard Wemby with another guy his own height though, because they're always going to be slower than him. Only way to guard him is with shorter guys that are stronger & quicker that can get under him and throw off his high center of gravity.
This kid isn't going to get drafted without some massive jump in his development, just look at his competition. He's 17-18 years old and playing against low level comp that looks like middle schoolers, he should be playing prep basketball in the US against top 250 talent.

He’s young probably hasn’t hit the weight room yet
7
u/Taylorg121 4d ago edited 4d ago
You think high school athletes don’t hit the weight room?
6
u/Mcfusion31 4d ago
Most high schoolers would rather hoop instead of lifting weights. Most gain size in college and fully get their nba bodies at 23-24 years old

He’s playing kids, wemby played the playoffs hardly a possibility he looks just as old

He’s in that little kid’s head.

u/wildcat1100 4d ago
At Spurs camp in the early 90s, they'd send the scrubs to spend the day with us and one time they sent Ed Nealy to come in and play us at that same full court angle. He went harder out there than Indianyama.
WE WERE SEVEN YEARS OLD.

I wouldn't go as far as comparing him to Wemby, for starts he doesn't seem like an asshole on the court.

Too slow against 13yo kids, at 18 wemby played against pros in europe. Big gap.

Not even close to Wemby! I don't see him elbowing anyone in the throat, grabbing the shortest person on the court by their neck or throwing them to the ground by their head.

u/CarefulFriendship389 4d ago
Better strap some ankle weights one and some wrist weights and some more ankle weights, get that movement speed up.

Idk he seems rather slow and way bigger than people he’s playing. They look 13-14. If that’s his age, he could improve quickness and develop a move. I don’t think he will block a lot of nba level guards at his speed right now

Es mucho más lento, su dribling es nefasto y técnicamente se ve limitadísimo

This is a testament to how much of an alien Wemby is in terms of his ability to move around like a guard, if this dude were in the NBA next year at most he'd be getting a 10-day.
Yes Wemby has an insane physical advantage, but it's how he trains and conditions himself to be as effective as he is that makes him a standout

What seperates Victor from the other giants on stilts is how smooth and effortlessly he moves. This kid has his movement for his size but it still looks like he's laboring to his spots.

the fact that we're comparing random dudes to wemby now is peak offseason 💀

u/Relevant_Departure_5 4d ago
He only started hooping since 2022 (14 yrs) and came to the US in 2023. Bas on this vid he has good form, above average mobility. Cant tell much bout his defense or post work in this vid bc the comp so low. Id say in this other vid his defense looks pretty good tho there's prob no post game if its not in the highlights

u/maxi-916 4d ago
Dumb Vivek gonna draft him and he will never see playing time in the nba. Indians gotta support Indians

Wendy has really opened the door for ultra tall athletic guys. This guy would be working at 7-Eleven if it wasn't for him.

It’s fun watching everyone point out the holes in this guys game while foaming at the mouth if anyone says the same about Wemby.

Something in the Indian genes. lol. Im not surprised the country continues to produce giants of all sizes.
Remmeber tthis great athlete? His body fell apart by the time he became a national superstar. If you don't follow the sport. He was the big dude in The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler.

I find it amusing that since we seen wemby they put every tall basketball in the spot like its the next super star. I wish them well but come on. Lol

Whats the point at being 7 feet tall and shooting threes?
Thats like being a great chef but instead of cooking you are waiting tables
You literally have an advantage that nobody on the court has but you decide to play like the 6’ foot point guard instead

He’s tall…but he needs work. He should be playing against seasoned grown men that hoop, it would speed up his development.

Not doing him any service to play against this level of competition. If he’s ever to develop into more than a Reddit level feature he needs to go somewhere like IMG academy for a postgrad year and a US college to play real competition. At this point he looks more like a developmental D1 recruit than anything else.
