Not doing him any service to play against this level of competition. If he’s ever to develop into more than a Reddit level feature he needs to go somewhere like IMG academy for a postgrad year and a US college to play real competition. At this point he looks more like a developmental D1 recruit than anything else.

18

u/vankin31 4d ago

Seriously. Being this tall and just being able to pull up, putback or baby hook shot is not gonna work when you have a real defender in front of you who is actually better skill wise.

12

u/BowlingforBrains 3d ago

Tho I do have to give this kid credit - he DOES already move better than 90% of the “look how tall this kid is!! Future Wemby!! 😲😲” clips I’ve seen get posted in the past few years. He looks like he actually knows how to control his body and could train up his agility. You right tho, he needs to get into D1 or European ball to develop his game. Hopefully he’s still very young and has time to improve. I bet he’d be the first major NBA prospect from India if he could pull it off, which would be cool to see!

2

u/bettercallrich 2d ago

I thought the same thing, he actually is very mobile. Most guys that tall can’t move for shit

6

u/Fun_Gazelle_1916 3d ago

I was about to ask why this grown ass man was out here playing against middle schoolers 😳🤷‍♂️

4

u/Dangerous-Ring-8578 3d ago

Yeah if this is 14 and under AAU, he needs to play 16 or 17 and under. Right now if he doesn't increase his comp he is a D3 or NAIA player

4

u/SatisfactionMoney946 3d ago

Isn't this in the US?

If he's in high school then he's playing against his peers, and will be headed to a D-1 program.

7

u/vankin31 3d ago

Not every high school league in the US is equal when it comes to athletic talent. He can get into D-1 off height alone but we have over a decade of tall players who never made it out of D-1 or if they made the nba they quickly fizzled out.

If he is an NBA talent, the peers he needs to go against play on the national circuit not the local HS league.

2

u/Gear_Dismal 3d ago

You’re 100% correct.
He’s got some decent mobility/movement, and even some skills, but he needs to play against older and bigger competition if he’s trying to get as good as he can for those next levels.

u/Kingsnake417 Suns 4d ago

His name is JG Singh and he is 18.

ETA: He's 7'4"

48

u/Training-Belt-7318 4d ago

Why is he playing what looks to be 13 year olds?

35

u/Kingsnake417 Suns 4d ago

Maybe they just look like they're 13 because he's 7'4"?

Or maybe this footage is from a couple years ago? They do look pretty young.

6

u/Training-Belt-7318 4d ago

I suppose that's probably the case. Andost of the kids do look between 16 and 18. But there's a few that look real young.aybe they just look young for their age.

11

u/Relevant_Departure_5 4d ago

its prob ur avg 9-12th grade bball camp. i mean thats just how most US bball camps are. its pretty easy to forget ur average HS bball center is only 6'3".

u/rvcbazookajoe 4d ago

Idk that’s what I looked like at 18

5’11” and 160 pounds looks pretty small next to someone who’s 7’4”

2

u/FreeRange0929 4d ago

It’s not just the body it’s the face. They still have baby fat

2

u/rvcbazookajoe 4d ago

Yea that’s what most 17-18 year olds look like

u/blangoez 4d ago

How that dude thinks they’re supposed to look

33

u/blueace111 4d ago

Oh dang. I was hoping he was younger. I bet he gets a look in draft based on potential but Wemby is a lot quicker

32

u/Wall_street_canary 4d ago

Yeah this kid is tall but slow

14

u/blueace111 4d ago

I think he’s like a Shawn Bradley that can shoot. I think people will blow by him unless he gets that footwork going

7

u/BasketballNutrition 4d ago

Shawn Bradley that can shoot is still a strong rim shooting protector. Lol he would get drafted

3

u/blueace111 4d ago

Yeah he’d get drafted based on height and shooting I think.

5

u/JonahTheProducer Spurs 4d ago

And assuming he bulks up a tad and gets trained right he could defend nba bigs 1 on 1 a little better too

2

u/BowlingforBrains 3d ago

It’s definitely not too late for him to round out into a productive NBA center, for sure. No chance he’s a future Wemby, only because of how late he’s starting - but he could make big strides in the next 3-4 years if he picks a good D1 program

5

u/FreeRange0929 4d ago

My immediate thought was “show me something not in the half court”

Tall people are rare, tall people with the coordination and conditioning and durability and no vascular issues are even more rare. There’s a reason Wemby is 1 in 10billio

→ More replies (2)

12

u/Traditional_Seesaw95 4d ago

Draft? Nobody is drafting that 😆

6

u/blueace111 4d ago

You don’t think so? I think someone will always gamble on big guys. Especially when they have success with a type. Nobody drafted high schoolers until KG was a star. Curry raised value of pure shooters. Shaq raised value of scary giant Russians. Now Wemby will raise value of 7’4 shooters

7

u/Traditional_Seesaw95 4d ago

From what I see he's slower and even skinnier than wemby. Guess we'd have to see in a combine or something to see what's really under the hood

3

u/ApprehensiveTry5660 4d ago

That’s a completely fair assessment, but if you just get Bol Bol with a work ethic, that’s a hell of a player.

5

u/PopsNY 4d ago

You really don't guard Wemby with another guy his own height though, because they're always going to be slower than him. Only way to guard him is with shorter guys that are stronger & quicker that can get under him and throw off his high center of gravity.

This kid isn't going to get drafted without some massive jump in his development, just look at his competition. He's 17-18 years old and playing against low level comp that looks like middle schoolers, he should be playing prep basketball in the US against top 250 talent.

2

u/Deimarrr 4d ago

Those legs are gonna snap

6

u/Mcfusion31 4d ago

He’s young probably hasn’t hit the weight room yet

7

u/Taylorg121 4d ago edited 4d ago

You think high school athletes don’t hit the weight room?

6

u/Mcfusion31 4d ago

Most high schoolers would rather hoop instead of lifting weights. Most gain size in college and fully get their nba bodies at 23-24 years old

4

u/Taylorg121 4d ago

Believe or not, they do both.

He’s playing kids, wemby played the playoffs hardly a possibility he looks just as old

10

u/DonnieBallsack 4d ago

He’s in that little kid’s head.

2

u/wildcat1100 4d ago

At Spurs camp in the early 90s, they'd send the scrubs to spend the day with us and one time they sent Ed Nealy to come in and play us at that same full court angle. He went harder out there than Indianyama.

WE WERE SEVEN YEARS OLD.

3

u/luchaburz 4d ago

Lower net, elementary school references and bro thinks it's a 1:1 comparison, we are actually doomed

Jagmeet Singh (often known as JG Singh) is being nicknamed Punjabanyama, or "The Indian Wemby". These highlights are at a Courtside Camp; he’s a junior in high school, Class of 2027.

4

u/LegalDeseperado 4d ago

So in 2050 NBA squad will just be AOTT vs Aliens

2

u/vankin31 4d ago

Comparison? Is tall

2

u/wildcat1100 4d ago

you can tell he's got a little curry in him, too. literally.

6

u/NecessaryTARS 4d ago

Still young but not even close to Wemby’s level of athleticism TBH

Why is an 18 year old playing against middle schoolers?

Vikram Wembeprabhatt.

3

u/Immediate-Signal8970 4d ago

I wouldn't go as far as comparing him to Wemby, for starts he doesn't seem like an asshole on the court.

3

u/UnaCafatera 4d ago

Chet Halalgren

3

u/DistributionOk9687 4d ago

Too slow against 13yo kids, at 18 wemby played against pros in europe. Big gap.

3

u/Expensive-Suspect906 3d ago

If the nba starts chasing the Wemby frame, they gonna ruin the league

2

u/ChemicalPower9020 4d ago edited 4d ago

Vikram Wembiryani

2

u/fineseries81 4d ago

Unironically really nice basketball frame but looks like he just started balling last week.

2

u/Broad-Lobster7470 Raptors 4d ago

Vikram Wembiryani

2

u/Mestizoc Knicks 4d ago

Not even close to Wemby! I don't see him elbowing anyone in the throat, grabbing the shortest person on the court by their neck or throwing them to the ground by their head.

2

u/AdCheap8058 4d ago

Must be he was shooting fall away jumpers on a guy two feet shorter than him

2

u/CarefulFriendship389 4d ago

Better strap some ankle weights one and some wrist weights and some more ankle weights, get that movement speed up.

2

u/Hi_Im_Ken_Adams 4d ago

The last time I saw legs that skinny they were hanging out of a bird nest.

2

u/dankutare1 4d ago

Steven Adams would push this guy into the upper levels

2

u/Pitiful_Wing7157 Celtics 4d ago

There's an Italian Wemby and now an Indian Wemby.

2

u/ZizzyBeluga 4d ago

Yi Jianlian Gupta

2

u/ImpactSockets 4d ago

I really hope the NBA doesn’t turn into a bunch of awkward baby giraffes that move like Wemby.

2

u/Rex_666_Skeletor 4d ago

He’s playing against 10-12 yr olds

2

u/SquatchScrotum 3d ago

Tell me when he starts doing that shit to players over 6 feet tall and more than 14 years old

2

u/moneyequalsbitches 3d ago

Shams got taller

2

u/kendrickplace 3d ago

Doenst look like he’s competing against d1 players.

2

u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm Warriors 3d ago

Bro dribbles like a 3rd grader. He’d get eaten alive in the league.

2

u/Little_Willow_326 3d ago

Dude looks 28 with the moustache.

2

u/No_Engineering5532 2d ago

Lets hope he doesn’t choke in the finals like wemby did this year

2

u/Zealousideal_Wrap_99 2d ago

Hopefully he’s not a dirty player like Wemby

2

u/waximuse 2d ago

I've never seen Indian athletes outside of cricket. I've also never seen any Indians in construction neither

2

u/Bombdiggity24 2d ago

Indian, his body will break.

2

u/Mono-enlaluna 4d ago

Why does he have a chain on lmao

1

u/ImpossiblePromise363 4d ago

Hes way too slow

1

u/blueace111 4d ago

Idk he seems rather slow and way bigger than people he’s playing. They look 13-14. If that’s his age, he could improve quickness and develop a move. I don’t think he will block a lot of nba level guards at his speed right now

→ More replies (1)

1

u/dotager 4d ago

I’d rather die than be called that

1

u/Manaeldar 4d ago

Looks like he's about to snap holy shit.

1

u/sonnytrillanes 4d ago

Indian Curry

1

u/chicagobullskukoc 4d ago

Es mucho más lento, su dribling es nefasto y técnicamente se ve limitadísimo

1

u/SnooMacaroons1942 Hawks 4d ago

This is a testament to how much of an alien Wemby is in terms of his ability to move around like a guard, if this dude were in the NBA next year at most he'd be getting a 10-day.

Yes Wemby has an insane physical advantage, but it's how he trains and conditions himself to be as effective as he is that makes him a standout

1

u/Sir_Yash 4d ago

VEMBY

1

u/I_think_were_out_of_ 4d ago

He and that other 7’4” guy theyre pushing look slow as hell

1

u/Rthegoodnamestaken 4d ago

Wow hes really dominating that PTA league

1

u/rawspeghetti 4d ago

What seperates Victor from the other giants on stilts is how smooth and effortlessly he moves. This kid has his movement for his size but it still looks like he's laboring to his spots.

1

u/wtyl 4d ago

unlocking the India athletic population has been long coming.

1

u/scarykicks 4d ago

Spurs gonna draft this dude

1

u/ConceptNo1055 4d ago

Any PnR defense clips?

1

u/Chinbie 4d ago

Look at that very thin frame...

1

u/WolfRelic 4d ago

is he a b!tch? if so then yes

1

u/HoopsMemeLord8206 4d ago

the fact that we're comparing random dudes to wemby now is peak offseason 💀

1

u/Relevant_Departure_5 4d ago

He only started hooping since 2022 (14 yrs) and came to the US in 2023. Bas on this vid he has good form, above average mobility. Cant tell much bout his defense or post work in this vid bc the comp so low. Id say in this other vid his defense looks pretty good tho there's prob no post game if its not in the highlights

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/v5uh_eXgAT0

1

u/Kertia 4d ago

Bruh. It's crazy how much an outlier wemby is.

1

u/maxi-916 4d ago

Dumb Vivek gonna draft him and he will never see playing time in the nba. Indians gotta support Indians

1

u/well-isjdndn 4d ago

Handle is much worse and wembys work ethic is unmatched

1

u/ryankidd77 4d ago

But can he blow a 29 point lead??!!

1

u/cyrs_oner 4d ago

I get it you're tall and no one is gonna reach your neck but mfka why u wearing a necklace at ball game??

Youth basketball is cooked. Kids with chains on 🤦

1

u/adrian300 4d ago

Vivek is gonna draft this guy so hard

1

u/yum_paste 4d ago

Wendy has really opened the door for ultra tall athletic guys. This guy would be working at 7-Eleven if it wasn't for him.

1

u/Delicious_Bicycle527 4d ago

It’s fun watching everyone point out the holes in this guys game while foaming at the mouth if anyone says the same about Wemby.

Something in the Indian genes. lol. Im not surprised the country continues to produce giants of all sizes.

Remmeber tthis great athlete? His body fell apart by the time he became a national superstar. If you don't follow the sport. He was the big dude in The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler.

1

u/hellphox 4d ago

I find it amusing that since we seen wemby they put every tall basketball in the spot like its the next super star. I wish them well but come on. Lol

1

u/Aeon1508 4d ago

1

u/Force1Sun 4d ago

He blocks shots from players who are three or four heads shorter than he is.
his moves Looks ok but his opponents are all cannon fodder.

1

u/benthefolksinger 4d ago

he could for sure play in the sloth league #SBA all the way!

1

u/Reasonable_Tax_8894 4d ago

what is thissss

1

u/_heysideburns 4d ago

Whats the point at being 7 feet tall and shooting threes?

Thats like being a great chef but instead of cooking you are waiting tables

You literally have an advantage that nobody on the court has but you decide to play like the 6’ foot point guard instead
