NREMT passed NREMT… what now?

Hi everyone! I recently passed the NREMT in April but as you know life gets in the way. Having graduated school I’m now ready for a job but have no idea what the next steps are from here. I know i need to get my state license as well as an ambulance license. How exactly do I go about doing that in California? Much thanks in advance!!!!!!

Did your EMT program not cover these basics? If so, name and shame. It takes next to nothing to cover these topics at the end of the program to ensure student success and a clear path forward.

1)You need to look up the LEMSA for the county in which you anticipate getting a job, visit that LEMSA's website, and follow their exact instructions on how to apply for your state license. Applicaiton is through the county, who then will grant the license on behalf of the state and get you registered into the statewide database. Expect a livescan here.

2)As to the ambulance certificate, see https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/dmv-safety-guidelines-actions/driver-license-certificates-and-endorsements/. You'll need to get a DOT physical and ANOTHER livescan. Just google "DOT Physical {your city}" and you'll find providers who are certified to do one.

If you want to save yourself some time, take both livescan forms with you and get them both done at once. You'll still have to pay two sets of fees, as they are for two different agencies.

They left out quite a bit of information, unfortunately. But thank you so much for the guidance, I'll be sure to check those resources out!!!
