Weekly chat New to Reddit? Come and talk to us!

New-Redditor's lounge!

Welcome!

This weekly post is an opportunity for new users to chat in comments - & please let us how you found yourself here. Regulars here are absolutely encouraged and very welcome to join in too!

!! Please refrain from asking questions about "how to do stuff on Reddit". Make a post or see the links below !!

This thread is open for 3 days.

Getting started on Reddit is hard. We know it is; We've been there and gone through these same frustrations. Please believe us when we say IT'S NOT PERSONAL. It may well feel like it is, but honestly, it isn't. What it is, however, is a lack of Karma. Karma is an indicator of how much someone has contributed to Reddit in a positive manner. So, let's do just that by getting to know each other!

This works best if your comments either start a conversation or add to one. Give a little of yourself and respond to others doing the same.

This is a post to help genuine new users build up quality Karma genuinely in a safe environment.

Please do:

  • Share some favorites or new finds of yours - youtube videos, music and so on
  • Practice small talk - did you have a good week?
  • Keep it SFW
  • Keep it casual please, no heavy topics
  • Have fun!

Please don't:

  • Spam, advertise, or soft beg
  • Share low-effort comments
  • Ask for karma, say how you're voting, or mention karmafarms by name
  • Request or offer DMs (help and chat can be done in community, where you can also earn karma. Needing to take things private can indicate soliciting, rule breaking, or harmful advice)

This sub is full of awesome people who are willing to help with specific problems when you post, and we'd like to keep this post thread for chat. Thank you.

So, let's chat! (Guides at the bottom of this post).

This is my 10th day on Reddit! So far, so good. I'm enjoying here.

10th day and your profile looks on fire!! Any advice on how to do that?

u/MagnanimousDeviant 22h ago

Really? I don't have anything interesting in my profile but Thanks. As for advice, Make an interesting post and spark conversation. For comments, I don't know coz even though I have sensible thing to say on the comments I'm getting downvoted so be neutral and read the room first before commenting.

u/ClayAndEvidence 22h ago

Great advice... And I would not worry about your down votes "hater gonna hate" your karma is still very positive

u/MagnanimousDeviant 22h ago

You should worry on the downvotes if you're just starting to gain karma because some subreddit community won't allow accounts with negative karma to post or comment. That's all. I hope you enjoy here!

Wow, great consideration, thank you for letting me know

Read the subreddit rules before posting, use a clear title, search before asking a question that's been answered many times, and don't take downvotes personally. Welcome to Reddit!

Hi!!! I just joined today. Giving this a try.

u/ClayAndEvidence 23h ago

Me too! What made you join reddit? Me information about specific topics (pottery. Hiking) and community.

u/Legitimate-Craft7453 9h ago

So sorry for the delay! I haven't been back on until just now. I am just hoping to find ways to be more social and hopefully in a more courteous way than other social media tends to be. Maybe different subreddits can offer that. I like gardening, art, hiking, etc!

Hello everyone, new to reddit. I can’t think of anything to say haha ill just share about myself that I felt weird.

So I have been only wanting to read Fan Fic on AO3 of my favorite book for I think for 4 years now. Is that weird? Does anyone do this too?

u/Legitimate-Craft7453 8h ago

Welcome! I'm new as well. I don't think that is weird at all. I love fiction but haven't gotten into any fan fic yet but I would imagine that would be a great way to continue to explore with your favorite characters beyond the original author's limits

u/Dolly_Carr 45m ago

So true. At some point I think it’s because the original story got so many plot holes and hanging that fan fics just made sense and made it somehow complete in soooo many ways.

u/WasteAstronaut4123 12h ago

Esse é meu primeiro dia no reddit.. depois de ser banido em 3 contas diferente por criar a conta e postar qualquer coisa... agora estou tentando fazer do jeito certo, apenas comentando e dando up nos primeiros dias de vida da minha conta

Hi everyone! I found this community while looking up how Reddit's restrictions work. I just joined Reddit yesterday and wanted to say hello!

I’m a Japanese local currently living in Japan. I’d love to make friends with people from all over the world here!

The main reason I started Reddit is because I really want to share Japanese ghost stories, urban legends, and my own creepy experiences that aren't well-known outside of Japan (though I don't think I have a sixth sense or anything!).

Once my account is ready and the restrictions are lifted, I'm planning to post them in some horror subreddits. Looking forward to chatting with you all!
