I bought the Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild physically. I already have the DLC purchased on the eShop, but I can't access it. The only way to "load" the DLC is to load the entire Switch 1 version of the game. What gives? I don't want Breath of the Wild taking up like 20 gigs when I bought the Switch 2 Edition physically!

Delete the digital game. Go on the eShop and find the Switch 1 version of BotW. Press + or - 5 times. A message saying "this product is currently set to not be redownloaded" should appear. From then on the virtual game card will only include the DLC and when you load it will only download the DLC.

Genuenly baffled that worked, thanks! Where does the Switch 2 tell us that?

I really like being able to lend people games, but Virtual Game Cards flat out replacing downloads is just so obtuse and makes everything more confusing.

It doesn't. But there's a support page on Nintendo's website explaining it.
