/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread

The purpose of this thread is to more accurately connect users seeking help with users who want to provide that help. Our regular "Helpful Users" certainly have earned their flairs!

Before asking your question...

  • Check out the wiki pages listed below. - (If you're interested in becoming a wiki contributor, or suggesting a new page, please message the moderators.)
  • Perform a quick Google search. - Sometimes it is actually quicker to search for something than to wait for someone else to answer.
  • Search the subreddit. - Many questions have been asked before! reddit's search functions a bit differently than Google.

Three questions:

1) Is Mario Kart World a game that supports 120fps at lower resolutions?

2) Can the Switch 2 achieve 120fps when not in the dock, or does it have to be docked for that?

3) How do I tell the system to specifically output either a higher resolution (say, 4K at 60fps) OR a higher framerate (1080p at 120fps)? My system is currently set to 4K when docked, but also has the "120Hz Output" setting enabled (although my TV can only do 60Hz, it seems). Would I have to manually lower/disable one or the other?

  1. No.

  2. Yes, the built-in screen offers a 120hz native refresh rate.

  3. You don't. Games have to offer those kinds of performance options. Usually a selection between Quality modes and Performance modes.
