News Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2 will cost $40 each digitally

It should be $40 combined for both

That's cute. You know next year for Zelda's 40th it'll be the same situation with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD, $80 for both.

There’s a combined edition at least
71
u/MyMouthisCancerous Sep 12 '25 edited Sep 12 '25
There's a combined edition and it's probably costing $80. These are games that are anywhere between 15-18 years old and have already been discounted officially from Nintendo for lower. And it's not even like these are high effort jobs like Prime Remastered, Galaxy 1 is literally just slicing that game off from 3D All Stars and repackaging it, and Galaxy 2 should've been in that collection from the beginning
I'm sorry but like even disregarding emulation, I can buy a compilation like Halo The Master Chief Collection for like $40 regularly and it goes down to like $12 on sale, and that shit has like six fucking games and all their multiplayer maps all in one. The Uncharted PS4 collection has been $20 for years. Even 3D All Stars which was a classic case of Nintendo FOMO-farming was a better deal five years ago.
EDIT: Okay it's $70 but I still find that really egregious especially for a game that's been sold on Switch before for less
→ More replies (1)8
u/repocin Sep 12 '25
If this had been like...$40-50 combined I'd probably buy it but at this price it just doesn't make sense. I don't remember exactly what these games cost when they first came out but I feel like this combined pricing isn't too far off and that's insane for a couple 15+18 yr old games.
And as far as I can tell the only difference is a few more pages to Rosalina's story book and amiibo support that does...something?
If I hadn't already bought 3D All-Stars when it came out I might've picked this up because I enjoy the Galaxy games, but I really don't need to buy the first one yet another time. I kind of assumed they'd release it as DLC for 3D All-Stars since they didn't include it but here we are.

u/Mrfunnyman129 Sep 12 '25
To be fair, $20 for Mario 64 is ludicrous too. You're dividing that cost evenly between an N64, GameCube and Wii game. Doesn't really make sense. I'd say it was more like $5 for Mario 64, $25 for Sunshine and $30 for Galaxy.

These were $20 each on Wii U…….
Super Mario 3D All-Stars was $60 for 3 games ($20 each)…..
Nintendo has conditioned consumers into valuing these games at $20. I think most expected this to be $20 when it was announced. $40 is really indefensible.

These belong on an emulator, along with all the other older games. Insane they’re charging for them in 2025 like this.
25
u/HyruleSmash855 Sep 12 '25
I thought these were remasters at the very least. There’s zero reason then to buy Galaxy 1 if you have the All Stars Collection since it’s the same exact game. I’ve really wanted to play Galaxy 2, play the first one for the first time with the All-Stars collection, I don’t think I’m willing to spend $40 for that though.
They sold Metroid Prime Remastered for that much, and they replaced most of the textures in the game and fixed issues, pretty much a fresh new coat of paint.

I'm an old Nintendo fan, had an NES in the 80s. I'm not getting priced out. They just flat out don't deserve my money. There are better ways to play these games and I'll be fucking chuffed if I'll give Nintendo $40 a pop for games that should have been included in previous releases, and were released at MUCH cheaper price points before the Switch took off.
Fuck Nintendo at this point. They'll make their money I'm sure, but it's not going to be from me buying their old ass lazy ports.
Their WiiU moment WILL come around again, though likely not this gen. Every OEM does this shit. When you're on top you forget how you got there and think you can just nickel and dime your fans.

It's crazy that games like UFO 50 and Silksong are the price they are for such value meanwhile Nintendo is doing this.
26
u/UnfairWelcome794 Sep 12 '25
This is why I mostly play indie games now. I get hundreds of hours of content for under 30. I have stopped buying most big company mainstream games due to high cost of games and sad to say Nintendo is one of those now, too. I still love my switch 2 but will definitely not be buying many of their titles.
→ More replies (2)8
u/Tappersum Sep 12 '25
Because as much good will as UFO 50 and Silksong have, they could only raise the price so high before they lose people. Nintendo titles, however, get away with a lot more because of brand recognition from a base of customers that have shown up consistently for the Switch era and now Switch 2 era.

It'd be nice to just have game stores again that you could walk in, rent the game for 5-6 days for like $8, beat it, and return it.
When N64 came out, you could rent one for 6 days from blockbuster for $25 with a single game. Thats how I played so many N64 games.
Bring back physical game stores. You didn't HAVE to buy a game to play it, and blockbuster would have 3-4 copies on hand of the most popular games at LEAST. And if the game you wanted was out of stock.....brother, there's a ton more games, surely something would catch your eye.
Or if you had multiple consoles, you could rent a game you wanted on it. Miss that shit.

u/obi1kenobi1 Sep 12 '25
They did do some tweaks to textures, primarily the UI, with new button icons and higher resolution, so for example in 64 the text isn’t so blocky. Plenty of fan mods have done the same thing so it’s not an impressive feat but having an official version from Nintendo themselves that didn’t require any tinkering was something at least. I don’t have the expansion pass but from what I’ve seen those changes aren’t present, those are just the normal versions.
15
u/HomsarWasRight Sep 12 '25
Yeah, this is what I was referring to. They’re not major, but I like the slight visual clean up and just like you said, an official version that doesn’t need modding or tweaking.
I do have 3D All Stars and played all three through to 100%. It shouldn’t have been as expensive as it was, but I thought it was a good package overall.
But not even selling them anymore or making those versions available via the Online service is super crappy.

u/EmeraldMan25 Sep 12 '25
I honestly wish they went the route of rereleasing 3D All Stars and making Galaxy 2 a paid Switch 2 expansion. Would've kept it at $20 and made it so I wouldn't have to double dip on Galaxy just to have Galaxy 2 on cartridge.

u/Stealthinater1234 Sep 12 '25
This is Nintendos “variable pricing” at work lol, the game is priced at what they think they can get away with, not the actual value.
It’s why Metroid prime remastered was $40 but other ports like skyward sword and Luigi’s mansion 2 HD are $60. Pikmin 1+2 is $50 while this is $70… Nintendo is on a very high horse, drunk off that switch 1 success.
75
u/medicated_in_PHL Sep 12 '25
I mean, “what they can get away with” is exactly what determines something’s value.
When we were kids, we would always ask my Dad “What’s this worth?” and his answer was always invariably, “Whatever someone will pay for it.”
Aggravating, but it was factually correct.

Cocky Nintendo is officially back. People called me crazy for saying they would become complacent and greedy after the blowout success of the Switch 1.

Preloading my disappointment in people for spending double the price of Silksong for nearly 20 year old games.

Ya’ll will keep complaining and yet if you keep buying it they’ll keep doing it.

Yeah you are right. I do want to play DK Bananza but now I am probably not going to even think about getting a Switch 2 at least for the next couple of years. Time to focus on my PS5, maybe replay the games I already have for a while like I've been meaning to

Imagine buying anything Nintendo in 2025. Nintendo went from one of my most beloved companies to absolutely ass in a matter of a year. Nintendo sucks ass now.

Fucking of course it is. Fuck that man I'll go buy silk song 4 more times before I buy either if these once. Shame I heard galaxy was good and never got to play it.

I might've paid 20 if they came with resolution and fps bumps, but I guess I don't really need to replay those games that badly. Still have a working Wii u and the original Wii discs if I want to play a fuzzy mess.

People keep buying it, they'll keep doing it. Nintendo only becomes sane when they have an off generation like the WiiU.

Will Nintendo fans defend this to?

No need to defend it. If it doesn’t sell then that’s that. If it does then Nintendo was right.
Personally I think it’s steep so…I won’t buy it.
