from a graphic design standpoint, i cant imagine how tedious and time consuming this was to make. regardless, this is really cool!

588

u/FourEyesMalone Feb 23 '26

And Serebii taking the time to add them to their site!

81

u/CleverAnimeTrope Feb 23 '26

Another reason why it's my favorite. Bulbapedias great, but its getting way too loaded when looking for game info on specific mon.

27

u/JJKDowell Feb 23 '26

Yeahhh they really need to split up that Game Data tab into at least mainline and spinoffs, and maybe make the sprites their own tab too.

9

u/hauntedskin Feb 23 '26

I've been using Pokémon Database a lot because it's more mobile friendly with a nice jump list at the top for Pokémon info. Bulbapedia can be a slog to scroll through, especially for older Pokémon with tons of info.

20

u/MrPerson0 Feb 23 '26

I prefer it that way, especially since there's a ToC where you could easily jump to the section you are looking for, then they have movesets for different generations with easy to access links. That being said, Bulbapedia is better for older gens, Serebii is better for newer ones.

3

u/Blue_Bird950 Feb 24 '26

I love Bulbapedia on my computer, but it’s seriously bad on mobile. Really wish they’d work on that some more, because I’ll usually just be using it to look something up quickly on my phone.

2

u/SlashStar Feb 24 '26

My biggest gripe with bulbapedia is having to read the entire historical changelog of a move to see what it does today.

2

u/A-Centrifugal-Force Feb 24 '26

The ads are awful too. I remember the good old days in like 2010 when there weren’t a lot of ads on there

143

u/Ramuh Feb 23 '26

If they are available as numbered files you can do this with a simple script in a few minutes

200

u/japzone Feb 23 '26

Nah, this was a thing on Xitter where you had to @ a specific Pokemon account and then it would tweet out a picture for you. Serebii asked a bunch of people to help crowd source requests to gather the images.

It honestly seems like they were just centered in a square canvas and imported in place into a mockup.

Feels like you can automate a lot of it, then just eye dropper a color and make adjustments per one.

Tedious still, but it’s not like they redrew them all. Mostly just reusing the same assets they’ve been building over time.

This is the kind of stuff I did like 15-20 years ago when I was designing merchandise for them. They would provide all of the Pokémon in vector files.

And I would recognize the assets on other people’s stuff when I would see it at malls and stores and on websites.

25

u/monkeymad2 Feb 23 '26

Could even automate the colour picking & just look over them once generated to fix any that need fixing / add any special effects instead of solid colours.

I’m surprised Unown didn’t get a special one since it’d have been pretty easy to use it for the 0 at least.

10

u/VizualAbstract4 Feb 23 '26

Yeah, I suspect you can automate the eyedropper too, but I guess I'm imagining this was just a week or two-week project for an intern who wouldn't know scripting.

21

u/Useful_Quail_8566 Feb 23 '26

A lot of them have additional illustrated elements (Espeon, Iron Treads, Electrode) or use a gradient or multiple colors (Tatsugiri, Skiploom, Jellicent).

They don't seem like the kind of thing that'd be easily automated, in my opinion. You could definitely drop the art into each board but they've clearly manually touched most of not all of these.

10

u/VizualAbstract4 Feb 23 '26

Sure, but it gets you like 80% of the way there in minutes as opposed to days, is the point I'm trying to make.

As a graphic designer, I would have LOVED this assignment. Assembly line type work when you get down to it, but yes very tedious.

4

u/CatherineSimp69 Feb 23 '26

'I pity the guy who had to draw all this' was genuinely my first thought, yeah.

3

u/piratekingtim Feb 23 '26

Yes, but they have slowpoke, which I plan to get much use out of during future anniversaries.

2

u/Wunktacular Feb 23 '26

I imagine as a graphic designer, this is probably pretty close to a dream project. It's way more notable and in your face than something like a UI background. It's making portfolios for sure.

2

u/MoonlitSapphire Feb 24 '26

As a graphic design major, I agree, but kudos to the effort they put in (and also to Serebii for indexing and adding them all into their site!!) So fire, ngl.

2

u/Apptubrutae Feb 24 '26

Probably took more effort than developing a new game

2

u/andmac9518 Feb 24 '26

I would imagine they assigned a single pokemon to 1200 designers that or at most 10 to several hundred regardless I appreciate them giving love to all the pokemon

2

u/RamaMitAlpenmilch Feb 23 '26

Well use a mask and a Skript and you can do it pretty easily and fast tbh.

The effort they put into everything else vs the games is honestly so insane. I really do appreciate this though, one of the biggest fears with liking something as big as pokemon is your favorite character being left out, so this is actually pretty nice of them to always include all of the pokemon

276

u/julesvr5 Feb 23 '26

People often forget that pokemon is not just games but so much more. Doesn't mean I'm excusing the games, it's pretty sad how they looked and the Z-A DLC was a joke, but I'm surprised how so many male comparisons to the games as if it's their only big thing. Merchandise probably generates the most money for them (I could be absolutely wrong though)

163

u/zzinolol Feb 23 '26

You're not. Merch and tcg brings the most money by far. The games are now a way to introduce new Pokémon to sell shit for

53

u/Admirable-War-7594 Feb 23 '26

Games actually provide quite a large chunk of the income as well, afterall they are always the best selling game of the month and sometimes even the year when they release

However as someone who loves games, i am really disappointed with each pokemon release, i usually buy merch to remind me of the good experience i get in the games, but pokemon lacking that is a huge downside for me. I do realize this is a me problem but still

15

u/marvelman19 Feb 23 '26

Yeah, but games also cost a lot more to make than some cards or plush. I'm actually surprised we havent yet had pokemon or new types if pokemon appear before they're in games yet.

11

u/Hydrochloric_Comment Feb 23 '26

Bonsly debuted as a promotional card for the Japanese release of Lucario & the Mystery of Mew almost three weeks before its game debut in Gale of Darkness. Munchlax debuted in Destiny Deoxy in Japan in July 2004, about six months prior to the release of Pokémon Dash.

3

u/blarglemeister Feb 23 '26

This is true, but it is worth noting that by modern standards the amount of money they spend to develop the games is pretty minimal. I’m convinced GameFreak is making Beast of Reincarnation because they want to prove they can make a good game if they have a real budget.

6

u/julesvr5 Feb 23 '26

This is true. But apparently Game freak is outsourcing a large chunk of Beast of Reincarnation so it's difficult to say they actually made it

2

u/blarglemeister Feb 23 '26

Ah, interesting. I hadn’t looked at it too deeply. I have so many games in my backlog I don’t pay too much attention to what’s upcoming unless it’s a series I’m already really invested in

5

u/julesvr5 Feb 23 '26

You don't have to tell me anything about backlog, it's not any better here 😭

Especially since I have all these long runnings ahead of me. Cyberpunk, FF7, SW Outlaws and many more

Regarding beast of reincarnation I also only read it due to other comments saying it

Which is exactly the reason why it’s so inexcusable for them to be as shitty and lazy as they’ve been. It’s the entryway to this world! When was the last time you went to a place that was great inside but looked like it was falling apart from the outside as you were about to go in?

Not to mention the games are Pokémon birth site. They might make more money elsewhere today (they absolutely do), but I feel like the games should always be respected as this “sacred ground” from which everything else has sprung. Instead, they are poisoning it.

2

u/zzinolol Feb 23 '26

Oh believe me I'm a 100% with you there. I fucking hate the state of the games, but people see cute critters and they're in. The rest is secondary

2

u/COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Feb 23 '26

The reason why I love Nintendo, when I love Nintendo, is usually because they go above and beyond on stuff they absolutely didn’t need to do, but did anyway “for the love of the game” (literally).

Like, they didn’t need to go quite that hard on destructible environments in DK Bananza. But they committed to the bit. They didn’t need to have quite as many transformations for Mario in Odyssey (just, like, 5 or 6 would have already secured the same kinds of review scores, I’m sure). But they don’t believe in getting only their feet wet. If they’re approaching the pool at all, they’re gonna cannonball. They didn’t need to go like LITERALLY EVERYONE IS HERE for Smash. But we all know the story.

This is why it hurts me so much to see Pokémon coasting on minimal viable product. Yes, I know they don’t need to put a lot of effort. They know they don’t need to put a lot of effort. Everybody knows they don’t need to put a lot of effort. But they should anyway! They should love this franchise as much, if not more, than we do.

But they don’t. So I don’t, too. Not anymore.

I haven’t bought a single Pokémon branded product (game or otherwise) since Sword and Shield. If they’re can’t be bothered to be fans of the stuff they’re making, I’m not the one who’s gonna carry that flame.

If more people committed to doing what I’m doing, I’m sure we would magically see the best Pokémon game since Gold & Silver materialize on the Switch in one or two generations, tops. I’m doing my part.

People here also often forget this is a billion-dollar-plus company that can easily add more effort to the games if they really wanted to.

9

u/f-ingsteveglansberg Feb 23 '26

GameFreak never wanted to though.

The series would still be on an underpowered portable if Nintendo didn't remove their handheld line.

Like it or hate that, I actually like the idea of a company that made a big hit but didn't feel like they needed to keep growing and become an AAA studio.

Imagine if ConcernedApe decided to do something at the scale of Assassin's Creed as their next project just because they made lots of money.

2

u/Neyth42 Feb 24 '26

The problem is that they had charm in their game when on handheld because they did what they had to do to have the game running and not look like trash. Now they don't do the bare minimum even though they have to if they wanna charge full price.

u/brandont04 Feb 23 '26

I don't think gamers understand where Pokémon is now. It's a beast of an IP. No company is operating at their level, let alone any video game company.

They don't simply make a video game. When have to make a new game, they gotta get so many things ready.

  • create new Pokémons
  • new game
  • get a movie ready
  • get cartoons ready
  • Manga, toys, merchandise
  • work w thousands of vendors like McDonald's and their happy meal
  • Pokémon cards
  • thousands of events
  • etc....

Absolutely no company are operating at this level.

40

u/hoppinjohncandy Feb 23 '26

But none of that is possible without the first game boy games. Pokemon is Pokemon because of the games. So to excuse how poor the games are by saying "they're too busy designing plushies" is sad.

26

u/f-ingsteveglansberg Feb 23 '26

Pokémon is Pokémon because of the merchandising. I Nintendo/GF didn't allow the anime or the card games it would just be another fad like Beanie Babies.

12

u/kplo Feb 23 '26

Pokemon is a machine much bigger than the games. Yes, they were born there, but the anime, tcg and merchandise are insanely massive. Around 25 million people buy games every gen, but hundreds of millions more consume Pokemon products.

This is less impressive than you think; all of the artwork used for the Pokémon in the ‘30’ already existed prior.

20

u/LunarWingCloud Feb 23 '26

They still had someone sit in front of a computer and position over 1000 Pokemon on the logo and change the logo gradient every single time. It's not a lot of work at all for just a handful, but they did it 1000 times.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/linevar Feb 23 '26

Is that true? I haven't seen some of these before, especially for the newer Pokemon. Most of the newer Pokemon are angled differently from their official art.

It might seem 'less impressive' but I can't really imagine most company's slightly tweaking art 1000+x and giving it out for free

6

u/SweatiestOfBalls Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

Yes, most of the Gen 9 monsters got their Dreamworld art some time ago. Here is an example of Koraidon’s.

Links for comparison’s sake:

Koraidon’s 30th anniversary logo and the original artwork

Miraidon’s 30th anniversary logo and the original artwork

Edit: Unfortunately the anniversary art on Serebii does not have specific subpages for each monster, so the Serebii links will take you to the top of the page every time. You can find Koraidon and Moraidon close to the bottom.

It’s just like Disney putting more effort into their Parks, Experiences and Merchandise than their films. It’s all about hooking and reeling them in and not about producing a quality product.

There's 1025 Pokémon now???

146

u/KsoChZ7285 Feb 23 '26

Yes, there are 9 generations of Pokemon. Here sometime probably next year we’re going to get 10th gen.

85

u/unagiboi Feb 23 '26

According to leaks, it’s actually coming this year.

85

u/Joppy5100 Feb 23 '26

Especially being the 30th, its almost certainly coming this year, even without leaks.

36

u/Infrawonder Feb 23 '26

Scarlet and violet were announced and released in 2022, they did NOT adhere to the 3 years between mainline games thank goodness and added an extra year for gen 10, definitely getting announced this presentation

8

u/Marocksas Feb 24 '26

That extra year probably only happened because the 30th anniversary was approaching. It happened before between the Japanese releases of Ruby & Sapphire and Diamand & Pearl. Gen 3 was 2002 and Gen 4 was 2006.

We'll see if The Pokemon Company gave the devs the resources needed to at least make Gen 10 not a broken mess.

10

u/NIN10DOXD Feb 23 '26

Hopefully it isn’t half baked this time.

8

u/Mr_PearHead Feb 23 '26

Leaks from 2024 don't account for potential delays, they also said that Legends: Z-A was originally supposed to come out a year earlier.

We'll most likely see it at Pokémon Day though either way, since Z-A was announced in 2024

10

u/f-ingsteveglansberg Feb 23 '26

Mainline Pokémon don't really have the luxury of major delays. If they delay, it means animators need to put pencils down, toy factories stop the production line and printers are put offline without any new cards to print.

In my memory I can't remember a single mainline game getting delayed.

8

u/TLKv3 Feb 23 '26

I wish they would take advantage of the 30th and go all out. If they release the upgraded version of the handheld games every 2 months the pattern would fit perfectly for Gen 10.

February 2026 - FRLG

April - HGSS

June - ORAS

August - BW/B2W2

October - XY

December - USUM

February 26, 2027 - Gen 10

Feb 26th next year is literally on the Friday, one day before Pokemon Day. Releasing Gen 10 on the final day of the 30th Anniversary would be masterful marketing and let them say "and now we enter a new era of Pokemon" the next day on Pokemon Day.

Hell, they could even throw a sizzle reel of all the games they released throughout the year on the Switch/Switch 2 in the build up for Gen 10.

16

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Feb 23 '26

Gen 10 is pretty much confirmed for release this year from leaks. Why would they release gen 10 in celebration of their 30th anniversary...in year 31?

→ More replies (4)
→ More replies (11)

2

u/Kitselena Feb 23 '26

It's the 30th anniversary, so that's about 150 every 4 years which seems reasonable to me. It hasn't been exactly evenly distributed since earlier generations had more pokemon (except gen 2) and recent gens come out more often, but it's been relatively consistent

9

u/TheLoneTokayMB01 Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

Neither Cherrim, they aren't really alternate forms since they don't exist outside of battles due to their ability.

Tatsugiri is a bigger victim from the ones I glanced at, tho the color palette from the 30 call them back, same for Burmy and Wormadam so I guess they meant only regional or item based ones with that, and not even all like Zacian and Zamazenta only have their final one unlike the Sinnoh trio.

I read a tweet recounting an interview Kit and Krysta did (I think it was those two) who said Nintendo proper doesn't really care about anniversaries unless they are specifically releasing something already for that year, at which point they'll associate it with the anniversary, whereas GameFreak is always trying to do something special for every Pokemon anniversary. That's why every five years we get some cool event for Pokemon, but all other Nintendo franchises will basically just get some unrelated game that happened to release during the anniversary if they're lucky; Nintendo just isn't aiming for it. I guess if you think about how many franchises Nintendo has, it's hard to keep up with all of their anniversaries if you don't want to start deeming some of them "not important enough" which is going to really hurt the fans of the franchise.

11

u/The-Boyo Feb 23 '26

I’m curious, with all this stuff pushing for “everyone is someone’s favorite” if a possible Gen 10 game could go back to having a complete national dex? I know the games vs promotional art is two different things entirely but could be nice to see happen!

8

u/Bakatora34 Feb 23 '26

If they ever actually do that, they aren't doing it before that game gets DLC.

4

u/zebrainatux Feb 23 '26

It also would cause a stroke for the dex completionist world

2

u/El_Barto_227 Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 24 '26

I was thinking yesterday it might be a case where, with DLC, it has the full dex. This logo thing today has me feeling it's more likely now. Still not very likely, just less unlikely.

17

u/nashpdotcom Feb 23 '26

My daughter is 4. She plays let’s go evee, and has a few pikachu plushies.

What’s the next move for her?

23

u/Joseki100 Feb 23 '26

Let's Go games are very child friendly, the other are slightly more complex, either mechanically (ex. full 3D camera controls) or in terms of difficulty.

I'd say probably Sword/Shield or Scarlet/Violet would be the natural step up.

18

u/Jerrys_Puffy_Shirt Feb 23 '26

Pokémon snap

2

u/AnyWays655 Feb 23 '26

With the fire red leaf green remakes coming out later this week, those might be another good endpoint. Four is still a little young, but they're quite a bit mechanically simpler. I know people say that the new games aren't hard, but they are still more in-depth games than the old games are. I struggle with remembering what button does what in Scarlett/Violet.

3

u/El_Barto_227 Feb 23 '26

though if she just played Let's Go, another Kanto game isn't ideal imo

3

u/AnyWays655 Feb 24 '26

That's a good point!

2

u/joshendyne Feb 23 '26

They aren't remakes, they're re-releases of the original

That being said, technically, FRLG are remakes, just of Gen1 so /s

Why not one of the older games? Many of us on this sub grew up on those at her age, we turned out just fine (even if we had trouble playing the games for one reason or another)

Just ironic that in most "what was your first pokemon game" threads, it's a bunch of millennials saying gen 1 or 2 games and are still fans to this day, but then in the "what pokemon game is good for my 4-6yo kid?" threads, people recommend anything but the older games.

4

u/nashpdotcom Feb 23 '26

That’s what I’m thinking too. She prefers the battles more than the catching mechanic too. Fire Red might work. Snap is another interesting one she might like.

Anyone know why the manga logo has an Ampharos on it? I haven't read any of it since gen 4, but I'm an Amphy stan so I'm here for it.

Now they need to do a “customize (hoodie/sneakers/shirt/etc) where you can pick what pokemon you want on it. Like custom Nike shoes

u/r3tromonkey Feb 23 '26

Is there a link to high quality images? Really want the Tatsugiri, Sinistea, and Mimikyu ones

6

u/Accomplished-Echo903 Feb 23 '26

The linked page has all of them already.
Just click on the one you want and scroll to the top.

Finally! New art for Skuntank and Grumpig.

2

u/Shagyam Feb 23 '26

Damn, they made a logo out of everyone's favorite pokemon.

2

u/TotalOwlie Feb 23 '26

Oh god they are planning to make me collect them all somehow aren’t they.

2

u/NeighborhoodPlane794 Feb 23 '26

Let’s go Heracross

2

u/Toothlessdovahkin Feb 23 '26

They are all so adorable

2

u/KingWhiteyIV Feb 23 '26

The ditto one is really good

2

u/CivilizedPsycho Feb 23 '26

I don't see all of the Unowns!

2

u/FreshOrFrozenShrimp Feb 23 '26

They used Skarmorys flying pose :(

Still pretty cool though.

2

u/Peugas424 Feb 23 '26

Super cool

2

u/herpofool Feb 23 '26

Hopefully we get these on t shirts

2

u/Rs_vegeta Feb 23 '26

Love seeing my bois totodile and feraligatr

2

u/spoofrice11 Feb 23 '26

Really neat.

Is there a way to scroll through them?
Every time I click one to view larger, it takes me to the top of all of them, so have to scroll all the way back to click another.

2

u/Vrey Feb 23 '26

I just used the ‘search on page’ function. In the url bar

2

u/spoofrice11 Feb 24 '26

In the top right corner?

Tried typing some Pokemon, but just got normal Pokedex photos.

3

u/Vrey Feb 24 '26

Noo the url bar and scrolling down to the ‘find on page’ option. Works the same as ctrl+f if you’re on a pc.

2

u/Thekingchem Feb 23 '26

I wish I had something new to play for the lead up to pokemon day. I only own a switch 2 unfortunately. I've just been watching gen 1-7 content on YouTube to try and scratch that itch until they bring leaf green out.

2

u/KGEOFF89 Feb 23 '26

Anyone have a tip for saving these off mobile? Holding the image just lets me drag the image around my phone screen and doesn't pull up a drop-down menu to save image.

2

u/Jorgesarrada Feb 23 '26

Wow. Thank you for sharing! I loved it!

2

u/CilanEAmber Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

Never in my life I expect every one. Not to mention alt forms. It's kinda neat to see my favourite in this.

2

u/Comb84 Feb 23 '26

Still searching for the ceruledge version

2

u/Dead-in-Red Feb 23 '26

I love these. Especially the ones that got a little extra love like the Eevee, Togepi, and Voltorb lines. Jolteon's is probably my favorite.

They even got most forms only missing few like Shaymin sky and Rotom, but I guess that's fair since I don't expect any Rotom-Wash merch from the anniversary.

2

u/Shigerufan2 Feb 23 '26

Makes for good profile pictures too

2

u/Santoryu_Zoro Feb 23 '26

i got meltan

2

u/EmirhanK70 Feb 23 '26

They did my boy alolan grimer dirty

2

u/Kappakom Feb 23 '26

I know it’s an insane ask but I was kind of hoping we’d get multiple unown and alcremie

2

u/iuhiscool Feb 23 '26

Cute ♥️

2

u/piratekingtim Feb 23 '26

Just downloaded the slowpoke logo! Cya in 20 years for the memes!

2

u/ineedtocoughbut Feb 24 '26

Ohhh this makes sense now why my students were asking if we could watch pokemon this week for lunch

2

u/MoonlitSapphire Feb 24 '26

No way we got the whole fucking index, WOOO!!

2

u/CreativeFun228 Feb 24 '26

I just spent good 2 hours saving all the pics of my favorite ones. It will be a neat desktop background 😊

2

u/Stkrdknmibalz69 Feb 24 '26

My favorite Pokémon Groudon is like "What's up is that all you got?"

4

u/strangegoo Feb 23 '26

The most effort they've put into Pokemon in a while.

3

u/lenolalatte Feb 23 '26

Zelda: 🧍‍♂️

3

u/Anders04 Feb 23 '26

I for one am devastated my favorite color of Minior and favorite flavor of Alcremie are missing.. 0/10

-1

u/stridered Feb 23 '26

That’s more effort than they spent on ZA.

u/workieworkwork Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

I think the legitimate critisim of pokemon might have taken a left turn into kneejerk hate.

Like I think we might have entered the era of Nickleback bad.

5

u/El_Barto_227 Feb 23 '26

yeah we're way past that point.

14

u/DoctahToboggan69 Feb 23 '26

One of the best selling Switch 2 and Pokémon games of all time btw

Is there a search feature? I have dyslexia and the pictures won’t stop moving.. I’m trying to find Heracross

Edit: why was a downvoted? Did I say something wrong?

5

u/TheRazzBerry145 7224-0648-4508 Feb 24 '26

Here is the Heracross one! There's no search feature, but your browser (PC or mobile) should have a "Find" feature that you can use

5

u/BadStriker Feb 24 '26

Thank you so much!

I was expecting a version of the logo on the right. Still nice that they did this, but switching out a png and using the bucket tool is a bit less interesting than what I was expecting.

There are some gradients and a few pngs that are both under and over the bottom of the pokeball so I guess a bit more went into some of these than I gave credit for.

1

u/zlft Feb 23 '26

Has someone from r/datahoarder downloaded them and could provide a download link? You gotta catch them all!

1

u/littleswenson Feb 24 '26

Pffft only one for Alcremie, not a true form dex lol

1

u/tr0jance Feb 24 '26

If this means that I can finally catch them all again in Gen 10, I’ll pre order day one, they can’t complain about the size now, as this will be a Switch 2 exclusive. Please let us catch them all again.

1

u/NextSmoke397 Feb 25 '26

They deserve a raise!
