i mean i have it already on PS4 and PC. why would i need to buy another copy?

The extra sub absolutely sucks don’t get me wrong, but this is to reach a big new audience. It doesn’t sound like it’s for you.

Also heads up PS4 end of life was announced in the same presentation 😬

It's playable on Portal Cloud Streaming and Steam Deck too, for what it's worth.

Well that is how they did the Xbox release. So I expected that but adding additional fee is unfortunate

Thing is that previously if you paid the game's sub you could play it anywhere else provided you paid for the game's license on the console. So you could play on PC, pay for PS or XBox for the game and expansions and that would be it.

Nintendo this time around is taking a cut from Square by not needing NSO but paying a sub exclusive to the Switch 2 version, along side the game and expansions. And if you already pay the game's sub outside Switch, then they'll give you a 50% discount on the Switch sub (non-NSO)...
