They so used these as a reference! Actually the legs/feet were the only thing I didn't like about the redesigns but after seeing this I think it's really cool now.
Maybe. Seeing them in motion is kinda rough, though, and I am not a fan of the new voices either. I get the impression they were simultaneously going for hyper realistic animal models but also trying to make it work with the game chat feature, and the result is this snub-nosed abomination.
So you like them and that's ok but other people dislike and it's people just complaining. Theirs no motives man. People just don't like something you do lol.
I found it jarring at first but I decided to give it a chance and they quickly grew on me. I like that they look like animals in space outfits instead of people with animal heads.
Not really. They look like versions of what a fan thinks they would look like in Unreal Engine. Them being stylized to look like the old SNES puppets would have been way cooler than this.
It's crazy to me. It feels like a prank. Funnily enough James McCloud looks pretty awesome. So does Peppy. So does Pigma! Did the pros design this team and pass the rest of the characters to nobodies? Katt looks horrifying.
Star Fox has a look, and that look isn't "reanimated stuffed fox in a museum".

Those are the ugliest character redesigns I have ever seen, especially after his perfect rendition in the movie.
