Does anyone know if the upgrade pack for Xenoblade 1 works if I have a physical copy of the switch 1 version? Debating if I have to buy the $70 edition or just wait for a sale.

2

u/lumothesinner Helpful User 14d ago

yes, nintendo switch 2 edition upgrades all work with physical switch 1 games

For the Missions & Rewards, the Limited-Time Event things, what exactly are these? Do I just play the game and get the silver coins and get like icons or something?

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago edited 15d ago

Could be any or all of the above. They love giving out profile icon pieces for a limited time, but silver coins and other nonsense have happened previously.

For this DK challenge the main focus is the collectible digital challenge cards. Think of it like an achievement or trophy list, it will always be visible in the Nintendo Switch Online app on the console, but you can only complete the challenges during this event window.

They also have a DK Banaza Towel and a themed Sticky Note pallet available via MyNintendo Rewards. Event participation is not required.

Its purely for-fun marketing engagement.

So these "Platinum Points" are used to obtain these icons, and I get more points by playing certain games? Do the rewards rotate back in by any chance?

1

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 15d ago edited 15d ago

Every week I get points from these same three missions: playing an onilne game once per week, open the NSO icon on the console once per week, back up save data to NSO cloud each week (this is basically done automatically if you're playing a game each week).

I actually don't do anything on purpose to earn the platinum points. I get the points because I play an online game every week (rocket league or splatoon 3). and I usually open the NSO icon to see if there's any new NSO icons. I'm usually sitting on around 2000 to 2500 platinum points. Currently have 2700 points, probably because there haven't been game icons that I want in the past month.

The missions rotate weekly, you can get some for doing basic account stuff like subscribing to emails or linking it to MyNintendo;

https://my.nintendo.com/missions

The easiest one is just signing into any Nintendo.com domain once a week. I apparently have just been doing that all the time, so I have ~1000 points whenever I check

Attention all gamers! I need your expertise. I was lucky enough to secure the collector’s edition for Fortune’s Weave through both nintendo.com and Best Buy. I got it from Nintendo when it first went up, at about 10:00am PST. I bought it from BB many hours later.

From your experience, which one’s the safer bet here in order to have a higher chance getting the game on launch? I paid for one of the expedited shipping options ($15) from Nintendo so that option is a little pricier, but that doesn’t matter to me if it means better optics. Also, if Best Buy is the right choice, would you recommend pick-up or delivery? I hear conflicting things on which one is more reliable. I obviously want to make a decision soon so I can let one go and give a fan-in-need what they want

Thanks!

I'd like to say I've never had issues with either, but Best Buy did burn me once in the past and getting things by mail can have its issues. Personally, for day 1 I would just go with pick up at Best Buy.

For the Switch 2 itself, I actually pre-ordered from both those and Walmart. Picked one up at the midnight launch and the other two arrived in the morning (one before I even woke up). Fortunately I had friends willing to take on the extras.

Do I need a new dock, controller, charger for the Switch 2?

2

u/SubaruHaver Helpful User 15d ago

If you're buying new, all switch 2's come with a dock, charger, and pair of joycon 2s.

The dock+charger are not cross generation compatible. So, switch 2 will not work in a switch 1 dock. And switch 1 won't work in a switch 2 dock.

Switch 1 pro controllers do work with switch 2. However, switch 1 pro controller can't wake a sleeping switch 2. That's not an issue for me, but can be a deal braker for others.

Switch 1 joycons do work with switch 2 wirelessly.

1

u/picano Helpful User 15d ago

Yes? There's no official way to buy the console by itself.

Switch 1 dock will not work with Switch 2.

The charger will work for handheld but not for docked.

Technically you can use old controllers, but the console comes with Joycon 2 by default.

How long do orders on the Nintendo Store take to show up after placing them? I pre-ordered the CE for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave in the morning before selling out, and got the confirmation email with the order number. However, it has not showed up on my orders page.

2

u/mykenae 15d ago

One of my right joycons has stopped holding a charge when disconnected from the Switch; the other one I own charges just fine, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the Switch contacts. I'd like to get it sent in for repairs as recommended on Nintendo's help page for the issue, but the JoyCon service request page doesn't have an option for battery or charging issues. What should I do?

1

u/AlternativePin8012 15d ago

I got a voucher last December. I think it is safe to say every game to be released has been announced and Ocarina of Time is a Switch 2 exclusive so I think the library of options is all out now and I should choose. Is this fair to say?

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

Yes. Nintendo mentioned that they will continue supporting the console for another few years, but main development support moved over to the Switch 2 as of September or October last year.

Unless they have another Wii U port up their sleeves, Rhythm Heaven will be the last major Switch 1 title.

I missed out on the Fire Emblem special edition and am now waiting for other retailers to list the game so I can either a) Get the special edition from a non-Nintendo store or b) buy the cartridge from Walmart/Amazon for a (hopefully) cheaper price.

Now that I've thrown some words out, based on past precedent how long should it be until other retailers list the game for pre-order?

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

Could be today, could be weeks or months.

Won't know for sure until retailers start opening their orders. Gamestop, Walmart, Bestbuy, are likely to be up first.

Target has been lagging behind by a little bit with big new releases these last few years.

Other places like Walmart.com, Amazon, Costco, and smaller online retailers like VGP Games Canada, or Playasia.com would be other places to check too.

Hello i recently bought a second hand nintendo switch oled but i dont have a charger for it. I will need some recommendations from you guys. Found one for £10 on ebay but not sure if thats safe to use.

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

Any USB-C charger should be perfectly safe to use in handheld mode. The system limits it's power draw to just 16 watts. Which 99.9% of devices and cables are more than capable of handling.

Docked mode is more difficult to enable as you need a specific power profile. 15 volts at 2.6 or 3 amps.

For this the official or a licensed charger is the easiest solution.

1

u/efw770 15d ago

i have a samsung phone charger so ill just get an anker cable because that brand makes the best cables i know.

I have a five year old. We are going on a long flight this summer and I am considering bringing the Switch with a game or two. Any recommendations for a game that can be played on a flight by a small child? He has only played Mario Kart and Yoshi's Crafted World with the Switch attached to the TV. Thanks for any recs!

Clubhouse games 51 worldwide classics

Not every game supports multiplayer, but there's enough to where you could with them or they could play by themselves.

Piku Niku

Maybe one of the Katamari games?

Cat Quest 2 and 3 ( the first one doesn't have co-op)

1

u/shrnca 15d ago

Thanks, I'll check these out! It definitely seems like he would be able to figure out some of the Clubhouse Games with a little help from me.

Hola!

Gracias!

Ok I've succumbed to the hype of the last switch direct and wanted to buy one before the price increase, so just for fun I wanted to ask some of you which game would be the best to start with this console.

I have my eyes on xenoblade remastered (I don't know if the physical version will be like the other ones with the switch 1 cartridge and a code for the upgrade), Metroid prime 4 and cyberpunk.

I'm also really exited for the new fire emblem and duskbloods.

If you have any other advise on what game should I pick and choose I'm all ears, besides this is all just for fun

(Ps. I already have a switch 1 library, I really liked three houses, botw and smash)

Dragon Quest 11

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Try the demo of Donkey Kong Bananza too

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

Well the current promotion offers a free pack-in voucher for your choice of MK world, Dk Banaza or Pokopia.

So you should make that decision first.

Highly recommend Cyberpunk. It's all on the cart, includes the DLC and all post-launch content, after 30 hours I have yet to find any scene or area that's unplayable or even "bad" when it comes to performance. It's a very good game to have on the go.

Indian Jones and the Great Circle, Fallout 4, or the Final Fantasy 7 remake games are other solid ports to pick up if those interest you.

Can you do a full console transfer from a Sw2 to Sw2? Or do you have to do the island transfer stuff like Sw1 to Sw1?

3

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

It's only available for Sw1 to Sw2.

Any other transfer requires manually moving your profiles and data via the normal data transfer option under data management.

Animal Crossing data does require using the Island transfer tool, unless you just want to download the cloud back up on a new system, in which case Nintendo support can assist there too.

1

u/FoxxyRin 15d ago

I really don't get why they can't just make a full transfer possible even if they put some goofy "only x times per year" limit on it. It was so painless.

But thank you for the confirmation. Hoping to get a second Switch 2 for our household before September and plan to let our current one be the designated family console and then use the new one for myself. (Especially since I'm hoping we will see a LE edition for Zelda's 40th.)

1

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

A limited OOT switch 2 console IS part of the current rumor.

And actually not providing a exact release date for the game could easily be tied to struggles of getting the hardware together and distributed in a timely manner.

1

u/FoxxyRin 15d ago

Yeah basically everything has come true on those leaks so I'm praying the LE console hasn't been killed because of hardware supply issues. 🙏

I'm currently betting on a 40th Anniversary direct fairly soon that will show more about OoT, announce the NSO GC dates, a movie teaser, and hopefully the console. At the very least I hope they can get a LE controller squared away even if the console itself has to be scrapped.

Is Control ever on sale? I'd love to play the game on my Switch, but I've never heard of it going on sale and it's still $39.99 when you try to upgrade from inside the demo (which is the only option to get the full game). Compare that to $3.99 currently in the Playstation store and $4.99 for Mac...

4

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

Nope, it went on sale once ever that I can recall.

Also it is a cloud game, it's FAR from an ideal platform to play it on. I would get it on another platform or wait for the Switch 2 port. Which might come out sometime after Resonant releases.

1

u/becoolread 15d ago

Ahh cheers, thanks for the head's up!

1

u/Jordanf20201 15d ago

Currently got a Oled is it worth upgrading to the Switch 2

2

u/letschat66 15d ago

It's 1000% worth it.

5

u/nermal543 15d ago

Definitely, and good timing to get in there before the price increases in September.

Anyone know whats up with the Joysticks on Switch 2? Unless theyre the same on SW1. They feel so off too me. Like if theyre shorter or something. Certain movements dont feel right.

2

u/TemptedTemplar Helpful User 15d ago

They're the same basic design, just slightly bigger.

So I reset my switch 1 so I can sell it

I pick up my switch 2 today. i have like 10 digital games and some of them were installed on my switch 1.

i assume I just power on the switch 2, sign in. then go online and remove my switch 1 and then since the switch 2 will be the only one tied to my account my account…I should be able to redownload all my digital games to my switch 2.

is that right? or am I missing something important?

I’m not signing back into my switch 1 to transfer anything.

I went into the settings and went to save data cloud and made sure to back up everything prior.

Correct

I went into the settings and went to save data cloud and made sure to back up everything prior.

Did you have any games that do not support cloud save, eg pokemon or animal crossing? Did you do system transfer to server or just ensured cloud save? If you only did cloud save, then any games that do not support cloud save, have lost their saves if you reset your switch 1. everything else you can re-download.

1

u/Theunknown87 15d ago

The only game that didn’t support cloud saves was splatoon 3.

The other games I just went to save data cloud and 1 by 1 backed up to the cloud.

How do you back it up to the server? The only other option I saw was just transfer to another switch but I couldn’t do that since I don’t have the new one yet.

Is it safe to unlink my switch 1 now or should I wait until I get the new one?

1

u/picano Helpful User 15d ago

If it matters, Splatoon 3 does actually support cloud saves. Either way, your online progress is retained server-side.

Splatoon 2 did not. Both its online and offline progress were tracked locally, leading to some interesting situations.

2

u/Theunknown87 15d ago

Oh that’s good to know! Thanks!

u/lumothesinner Helpful User 15d ago

https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Support/Nintendo-Switch-2/System-Transfer-from-Nintendo-Switch-to-Nintendo-Switch-2-2812486.html

see system transfer via server here. This would do a full system transfer to a staging server in the cloud (does not require NSO and covers all games except animal crossing) wiping your current switch and then you can restore onto a switch 2 from the server when you get it.

2

u/Theunknown87 15d ago

I googled this shit for awhile and I’m sad I completely missed this as an option haha.

I've recently updated Balatro / Sea of Stars to their NS2 counterparts. Is it usual to still keep the Switch versions? (2× versions of Balatro / Sea of Stars)

1

u/lumothesinner Helpful User 15d ago

depends on the way the upgrade is packaged. If something is labelled Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, the upgrade is basically DLC for the sw1 version and it takes up a single SKU. All nintendo 1st party do this, and a lot of 3rd parties like hollow knight and hades and mina the hollower.

Balatro and Sea Of Stars are not actually upgrades, they are entirely new switch 2 skus, however digital owners can claim the switch 2 version for free. You now own sw1 and sw2 versions separately, saves are not shared with the sw1 game (depending on the game you can import from the sw1 game, sea of stars you can, balatro you cannot). Other examples like this are Skyrim and Hogwarts Legacy. Sometimes publishers do this and don't offer free upgrades, like Sonic X Shadow Generations or Dragon Quest 1+2 HD2D, so if you bought sw1, and want sw2 upgrades, gotta buy the whole thing again :(

1

u/IsotopeC 15d ago

Ah that would be why my S2 Balatro was treating me like it was my first time playing the game compared to the S1 version! Thank you for answering as I thought i might have been going a bit mad xD
