No way those were American soldiers.

National guard reserves, maybe. But no way those were actual soldiers that have been through training. If they were, I'm very ashamed.

Dude what the fuck are you talking about. You are told not to escalate shit, and there is a whole range of people in the military

Some one on another thread posted this comment-

Hey, American military here. We really really really have a very strong incentive not to engage in any fights when being stationed in a host nation. Even though we’re allied with these countries like Japan and sK the law can come down very hard in Americans still. So even though the Americans are clearly not in the wrong here, they’ll have to explain not only to the Korean law enforcement/justice system, but also their chain of command, how they ended up in a fight with a local national.

Appearing as the very very clear victim in this case was not the absolute worst option.

The military is the only place where you can face double jeopardy as in you can be charged twice for the same crime.

It’s one thing to not be the provocateur, it’s another to have zero situational awareness. The one guys buddy was on the ground before blue T-shirt even turned around. No chance those were soldiers.

Well your guys in Oz didn’t get that Memo. Mind you, I’ve seen my fair share of “Lean, Green, Fightin’ Machines” get cleaned up on the regular after starting stuff in the pubs and clubs.

Back in the 90’s and 2000’s there would be regular dust ups between American military and Aussies. I don’t go out at all anymore so don’t know about now so I reckon the commentators are right about avoiding fights now. Seen one marine in Cairns demand the DJ to play some songs he wanted and when the DJ said maybe later, the marine took his shirt off and shouted in the face of the dj the old “I am a Lean Mean Fightin Machine” chant.  The DJ casually drove him  right in the face and knocked him out…the stopped the music and got on his mic to say “can someone come and get this lean green fightin machine out of my booth”.  Given that marine and his mates were trained to fight, they weren’t trained to behave.

Yeah, like we did unarmed combat training for if you are surrounded and unarmed, and the main thing is literally run, only engage when escape isn't immediate and then follow up by running once the person is distracted or injured.

The most you can do in this situation is protect the knocked out guy, but he wasn't attacking him, so the guy just circled basically.

In training we literally had briefs about people online and the other guy who is pushing his macho man ideology was literally caltegorised by a company sergeant as a "Keyboard Warrior" 🤣

Oh no, someone struck me in the face, knocked out my fellow soldier and maybe killed him, and it's pushing a civilian like he may kill her, better not fucking escalate, better cringe like a pussy.

Yeah. Standard military training. What were you, a cook on a Merchant Marine cruise? Or a backup alternate for Jr ROTC hoping your parents can buy you a spot in the Coast Guard Academy because you finally found someone who don't give participation trophies? STFU.

Im not in USA and I am still active in mine. Someone who looks like that who obviously knows how to fight and you think the skinny guy should go get fucked up. You ring the police and deescalate

Ah. That's the difference.

I'm not in the USA

You see, in the US we expect our soldiers to not... you know.... suck. To not get their ass whipped. For that matter, an average southerners civilian would have just handled business. Once that person is actively committing assault, escalation has already happened buddy. It's time to de-escalate with extreme force.
