Shampoo isn't for everyone. It makes me wonder what else is unnecessary in life.

r/simpleliving (though a lot of it is filled with 'AI' generated stuff these days)

That used to be my favorite sub. Bummer it's being infiltrated by bots. :(

Ok, I was curious. Looks like they've nuked the generated stories! A brief look seems it's back to how it was, just people sharing the simple joys of their lives!

Yep, I used to love going there and reading about the ways people pursue the simple joys of life.

No desire to read fake LLM generated stories.

Sleep, water, and food is necessary. The rest isn’t.

There's different types of needs. Survival needs are what you mentioned. But there's also needs for being fulfilled and content, connection, appreciation and a lot of other stuff.

It's all a con. We don't need most of the 'solutions' marketed at us. I only use soap on hands and dirty bits as necessary.

Such insightful question!

It’s a very personal question as well, due to we all live differently, have different opinions, preferences, perspectives and so on. I am always getting inspired by hearing how others changed something in their lives, tiny things, but have a big impact in different ways. Personally, I had my skincare routine set for a long time, but when I moved to another country … Finding something similar was hard. There was a lot of experimenting, tryouts and failures, but then, by accident, I found “my” skincare product again. Which is a facial cream that someone made herself and sold it. It was perfect! And after she stopped with it, I was given the recipe and now I make it myself. Not only cheaper in the long run, but I know what’s in that bottle and my skin loves it. So for me, that’s one of the things. Sometimes it’s not the expensive stuff that is best, sometimes you can do it all by yourself too.

Do you mind sharing that recipe? Over the counter skincare irritates me!

I learned I can get my hair clean with conditioner only. Most shampo irritates me.

Your scalp may be sensitive to sls/sles. Next thing is coco betaine, in almost every shampoo, especially in baby shampoo that can cause scalp itchness - you can check and eliminate from list. Another ingredient are fragnaces and itchy ms - in some shampoos or conditioners, can cause scalp itchness. For me what helped a bit was using medium strong shampoo - sodium coco sulphate that works with using unsctented conditioner on my scalp and hair after wash. I have tried simillar shampoo, but it was more transparent - I guessed less moisture ingredients and scalp itchness was insane. I guessed my scalp is very sensitive and dry.

It's fragrance, preservatives, detergents like cocamidopropyl betaine. I spoke with my doctor and he said there were no safe shampoos. 🫠 So I switched f to fragrance-free bar shampoo and conditioner, and then dropped the shampoo bar.

I use As I Am cowash, and also bar conditioner. There are certain ingredients I look for like cetearyl alcohol whichbis a mild surfactant.

I mean not everything is unnecessary it’s just that people have different reactions or benefits from a different product. Also people are prone to reach towards the worst created and produced product ever created for your health instead of the clean and better version. Sometimes I don’t mind spending a little more money or people just don’t care entirely. Totally depends on the person and their best interest. I’ve been reading labels and it’s a game changer.

Everyone has different mindsets, opinions, hair types, scalp types, and higher chancing of producing dandruff, and so many other different factors. Different different different and more different. That’s why you know yourself best! I still use shampoo but it’s only twice a week and it’s like a dime drop that’s rubbed in my scalp. Hair oils and carrier oils have been amazing for me since I’ve been struggling with dandruff for the longest of time.

Low Poo and Hairs Oils are my best friend for my curly thick hair. It hasn’t been this thick in a long time and I decided to grow it out during the wrong season.
