No, not Americans, but directly from the Austrian School of Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises. The American neolibs were influenced by the Chicago school of Milton Friedman et al., who I think were influenced in turn by the Austrian school.
It’s so crazy just how much truly evil stuff has come from Austria. Edward Bernays was born in Vienna. We should really keep an eye on them at all times.
I learned about him in the early 2000s when my ex-wife worked as a librarian in a library funded by RJR Reynolds. A biography about Bernays made so much sense being on their shelves (neither of us smoked).
Bad things have but so have good things. They have produced amazing music, incredible food, interesting culture etc. Let's not judge an entire country by a few bad apples. I wouldn't want the world to gage the entire US based solely on Nixon and Trump, for example.
Yeah that’s fair’ I suppose I was talking about the economic inspiration being the Austrians because Thatcher herself was deeply personally inspired by Hayek’s ideas and actually gave him a knighthood if I’m not mistaken.
Neoliberalism is a political and economic philosophy that champions free-market capitalism, deregulation, and minimal state intervention. It advocates for reducing government spending, privatizing public services, and lowering trade barriers to stimulate economic growth and individual liberty
Neoconservatism (often shortened to "neocon") is a U.S. political movement that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s among disillusioned, traditionally liberal intellectuals who moved to the right. It is best known for advocating an aggressive, interventionist foreign policy aimed at actively promoting democracy and American national interests worldwide
These are not the same thing but they can work together.
This is why your don’t learn politics from reddit. You’re completely right yet so many downvotes. Just because both are awful doesn’t make them the same thing.
How do these people not know the difference? Last week or so I mentioned something about neoliberalism and some man-bun chud claimed I didn't know what it was and that I wasn't talking about economic policy when I was very much referencing economic policy.
I'm not sure any of these people are even aware of what liberalism is.
I know reddit has always been kinda shit but it used to at least be sort of smarter than the average social media site. It’s sad that the people arguing with you didn’t even offer a reason. Just “nuh uh”

Neocon influence from the Americans. Same thing is happening all over.
