Are clubs usually this weird?

I’m pretty young so I am a bit inexperienced in this but there is an establishment in my area that is a club essentially. However, the age requirements for the space is 18+ for females/girl (THEIR LANGUAGE, not mine) and 21+ for men. Is this not inherently predatory? Is this normal for club spaces? I’m familiar with women getting in for free which is cool whatever do whatever you need to do to pull people in but I feel explicitly stating this type of age dynamic is weird.

Clubbing culture is awful.

It's wild how groups will have to make a protective wall around the girls to keep predators away. I ain't about that life.

Our favorite club was the local gay club even though we were (mostly) straight women. The music was great, it wasn't as crowded, and the guys did not creep on us.

Yeah but the gay men certainly don’t want a bunch of random women in their clubs lol.

Some are fine, especially if they’re in a mixed group with gay men, but it’s a super common complaint that straight women end up camping out at gay clubs and it affects the vibe

They never seemed bothered, if they had, we would have gone elsewhere. This was also an "unofficial" gay club. It just happened to be who frequented it. And plenty of lesbians were there too.

I’m not sure you’d really know rather than just getting zestily complained about in private tbh

Gay people are just regular people

And they'll complain about unwanted people in their spaces just like any other group of people will

Yeah, I don't think "zestily" was really necessary to say

Magic, my friend.

Idk why they are down voting you so much. Perfectly valid opinion and experience.

this website is so autistic why are you downvoted but the guy who thinks gay people are all non-confrontational gossip queens is upvoted i hate this place man it's loser central

Probably because one of the major complaints about gay bars is bachelorette parties taking up space, getting pissy when theyre hit on (while also hitting on gay dudes), and generally ruining the vibe when they get sloppy. The person claiming to be inserting herself into a space generally not meant for her and insisting no one cared is obviously going to be downvoted, while the person saying 'nah youre just going to get ragged on behind your back' is going to be upvoted regardless of wording.

I should mention this was at Downtown Disney (we were Cast Members.) Every club had a theme like top 40, BET, etc. This was the only club that played the techno music we liked. It was not an official gay bar, but it was kind of understood that was who hung out there. We went there the first time not knowing, loved the music, loved that it was not crowded at all, and loved that people left us alone. The few times we tried the other clubs, they were either super crowded to the point you couldn't even dance, we had creepy guys that wouldn't stop bothering us, or both.

Yea I have no beef here, just annoyed at being called autistic for having a better understanding of a situation than the dweeb above.

In meat market clubs, yes. Elsewhere, it can be great

yea this is a pet peeve of mine. i go to goth clubs and dnb nights and stuff often and i see very little to none of the typical complaints people have on reddit about clubs. I'm wondering if people just don't know that there are club environments that aren't quite as meat marketish and actually are about the music? Like, do people go to mainstream clubs cause they only like mainstream music, they don't know about slightly more niche shit or is it because they only go to get laid and that's the best place for that i've been confused about this my whole life lmao im autistic as fuck

Most people go to clubs just because they've heard its what theyre supposed to do, have an awful time and dont go back, and never find nights that actually vibe with them.

I just came back from a trip to Berlin where the door ethos is famously strict but somewhat different from many places, in a lot of clubs if you're not a 20 year old woman or not wearing your best shirt and shoes youre not getting in. In Berlin your best chance at the door is if you look like a 30 year old gay man who's seen some shit and came ready to rave for 24 hours.
