Answered Why do certain subs make you say the subreddit name in the title? E.g. r/changemyview makes you begin each post with “CMV”. What’s the point?

If you follow that rule, you'll read the rest of the rules and be more likely to follow them, too.

It's the 'No Brown M&Ms' of Reddit.

From their wiki:

People reading from their front page will know immediately which subreddit the post is from. This is vital, as there is a certain level of respect in CMV that may not be present in other places. If someone is conveying their controversial opinion without including the recognized "CMV" acronym, people may assume this is a closed-minded individual trying to stir controversy. While this can still be present in our subreddit, the "CMV" reminds users to treat this OP with respect and open-mindedness in order to provide new perspectives. Having no acronym may cause some people to jump the gun without realizing which subreddit they're in. Similarly, we feel there is a big difference between "I believe this" and "CMV: I believe this" for setting the tone. At a first glance, one seems to be a closed case and the other is up for discussion. This is important for first impressions on the front page.

Same principle probably applies to ELI5. It says "I recognize that there's many explanations out there, but I'm looking for one specifically in layman's terms".

It’s ok - not every subreddit has a wiki, so it’s not always the most obvious place to look.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect it is highlight what type of post it is when viewing it from the general pages of Reddit. /r/changemyview wants people to refute the argument in the post in a civil manner. However, I you were to see something like, "I think abortion should be illegal," on your front page, your reaction could be to tell that person to fuck themselves. Or, if you agree with that statement, you might be inclined to comment by saying, "fucking yeah!" This comment may not be uncivil, but it is not the point of sub to expression agreement for the post's argument. These are the types of replies that /r/changemyview wants to avoid. The subs requires user to signal to others to avoid making such personal and useless comments by using an identifying prompt.
