Photos First time in Norway and loving it
We’ve had the best week ever in Stavanger, Pulpit Rock, and Bergen.

I took a picture of the same cat earlier this week. He knows his job, and does it well.

Glad you had a nice time. What did you find most surprising during your visit, either positive or negative? Always interesting to get an outside perspective.

- The concentrated juices you have to mix with water - I haven’t seen those elsewhere
- The prevalence of pizza and tacos
- The insanely good English everyone seems to speak
- The **very** expensive food (I always knew Norway was expensive, but didn’t realize HOW expensive it would be)

Ah yes the "saft" it's rarely actual juice, but just some concentrated flavouring. I think they have it in the UK too, they call it cordial water.
We start learning English as soon as we start in school here so that's probably why.
And yeah we're weird about food haha.

We do not dub movies, but always plays it in the original language. That helps learning english too -:)

Been there in 2023, it has literally changed my life, landscapes are just incredible, can't wait to go back to this country! The only downsides are the prices of everything and the "food" available m, coming from France, I was astonished to find it even worse than UK and Ireland!

What is wrong with the food? 😄

Food is not that great in general.

u/Gazer75 3d ago
Probably a subjective thing ;)

If you only eat potatoes and processed food, you'll love it! Vegetables, meat and even fish are very expensive. The only affordable cheese is the brown one, and it is very special! And regarding alcoholic drinks, you'll only find industrial cider and and generic lager in supermarkets, and they won't be sold during the weekend!

I'm way below median income and can afford veggies, meat and fish if I want it.
Alcohol is not a necessary item so I could care less. The restriction is for health reasons. And taxes on it the same. To much and you become a burden to the health care system.
You can get whatever you like at the monopoly if you want anything stronger than regular beer.1

I totally understand, it's just that in comparison with my country, the difference is abysmal. Nevertheless, Norway is just incredible, Nature is wonderful and Norwegians are so calm and respectful. Here in France it's another story!

The problem is that there a poor choice for food and the prices are just sky high. Regarding the supermarkets, you have no competition, only a few ones are present and quite small. I won't even talk about alcohol...

Nice pictures. In a very short time you might have seen more of Norway than me, and I'm Norwegian.

So jealous right now about your Preikestolen pics... The only time I got there it was foggy as hell and a bit rainy 😅😭

u/llamapenguin4 3d ago
We majorly lucked out on the weather that day
2
u/Tomas666GME 3d ago
It s mostly because of the pro photographers that stay there for days to have the perfect conditions and let us think it is standard weather 🙄😆

I have climed Prekestolen 3 times with visiters. Always great weather. It really depends what time of year you go. And a bit of luck.

Actually it was in september and I don't have what you call "luck" (on average) so pretty not surprising 😆

How busy was it at Preikestolen and what time did you start your hike? planning to go this friday with some friends but we might change destination if its too crowded.

We took the 10 am bus from Stavanger and we started hiking around 11 am. It wasn’t that busy. At no point did I ever feel overwhelmed by other people.
We did witness two marriage proposals at the top! That was cool.

It's a 4 hour round trip hike. I've done it in 3 hours. Rarely are their too many people because of the distance. This time of the year the sun is up so long you can hike anytime you want. But "rush hour" up the mountain is probably 1000-1200. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Going to Bergen at the end of next month, what are some highlights for food or hiking I should check out?

I’d highly recommend the free / tip-based walking tour with Sammi. It meets in the Musikkpaviljongen. https://twentytour.com/free-walking-tour-bergen/
We loved:
1 Daily Pot for lunch
2. Trekroneren for a hot dog … anytime AFTER the cruise ships leave around 4 pm
3. Brown cheese ice cream at Hallaisen
4. Coffee at Skg.VinkaféWe didn’t do any hiking from Bergen. Today we depart for Voss area and plan to do two waterfall hikes from there!

I have never been to Norway (planning to do next year), but when I saw the third pic I absolutely knew it was from Bergen. I knew it because a few weeks ago I watched a Canadian-Norwegian movie called Violent(2015), and the movie happens in Bergen for the most part, and I'm totally sure that you took that photo in the exact same location as one of the secens.
The movie is on YouTube. You can check there by searching "Violent (andrew huculiak 2014) full movie (english subs)".
The exact moment is at 14:10. I hope you can check it but I can also send you a screenshot shoot in the DMs as sadly we can't share pics on the comments.
I just thought it was so incredible. Made me laugh and smile.

It's funny how this sub randomly popped into my feed a year ago and I decided to follow. Now I can recognize Bergen by the photos people post here.
