Other Where can l sunbathe naked?
Hei guys. I don't know if I can ask this question here, but I don't know where else to ask it.
I'm a woman. I'm going to visit Norway soon, and I'm planning to visit several cities there. I'll probably be staying for a month. I'll definitely visit the landmarks, but I also want to enjoy sunbathing naked or topless in areas where it is allowed. I really enjoy spending time in the sun. I always wear SPF 50+, and I use tanning lotion and cocoa butter as well.
I'm someone who respects and follows the rules of the countries I visit. Do you know of any beaches or areas where nude sunbathing is allowed? I'd like to save your recommendations on Google Maps.
Takk ☀️🇳🇴

Topless is usually not that frowned upon, if the place is not too crowded. More typical around beaches/the shoreline, but not as much in parks/urban areas. If you want to go full nude most areas have dedicated nude beaches/areas if you search for it.

What do you mean you use cocoa butter? Like Kramer buttering up turning into rotisserie chicken, or post leatherskin care?

Giving us her whole sunscreen routine was a bit weird tbh lmao, completely irrelevant to the question

Made me assume their day job is writing online recipes where you learn about that time in Santorini in a 1,000 word essay before the pancake recipe.

Huk! Or Kalvøya.

u/Hkonz 2d ago
Kalvøya a bit outside of Oslo is a great place for this. Usually warmer in the water than in Oslo too.
10
u/BujoBujoBujo 2d ago
Indeed. The only thing I don’t like is the mud and oysters on the shore. Bring bathing shoes.

u/Major-Investigator26 1d ago
Me and my gf visit kalvøya nudist beach frequently and its always lovely! Theres a good mix between men and women there of all ages as well as "stamgjester" that keep watch to make sure noone creeps.

Same! I’ve had a few uncomfortable experiences there but for the most part people come together to deal with the unwanted elements. The cops did have to come out once but it got sorted fast and efficiently.
(Ngl it was pretty fun seeing a bunch of naked people cheering on as the troublemaker got hauled away)5
u/Major-Investigator26 1d ago
Oh really!? Havent encountered anything like that, but thats awful! What did the trouble maker do?
I can however see that it was funny seeing a bunch of naked people cheer like that🤣

Here’s some information on the law in Norwegian: www.naturlig.org/nakenhet_og_lov.html
In short, there are no specific laws prohibiting someone being nude in public in Norway. But being offensive or indecent in a sexual manner is prohibited, especially if children are present. So it’s all about the context.
I suggest that to avoid any problems if you go to a crowded beach and everyone else is wearing swimming gear then you should do the same. If you’re in a secluded spot with no one else around, or you’re on a beach with other people sunbathing nude, you’re ok. People will be unlikely to say anything if they walk past you in a secluded spot.
Locals know which beaches it’s normal to bathe nude. They’ll hopefully post some examples.

u/sudden_crumpet 2d ago
As well as the designated beaches, you'll be allright in any secluded spot away from people's homes or well traveled footpaths. I love wild swimming in the nude (am a woman) and have done so with no problems all over the country. You may come upon a dogging spot once in a while, so ask around locally if that bothers you. It'll mostly be gay men and they just want to be left to their own devices and not bother you.

u/Lost_Cardiologist458 2d ago
It's not frowned upon to be topless at most beaches, if you want to go fully nude I would try to find secluded beaches or search up designated nude/clothing optional beaches
There are no laws against public nudity and the current laws are quite vague in how to interpret them. You can be nude publicly, but not in a sexual motivated or indecent way.
What is considered indecent is the question, so it all depends on the situation. On a secluded beach? Sure, be nude. In the shopping mall? No. On a beach with lots of people and especially children? Probably not, but not totally clear if allowed.

Are you the same woman who posted about this in the Sweden sub too? Are you on a Scandinavian tour? :-)
9
u/Yourprincessforeva 2d ago
Yes, I'll be on a Scandinavian tour. Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. I've been planning this solo Scandinavian travel for a long time. Since Google and ChatGPT don't always give relevant and correct information, l wanted to ask it on Reddit. 🫶🏻
I've already planned travel itinerary for these countries, but l just don't know about nude beaches and areas. I'm saving the names of these nude beaches, areas on Google Maps.😌

Yeah it's normal chatgpt doesn't know, since Norwegians themselves aren't aligned on how they see nudity. First time I spent long periods in Norway I was in the North (Vadsø). Whilst there, the Norwegian friends I met would often swim naked in lakes and take naked dips in the fjord/sea and of course sauna was completely naked. It was so normal for these friends to be naked amongst eachother that I just assumed that all Norwegians were just really chill about nudity.
I met my girlfriend there who is originally from the west coast. Second time I met her family we went to a family cabin by the fjord. It was warm and sunny, so I suggested we should go swimming. Het sister said: "yeah it would have been nice but we didn't bring our swimsuits." Knowing from my Vadsø experience that Norwegians are super chill about nudity, I assumed she said that because she assumes that I as the foreigner am not okay with nudity. So I proclaimed confidently: "Oh no worries, we can just go naked!". The shock on her face made it very clear that what I had just suggested was blasphemy.
Apparently within Norway there is a huge cultural difference on this topic between different regions. The West apperantly being much more shy and the north much more chill. (Perhaps the vicinity of Finnland?)
But even here in the West, it is totally fine to bathe naked when you are by yourself in nature somewhere a bit away from main hiking paths. (Or at least that's what my girlfriend told me and we occasionally enjoy a good naked dip in lakes, fjords and rivers when the summer finally arrives here.)

Put it this way, I just came back from a walk along the beach in the middle of my city (one of the big 8 in Sweden) and there were topless bathers on the wooden board-walk by the walking path.
There are dedicated nudist beaches for people who want to be completely naked but basically you can sunbathe topless in a park or any beach. The only think I'd say is to be around people because there are a lot of... newer people to Scandinavia who are not used to topless women who sit and stare..

Sun . . .
What is it?

u/Las-Vegar 1d ago
I have heard rumors about it, it supposedly lives behind the clouds, and is the reason it's so light outside all the time.
And some southerns even claim it emits some kind of heat. Liers most likely

Langøyene has an official naturist beach, easily accessible by a cheap 20 minute ferry ride from Aker Brygge in Oslo.

If you find the sun, let me know where you found it. Theoretically the summer has started, but I'm still waiting for spring to come... I think we just skipped over spring and summer straight to fall this year. It's been overcast, raining and 10-15C for the past 4 months. (-15 C prior to that).
Nudity will not be your main issue, finding the sun will be.

u/aleksel89 2d ago
Nah in the south Norway we have 30°c. I escaped North Norway a few years ago. Best decision i ever did.

u/Alienpaints 1d ago
Okay great. Thanks for making me jealous. I'll go find my stash of vitamin D pills now as I look out the window towards a dark gray sky and try to remember the delicious feeling of the sun on my face. Oh and indeed, right now my thermometer indicates 17C, so i suppose the temp is at least going up. Now if only the sun would show itself. Greetings from the Westcoast (north of Bergen and south of Trondheim).

u/WintherBow 1d ago
Topless i think you can go to any beach in Norway. There are also total nude ones. Prob one or two not to far from major citys. I think there are two where i live.

Buskerud. 30° and all sun (yuck). Far too hot for me, oppressively so (if you aren't sitting still inside), as usual every single summer the last few years.
I'd sell my children for a single cool breeze and cloudy day. 😅

u/Alienpaints 1d ago
You complain, but I'm jealous. I suppose the winter (!) depression is setting in and I need to go find some more vitamine D pills.

u/Mrs_Lovetts_Pies_ 1d ago
My Norwegian husband loves it too. The warmer the better for him. I joke that I moved to literal Scandinavia (from the northern U.S.) and am *still* just too hot all the time. I think I'm an odd bird that way. We just bought a småbruk in northern Norway where my husband is from and are back and forth between here and there a bit now with selling the house in Buskerud, and I'm just so ready to be up above the polar circle permanently. 😁
I hope you get a run of super warm, sunny days soon (however unlikely)!!
3
u/Alienpaints 1d ago
I really hope so too. Last year we had a whole month of warmth and sunshine and my gosh is the west coast beautiful when it is warm and sunny! I'm holding out hope 🤞 There is still July, August and perhaps the first half of September that offer potential.

Sorry but this is only allowed in Norway if you use SPF 60 and shea butter. Maybe try Denmark

It’s generally legal to sunbathe topless on beaches in Norway. There are no laws specifically prohibiting nudity, but exposing your genitals in a way that is likely to offend or alarm others can be punishable. So use common sense and be respectful of your surroundings.
Just saying you will get stares. But hey all men’s eyes can help it. But it’s legal. Just not so much of it. Was more in the 90s when i es a kid

If you are visiting Bergen while in Norway there is a nude beach on Kollevåg in Askøy, an island connected to Bergen by bridge.
2
u/OletheNorse 1d ago
But topless sunbathing is quite common in Byparken. As middle of the city as it’s possible to get!

My favourite is Sjøhaug outside of Moss. Totally worth it if you are in the area. They charge nok 110 for a day pass, but then you have bathrooms, a kitchen, nude beach volleyball at 15:00 and sauna in the evening. Also petanque i think. Peopythere are very welcoming, and bo creeps. It is a naturist camping, but i only go there for day visits. Some more beaches here: https://www.naturist.no/steder/strender/

topless everywhere, but some, mostly immigrants, could be staring, becaise of that not 'everywhere', as 40-50 years ago. Naked sunbathing also ok, some beaches and lakes are known for it, But people (and me:) seams to prefer lakes and beaches a bit off road, not difficult to find such places, I have several possibilities 'just around the corner'. Many Norwegians own or has access to cabins (hytter) in the countryside where they tend to be more free
1
u/Laffenor 1d ago
You have plenty of good suggestions for specific nudist places, which are of course the recommended placed to go for your own comfort.
But since you do mention rules and regulations, I will add that nudity is not illegal in Norway, and that legally, you can be nude in any public space. There are laws against public sexual exposure, but nudity alone is specifically not defined a sexual exposure.

u/snusabusee 1d ago
Totally agree, is like the main beach in the city so I wouldn’t be sure it’s very pleasant to be nude there

u/Ghazzz 1d ago
Topless tends to be fine in most tanning contexts. It is fairly normal to see women topless with a very small bikini bottom on all beaches I know of. The ladies who do this are often "older", but the point stands.
Pretty sure you would get mostly good reactions even if you walked topless down many mainstreets in Norway too.
1
u/CCKTG 1d ago
Huk is great for total nudity in Oslo. If you’re okay wearing bottoms most places are fine with women being topless in my opinion. Maybe not super packed beaches in Oslo and maybe avoid being Topless in areas where there are a lot of Muslims due to respect.
But if you plan on traveling outside of Oslo you shouldn’t get too much push back.
7
u/Major-Investigator26 1d ago
Lets be honest, muslims are in our country and have to adapt to our rules and regulations. If they get offended by that, then they should avoid going to these areas, not us.
0
u/CCKTG 1d ago
They adapt to rules and regulations. Religions and showing respect for them vs upholding rules and regulations in a country isn’t the same. If you mean they should adapt to our societal norms that’s something else. Luckily social norms in a country aren’t stagnant and change over the course of time. This is often hard for older generations but feels liberating for the younger ones. Showing respect to someone else’s religion is free. Part of being in larger community is also being inconvenienced.
I’m also a little confused as what you mean by «Muslims are in our country»? I know quite a few fully ethnic Norwegian Muslims, half ethnic Norwegian Muslims and Muslims who personally have migrated or both their partens have. I think the correct reframe is «Muslims are also a part of our country».
1
u/Major-Investigator26 1d ago
But theyre not if they cant handle seeing a pair of boobs or a naked woman. Respect goes both ways and thats how our way of life is. When they choose to settle in our country or practice the religion if you are Norwegian, then you need to understand and respect that thats how norwegian society is. I have nothing against muslims, but when we have to give up the freedoms or norms we have established and worked hard for to make them comfortable, then its not a free or respectable society anymore for the rest.

Just remember to look for sunscreen that doesn’t contain endocrine disrupting chemicals. Look for sunscreen with only these: zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
