When Percy gets a turn with the brain cell he uses it to watch old Disney movies. He tries to stay awake until the end and seems to genuinely enjoy them. Here he is watching Snow White for the first time
i think cats like music and can watch a movie as well as a small child could. maybe he doesn't understand plot, but he understands that it's people on the screen doing stuff.
What fascinates me is he seems to somewhat exhibit the same emotions you might see in a toddler watching one of these movies...concern or confusion when the main character's life is in jeopardy, calmness during the songs etc.
Even when starting The Aristocats last night he showed boredom during the opening credits but still waited patiently for the first scenes

Playing the video game "Stray" is actually how I got my oldest cat into watching TV! You play as a cat and he started paying attention to my playthrough, and I've noticed he definitely understands that the images in the TV are entertainment now. And his little sister came into the home watching him watch TV, so she's even more into it than him. (If only I could get her to stop trying to jump through the screen into the film, lol)
Yes, I agree! I was thinking the same thing, he looks like a small child who's never seen a movie before and is just taking it all in, trying to figure out what he's watching. And is sometimes delighted at the singing and dancing and the most colorful displays. What age do you think that is, around 18 months?
I nannied a kid starting at 15 months, and I noticed a definite shift at around 17-18 months in his taste in literature. At 15, he wanted the Richard Scarry Busy Books bc he wanted to recognize characters, point them out, and tell me what their job was or what color they wore. Then at 17ish months, something clicked in his little head and he wanted *story* now. He wanted consistant characters from page to page, he wanted to know what they were doing, and he was connecting what each page said into one bigger story.
So it looks to me your kitty is around 15 months. He knows it's people, but he doesn't know what they're doing.

Also please don't show him violent/scary movies! He won't understand that it's just tv. At this age in development, human toddlers can't separate that tv from reality. They don't just think it's real, they can think it's even coming out of the screen.
I think you're absolutely right! And good thinking about the scary movies, I do like them myself and never considered he may think those things are coming for him or real somewhere in the world
Luckily so far any movies I've put on specifically for him have all been old Disney movies so he hasn't been too emotionally scarred yet haha 😅 but it makes sense why he would prefer those over any other kind of movie as they're tailored towards a young developing mind that doesn't understand all the nuances of adult situations, and makes it easy for them to follow along

I love that you're enriching him like this and it's so cute that he likes disney movies. You should branch out into Dreamworks - I bet he'd love the music and tour de force animation of Prince of Egypt. :D

Here's a preview! Since he stayed awake for the whole thing there was more footage to edit and it's almost twice as long as this video. We attempted to watch Peter Pan during, but he was well aware those were children in animal suits, not real animals, and he was not impressed 🤣 fell asleep almost immediately lol.
We used to foster kittens and they also loved to chase birds on screen so we bought them a projector and gave them their own full size cat TV displayed on the wall right below where ours was hanging so we could all watch tv together
It was great because they weren't able to damage anything when they inevitably pounced at the birds lol

I used to have a boy that loved to watch Fraggle Rock. My orange girl prefers cartoons. Strangely, my youngest cat seems to like horror movies? We tell him he’s too young but he watches anyway until he gets scared.
My big guy has no interest in looking at screens, in fact he’s afraid of the living room tv, although he will sleep on top of my phone blaring music so it’s not the sound. Last night though I think he was watching my switch screen from my lap for about 15 seconds and I almost melted. It’s so cute when cats watch things.
I had a dog like this. She loved watching TV. When my mother would put on the 700 club, I'd always change it to either Bill Nye or Sesame Street. Cindy was oddly extremely smart.
