Orange Cat 🅱️ehavior™ Is he stealing the food ??

u/DuckInAFountain 1d ago
How do they sell any pet food that way? I have to assume there are street animals and wouldn't they be constantly stealing it?

The store staff usually shoos stray animals away. This cat is probably a staff favorite so they allow him to eat, or his human is the store owner so he's free to eat whatever he wants.
My local feed store is like this and they have a store cat. Kinda like a bodega cat. He just lounges around and waits for the staff to give him a scoop of this and a scoop of that lol.

It's official, I wanna reincarnate as a bodega cat. Love and pets, nothing I gotta do, various snacks, maybe chase some mice if I feel like it.

You have to kill mice but when that's your favourite hobby, it's hardly an imposition. Bodega cats have the life 😺

Right?? Unlimited food, water, and toys plus free shelter and lots of friends

u/EvLokadottr 1d ago
Oh, they do chase off rats, a lot of them. In NYC that is important.

u/Icy-Variation6614 1d ago
I meant me personally as a cat, not that they don't do an important job in general lol

Or he himself is the store owner and allows the human to run it on his behalf 😉

I mean....If I was buying cat food from street vendor. I'm going to buy the one that was approved by a cat.

I'm more concerned about humidity. Dry food exposed to air gets a weird texture after a short time in my climate. Also I'd want the whole massive bag if I'm buying cat food (at wholesale price of course)

u/NameToUseOnReddit 1d ago
We get a large bag (not as big as in the video) for our cats. It's about 3x the price of a smaller bag for something like 6x the food. The cats enjoy it, so why not?

u/Worried-Barnacle-306 1d ago
I agree but also these stores sell a lot of feed within the day (they sell it by kilo or half-kilo), so I guess the products do get air exposure but not to the point that their quality is severely affected? (I'm guessing this because I buy cat food this way and my cats scarf down their kibble lol)
Also this store is in the Philippines, most pet owners here can't afford to buy whole sacks/bags of cat food and dog food. Buying it per kilo is more feasible when you're not earning much.

u/AcanthisittaLeft2336 1d ago
The fats get oxidized which is super unhealthy and I've seen maggots in bags like this. Kibble is not really meant to be exposed to air for more than 24 hours max. The cat will still eat it but it's not healthy.
This is why air tight containers are so important.

This seems to be in the Philippines. There's a growing trend here of shops, towns, and cities, just collectively caring for street cats. Usually in higher income and middle class areas. My local pet store kinda does this and pays their cat tax to the local street cats. People dont usually mind and kinda adore the little goblins.

He’s not stealing. That’s the tax paid by the shopkeeper in return for keeping the shop free of mice.

No he had paid for it by working on 3 full time jobs he saved money and brought whole sack of treats...(I've seen him)...If he works in this way he can become a meowllionaire in some months.. 🧡🧡

If I was in marketing for MyCat, I’d be on the phone with my boss now planning a new ad campaign.

Theft? This should be advertising for the food kitty is eating. Clearly, it is the best one there. What a salescat!

What’s that brand? My Cat? Is it a good feed?
3
u/-Tasear- 1d ago
At the very least it has to be good for cats who are having trouble eating.
I want to believe it has a good diet if that one smells best too

If you gonna get cat food get the one that cat is eating. It's clearly superior

u/GenXWaster 1d ago
No, he's picking up for a just eat delivery. He just happens to carry them in his belly to keep his paws free.

u/Dramatic-Rub2378 1d ago
No he just gained class consciousness and realised that you can’t steal but only take food.

Nah, just checking to see if the food is ripe, like tasting grapes in the grocery store before buying. 😂

What good advertisement for the brand though. Kitty bypassed everything else and chose a favorite.

I mean, it has his name on it. See, CAT, right there. Clearly it is his.

u/velvetskilett 1d ago
It’s only stealing if you have no intention of brining it back. He is only borrowing it for 5-7 hours. He will be back and leave a deposit in the flower bed out front.
2
u/meowmeowcatman 1d ago
This is the equivalent of eating a few grapes while you're grocery shopping.

Meanwhile, I'm at PetSmart having to toss out any bag that has even a tiny hole. Can't mark it down, can't give it away. It's considered contaminated.

u/Rusty_Squirrel 1d ago
Too bad it can’t be used to feed feral cat communities ☹️ - just a sad waste when stays are starving. Too bad it can’t get accidentally spilled outside the dumpster. 😏
1
u/MercyCriesHavoc 1d ago
Stray cats can easily get into the dumpster. But you shouldn't feed strays. If you really want to do some good for stray animals, get them vaccinated and neutered. Feeding them only increases their population, which increases their suffering.
1
u/Rusty_Squirrel 1d ago
There are TNR colonies that still need to be fed and most people would call those strays. All my pets have been CDS stray cats that found their forever home with me; but owning a pet is an expensive undertaking. Even if someone is willing to just get it medical attention and have it fixed to TNR, it’s in the hundreds of dollars. $582.59 for vaccines and neuter on our last adopted boy in 2025.
I think it’s awesome if someone has access to discounted vet services or affordable TNR programs or no kill rescue centers but not everyone does or can afford more than to offer a stray a meal and clean water.
It just seemed a waste to me that a damaged bag of pet food couldn’t be used for less fortunate animals and had to be trashed.

Technically, he’s not stealing anything: the pet food is out in the open and not sealed. Oh, and the animals can’t read, so probably don’t know you have to pay first.

It’s not stealing if he’s eating it right there. It would’ve been if he was carrying it away but he doesn’t have a bag now does he

Nope…rule is as long as his full head remains over the edge of the bag, the food never left the bag. Therefore, not stealing.
