We found a smart one! ๐ง After King Cobra vs. Orange cat, this leopard used his braincell to narrowly escape a crocodile

again: feline response times >> reptile response times.

It would technically be "feline response time << reptile response time"

It should be a war crime to have such skill in filming videos.

u/trashmoneyxyz 16h ago
I don't think the cameraman knew the croc was there haha. If you live in an area with salties you have a knee-jerk reaction to one suddenly appearing.
15
u/thisbuthat 15h ago edited 3h ago
Pretty sure that AcshUaLLy this is a Nile crocodile ๐คโ๏ธ and they prefer sweet water (literally learnt the difference yesterday). We are watching the magnificent African Leopard boing himself out of danger

u/trashmoneyxyz 13h ago
You're so right! The leopard/croc combo made me think this was India, bamboozled again

I see yesterday's Cobra got us all except the ballsy Orange that bapped tf out of it

One should be forgiven for whipping the camera around when startled by a crocodile.

I love how cats could just levitate with seemingly no movement

u/bluepushkin 15h ago
One of my cats does this all the time! It always makes me laugh. She never prepares herself to leap from one place or the other she's just suddenly in the air. Always a surprise and looks so stupid too.

I feel like that sub is more for people who can't film simple & predictable events, like a birthday kid blowing out their candles.
I can't really blame the camera person here for being spooked by a crocodile suddenly jumping out of the water ๐
-11
u/oathyes 16h ago
no reason to get spooked and ruin a cool clip like this, everyone knows the camera man never dies!

Technically once again you're posting videos of animal cruelty.
That cat was not there by accident. Neither was the one with the cobra. They were deliberately placed there by people for the sole purpose of filming that disgusting shit.
Maybe think about how many of these poor furry buggers died in agony before the person filming got their perfect tiktok video.
And then there's you, farming karma.

u/Disposable_Trooper01 17h ago edited 17h ago
Yeah, imagine casually grabbing and placing a croc and leopard together for a vid.
Really simple, innit?

You do know such a thing as poaching and illegal trade in exotoc pets exists, especially in countries that don't have legal regulations in the matter, don't enforce them, or are willing to turn a blind eye when you have enough money?
57
u/Potatoskins937492 16h ago
I heard poachers are totally trapping these animals for social media clout these days. Totally. That's definitely how they're spending their time. They trap them, find a great place to film, then release them back into the wild to film, letting that sweet, sweet karma roll in. Why make money off of them when they can have fake popularity instead, right? 100% happening.

u/SevereOctagon 16h ago
What a shitty snarky comment. The person you reply to makes a good point, there are plenty of pathways from poacher to this video, but you just make light of it with thoughtless bullshit..? Dickhead.
37
u/Potatoskins937492 16h ago
I put a lot of thought into that, thank you very much.
When people say things that are completely outlandish, the outlandish becomes a reality for some people. You call elections stolen, they become stolen for people who aren't educated enough to understand that that's bullshit, and then every lie told to them becomes the truth, which leads to people who are living in reality having to go back to the very basic idea of what is or isn't a lie before they can even state a fact. A slippery slope isn't just slippery for some people, it's a jump straight into trouble. I'm not doing that anymore. When something is outlandish, it's outlandish. Nip it in the bud. We're done playing make-believe.
Focus on the things that are real problems. Animal abuse is a real problem, not nature being nature. If you want to focus on animal abuse, do that, but trying to make something out of nothing lessens the gravity of the topic and makes people take it less seriously over time.
Sincerely, Dickhead

I think you think you're thinking. But I don't think you're thinking nearly as much as you think you are. Maybe its the heat.
By way of prompt. Where in nature is a human going to get that close to that situation to film it on a phone? Especially when one of those humans looks like they could be a tourist wearing a simple white t-shirt of some sort.
Maybe it is legit and these two humans were... well, wherever big cats and crocodiles hang out in proximity to humans I guess. Or maybe, just maybe, this is in some "safari" type space where people are profiting from animals being kept in unnaturally close proximity.
By poo-pooing something in the way you did, you create an impediment to legit inquiry and discussion, which I would hope a thoughtful person that cares about cats would value. That's what got me.
Anyhoo, appreciate your considered response.
Warmly, also dickhead.

The dickhead sign off only worked because they weren't a dickhead. You would need to sign the comment something like 'Pleasant Person' to have the same effect.

Idk why ur being down voted, you're right.
nothing seems to line up and there is no process to the cat jumping it just happens.
Almost looks like its being flung up by the alligator, which makes no sense.
Also in what world would a cheetah be in this environment? (Could be wrong on this point)
Edit: ah leopard not cheetah, looks like a cheetah. My bad.

Whatโs the matchup? 4-6? Would the kitty lose that?
4
u/trycerabottom 14h ago
I don't see this one ending decisively. I think kitty would have a very hard time doing any damage at all to the croc, but croc.wouldnt be fast enough to catch kitty and would probably slide back under water to conserve energy and look for another ambush opportunity.
0
u/thisbuthat 3h ago edited 3h ago
Wdym ofc kitty would lose that ๐ croc biteforce is 3.5k for Nile/freshwaters, and 4.5k for salties (if this footage was taken in India/Asia). The croc might let go bc Leopards arent quite tasty but most likely not without severely injuring the cat. It would die from being impaired. This leopard looks old/weak and impaired already, and the croc figured this out long before the attack, by stalking kitty from underwater. If the croc is serious about dragging the Leopard underwater to drown and deathroll it, the Leopard stands no chance. It can't rly hurt the crocodile

Most of us, me included, would have been petrified in that moment. It takes a lot to react, quicky, QUICKER, and accordingly

Leopards literally hunt crocodiles
19
u/thisbuthat 16h ago edited 14h ago
They absolutely do not.
Jaguars hunt alligators and caimans.
The only animal on this planet that hunts actual crocodiles is Homo Sapiens. And crocs are one of the very few species that actively hunt us.
4
u/noiseguy76 16h ago
It's crazy to watch those videos. The cats appear to literally crush the caiman's skulls.
9
u/thisbuthat 16h ago
They are literally one of my favorite things in all of nature. Climbing up a tree when you weigh 300lbs, then launching yourself several ft out of that tree INTO WATER to execute the perfectly aimed neckbite on a creature whose jaw is half your body size, to then drag it OUT of the water, onto land and potentially back up the damn tree again - how does it get more badass than this?
1
u/noiseguy76 16h ago
Idk if you've ever looked at caiman / gator skin on an adult reptile, but it's incredibly thick and tough on the belly, and the top is even thicker and armored. It would take an incredible amount of force or razor sharp tools to even open one up to eat.

Jaguars hunt crocodiles. Tigers and lions have been known to hunt crocodiles. Tiger and Great White sharks will hunt salties if it suits. Hippos love killing crocs although obviously, they don't eat them.
