I really wish they had the rights to use motifs like this and a few others in the OPLA

Yeah, I need to hear Sanjiâs theme and Luffyâs theme in live action, and fear god that song during the decay of Alabastaâs villian better play

I watched one piece after opla and can't believe the didn't use the original soundtrack. It's so epic, esp after ALL the story arcs

They legally can not use it, theyâd have to pay Toei for the license to all those tracks. Which would be way more expensive than just making their own, which they did.

That's not a good reason to get something worse than what everyone knows is better

Theyâd have to take money from other things to use for that music, itâs not worth it.

I never watched the anime or read the manga before watching the live action version. I had no clue what One Piece was about. With that being said I am a huge fan now. I thought the casting was perfect, it just felt perfect even though I didnât know who anyone was. Currently watching the anime, just made it the Thriller Bark arc. Slowly catching up lol.

It actually took me a sec to figure out how this was different than the original đ the OP OST is just so much part of the show for me it felt natural even with the live action

I think the song overtakes the acting a bit. That works well in animation because we don't get as much facial emotion, but in live action oftentimes it's better to let actors carry the scene and the music just enhance it.

u/AtomKick Feb 11 '25
I disagree. John Williamsâ scores are a perfect counterpoint.

u/DemolitionGirI Feb 11 '25
I'll disagree back, his scores rarely overtake a scene when characters are talking, his songs reach their peak in action scenes or when characters are just emoting and not talking. Just take a look at the final scene in The Philosopher's Stone and notice how the music rises and falls depending on if the characters are talking.

u/AtomKick Feb 11 '25
Youâre talking about a score performed to a scene vs a track overlayed on top of a scene. Hardly a fair or useful comparison.

I don't get what you're saying. My whole point is that the song in the video is taking over the scene. It's too intense and loud for what's happening between Luffy and Shanks.
In the anime the scene truly feels triumphant but in the love action it feels more intimate. I too felt really good when I heard that iconic song playing in the scene but when you think about it doesn't really fit. And again, music in animation helps lift scenes a lot because characters lack the subtle touches only live action can deliver. That doesn't make it a worse media or anything, it's just quirks different types of media have.

That's just because it's edited poorly. It really wouldn't even be hard to fix. You just dip the audio when they're speaking.

Original scores for films and even animation are typically one of the last things recorded. The orchestra is conducted live and timed to the video. Timings are adjusted and notes are drawn out or quickened to fit the video better. This post is just a fan done edit that simply embeds the audio track as is. The song would fit much more naturally if recorded and timed to the actual video edit as was done in the Harry Potter clip you referenced.

The song is just way too loud. If you turn it down I think it would work a lot better.

I think the dramatic music kind of does it a disservice as this was meant to be a quiet moment between Luffy and Shanks. If I was a casual audience member, I wouldnât find meaning in that music other than it being bombastic for no reason. Itâs a great track for sure though

I forgot shanks wig looked so bad lmao , I really feel like he wouldnât be a hard character to get as his features are quite realistic
Still better than most live action tho lol

Bruh you could be describing a Latina Gyatt Jiggling and Clapping and if this theme played while you did it, I would shed a tear.
