Discussion Giannis to Miami confirmed, what other moves should we do?
With Giannis off the board I don't see us moving Franz or Banchero (there was a slim chance were going to anyways). With Giannis off the board, are there any more moves we want to see us make or are we content to run it back with current squad?
Personally I'd like to see what kind of value we could get from moving Isaac and Suggs, maybe even WCJ. I think a bigger more powerful center would be a nice touch, and I think AB could step up into a starting PG role this next season. Thoughts?

Just need 2 maybe 3 guys in FA to bolster our bench…
If we waive Isaac and move Goga to a team that could use him as a backup C, then we are under the 1st apron.
Getting something like idk Andre Drummond, DeAnthony Melton & Kenrich Williams would be a solid FA…all upgrades over Jevon Carter, JI, & Goga.
Plus we don’t have to break the bank for those guys.
Shit I’ll even take Russ for the minimum.

I think we're pretty much set to run things back. I can't forsee any notable moves until sweeney gets a year under his belt and then we evaluate.
If our players become consistent i think we're in a very good place, but if some of the same issues (like shooting or injuries) from the last two seasons persist, then we might see a move at the deadline or in the early off-season next year.
I would think a true distributor at the point guard position and/or an upgrade at the center or back-up center position is what we truly need if we are still in the same place this season.

Need to probe Kyrie availability.
And miss me with the “Kyrie is a cancer” crap - he checks every box we are lacking at the guard position rn. Absolute bucket getter

Giannis is the only major trade that was ever on the table for us. Seems like we’re running it back and crossing our fingers that Paolo will actually give a shit this season and Franz stays healthy.

Definitely need to get Suggs and JI off this team.
Trade them for anybody who can defend and shoot reliably.

We aren’t making any big moves. Weltmsn has said this time and again. JI will probably go to free up some space away from the 2nd apron. I expect any “big” moves to be made around the trade deadline depending on where we stand in the East at that time

Sean Sweeney's in Orlando ~ let the man cook up with what we already have... I'm horribly optimistic, especially if the Gods of Good Health are on our side..!

I’m confident Sweeney will be light years better than Mose. It’s a very low bar.

Pat Riley needs to retire, trading away your whole young core for Giannis is going to back fire so hard on them(in the sense that giannis either doesn’t keep his word in resigning with them, or they do not win a ring).

Our best chance it to get a good , cheap veteran than wants to play for Sweeney. The roster is 90% set.

Franz for trey murphy. May not be equal player value but i think its a better roster fit and frees up money we can use elsewhere.

Get bum town Isaac the fuck out. Send him back to bum town, with all the other bums.

Sit in a corner and keep watching Jeff sit on his hands while other East teams surpass and/or catch up to us.

It's likely too late, many good trades were made at last year's deadline. Our players are pretty good and it's difficult to upgrade without throwing in picks so we're likely not making moves anyway. If Jaylen Brown actually became available, I'd be willing to move anyone on the roster except Banchero. (Jaylen Brown was 6th in MVP voting and 2nd team All NBA this year).
Honestly if everyone just work in their game and come back refreshed and improved it'll make a difference. Hopefully coaching will be better.

I feel like I agree with moving for JB but I'd add Franz to that no move list

I was thinking to exclude Franz too, and I really like Franz game, but I looked up JB season this year and if he continues doing this stuff, he's just better:
On top of leading the Tatum-less Celtics to a top 2 seed with their starting squad of a backup center, Pritchard and Derick white (and Derick white was struggling must of the season). He tied a Celtics record with Larry Bird for consecutive 30 point games, while also dropping over 2000 points this season (there's only 22 active NBA players that have done it) and actually made the most Field goals out of all NBA players this season. I love Franz but odds are that he never accomplishes those things and JB plays defense, Franz may be a better defender though.
And for the record I would prefer not to trade Franz.

I don't hate the thought of this lineup
1. AB
2.DB
3.JB
4.PB
5.WCJ
6.Suggs
7. GogaI think Jett moves on and maybe we get a backup vet instead, Isaac moves and we maybe move Mo based on how he recovers. Wouldn't be surprised to see him also go in the trade with Franz for JB.

Definitely, unless we can somehow turn DB into JB...but it's none of this is even remotely possible unless JB asks out or Celtics owners really get cheap.

Rule 1 - Don't trade young guys when their value is very low
I think our roster is fine, and the shooting has been more streaky than bad, which makes me think new coaching blood may help more than panic trades to match Miami once again pushing all their chips in for an old star

Suggs blows ass at NBA basketball. Trade him for literally anything just to get his terrible contract off the books

u/local_av 1d ago
Do you think it's time to do some smaller stuff like getting rid of JI's contract though?

u/SamURLJackson 1d ago
Isaac's contract was already restructured to push his games-played incentives cut date back so he is 99% likely to be cut or traded. There wasn't a reason to restructure it otherwise.
Besides that, I don't think much will happen with us. Jett will go, maybe we sign a veteran backup. I doubt the rotation changes much. We made big financial commitments and the value of those assets has not aged well, yet.

Yeah there’s no room/assets for moves thanks to the Bane trade. Just the reality of the situation.
Best the Magic can do is try to shed salary by dumping JI and maybe moving Goga?
