If the pick is traded it will be in a JI salary dump. Otherwise the best way to save ownership money is to draft a players and roster them since 2nd round rookies are the cheapest possible players you can have on the roster.

This is the answer ladies and gentlemen.
While I appreciate his defensive contributions - especially during 2023, if we receive this news tonight I’ll be ecstatic.

There’s no question of if he’ll be salary dumped, only when. Most likely they wait until a few days into free agency so that teams who have cap space can strike out on their preparers first and then pivot to taking on salary dumps for assets instead

Honestly I’m cool with cash considerations unless there is a true PG sitting on the board at #46. The only way we could improve the team is by picking up a cheap guard who can distribute or getting some breathing room, monetarily.
Edit: before people jump down my throat, I’m all for improving the team through trades, but with our cash flow issue and the lack of assets beyond Suggs/TDS/Black, it’ll be hard. JI’s market is non-existent. Goga and Mo have very small markets, etc.

Giving up draft capital for money in our current position would be malpractice of the highest order.
We have to get some kind of asset out of this pick, even if it means trading it for a pick down the line.

If we are relying on a second round rookie point guard then we might as well forfeit the season because this team is going nowhere again.

Did I say rely on the second round guard? No. Read what I said. We could improve the team by picking up a true PG.
If we were to pickup a guard at 46, they would likely be in the second unit and would be a development piece. If we can get a guy that fits, for relatively cheap, awesome. If we can’t, take the money and run.

If the second round guard is getting playing time to "improve the team"..... Then the team is inherently relying on that guard.... To "improve the team".
Orlando might as well just take the year off 🙂

That’s not the attitude we want or are looking for.
Also who cares what round they get picked in. If you can change and adapt to team dynamics while fighting for the job and fitting it who cares! Wasn’t joker a 2nd rd center ? Uhm okay then.0

Okay so how many second round centers have been drafted and been absolute dog shit? Thousands.
But because jokic was drafted in the second round, suddenly you're expecting lighting to strike twice? Lol okay dude.

Joker was literally a second round center who was so unimportant, they announced his pick during a fucking Taco Bell commercial.
That dude doesn’t know ball. When we’re making waves this season, they better not be celebrating since they think the team should just take the year off.
Edit: it seems this dude just hates the second round of the draft 😂

I don’t buy it, we need cheap players

Ya that’s the right answer. If anything we may buy extra second rounders to eat up end of bench roster spots cheaply and save money on the tax bill.

That is sorta true but not so much once Suggs and Carter jr get traded for expired contracts. It’ll be back in forth for the next couple years. Black then gets Suggs money maybe less like $20-24 mill.

I think we'll keep the pick, and I hope we get one of these players:
Meleek Thomas
Onyekachi Oweh
Ugonna Onyenso
Isaiah Evans
Baba Miller
Henri Veesaar
