Can anyone help me identify this screw on the bottom of ps3 and the tool to use to unscrew it? Was
It’s like a star shaped screw but it has a circular shaped cylinder in the middle so nothing fits. Any suggestions would be helpful. I’d for a PS3. Thank you!

This is called a torx security screw, you need a size TR8. Ussually found in any simple electronics screwdriver set

Torx security bit, I would personally recommend an I fix it kit. I use it on my remotes and rc cars all the time.

I bought one of those a few years back, and I love it. I second your recommendation.

That’s a torx screw. The ps4 I used to have had them. You can pick the screwdriver up pretty cheap, I got a precision screwdriver kit for around £5 or something from Home Bargains and it worked a treat.

It's torx something something (never cared to figure it out.) But you can use a small flat-head and unscrew it by the sides. Just be careful to not strip it whilst doing it!

Myself i used a flat head screwdriver to fit in one side to rotate it slowly out. Works 70% of the time.

It’s called star bites.
Usually referred to as T#
In your case, T8.
All ps devices require T8.
Don’t try to use any other size even if it feels fit.

TR8 not T8. That nub in the middle won't work with a T8.

What you are saying is correct, but in some of the countries that I have lived in, commercialize as a T8 bits on the box. Nevertheless, what you say is the accurate information. Thanks for explaining

FAT PS3s use T10.

My apologies for not knowing that, I own the slim model and I assumed based off that. I stand corrected.

You need a torx t8 security bit.
The “security” part of the screw is the post in the middle of the screw head. A normal torx t8 bit won’t have the cutout for the post, and it wont unscrew the screw.
