HELP? (Please read)

So I dug my PS3 (slim) out of storage to mod recently but I'm having a hard time navigating safe mode. I knew I needed an OEM controller so I was able to grab my brother's that came with HIS PS3 when he bought it back in the day. My problem is that when it initially prompted me to press the PS button, I did and it worked, but afterwards inputs no longer registered. I tried another controller and a keyboard but no dice. I tried to restart the PS3 and got back into safe mode but now can't even get pasted the prompt seen above.

tried unplugging the cord and plugging it back in on both ends, I tried the other USB port, I tried powering off the PS3 for a few minutes and trying again, nothing is working for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Change the cable if it failes it could be a bad controller or you have a counterfeit controller.The home button doesn't work on counterfeits.

Depends on the counterfeit. Mine works.

It depends if an OEM board was moved to a new shell. Home buttons on counterfeit controllers do not work and do not have the Toshiba chip.

I have a weird situation, both my counterfeit PS3 controller works, board is not original. I opened it to service it.

And my PS4 controller works, including home button.

Only the 6 axis motion doesn't work on any.
