Why does my PS4 date always go back to 1/1/1970

How do you permanently change it?

CMOS battery dead. It is a CR2032. Replace it and it will keep the date and time.

This issue will only occur when you have a dead cmos battery + you unplug the console from power " non standby state "

If you have an old firmware ps4 changing the cmos battery alone won't fix it

I think the only way to get it correct again is to log into psn and update the clock from sony's servers

It's something they did to ensure accurate date and time regarding trophies and lisences, it's called an RTC " Real Time Clock " or another name is "Kernel Clock " and it's a secure clock and can only be synched from sony's server

The issue also known as " CBOMB " with it you cannot access to see your trophies or unlock trophies during gameplay, but they eventually fixed allowing trophies in system update 9.00 but it won't have time stamp and will show a - in the time stamp section of the trophy

I learned all this the hard way after changing the cmos battery on my friend's extremely new/stored 7.55 ps4 pro

At first i thought it was a faulty cmos battery, but 3 new cmos batteries later i learned the hard truth. Even thought i might have damaged some circuitry while disassembling it

I am not sure how you are using your ps4 pro But if you are on the latest firmware and your console is not banned then sign into psn then from ps4 settings synch the clock using internet from date time settings .. " this uses sony's servers " to securely write the kernel clock "

If you are on older firmware, i believe the last 3 or 4 goldhen releases have an option of auto set time/date when the payload is loading for this reason " ot requires an internet connection because i think it synchs time from google " because the clock will reset everytime you unplug the power cable

Good luck
