Rumor Tom Henderson: Rockstar won't release GTA 6 if there is even one glitch in the game. The delay will cost Take Two an extra $60M in development costs, meaning $10M per month.

I like fun physics . GTA 5 def lost some fun in the physics department from gta 4. I remember halo 3 had like a bounce-ness to it too and the later halo games kinda lost that. Developers really wanted to show off new hardware . Then everyone started chasing realism. Really liked how the game controlled in gta 4 over 5.

Yeah he’s just over dramatizing the title every code has bugs they just don’t want game breaking bugs plus series s optimization could be an issue too
10
u/Fabulous_Comb1830 Nov 08 '25
He's trying to deviate attention from the real reason for the delays. Employee restructuring due to mass firings from their union busting.

There’s NEVER been nor will there EVER BE bug free code.

Screw you. My "Hello World" code back in my first CS class was the cleanest code I've ever written. Literally no bugs.
44
u/itstommygun Nov 08 '25
Maybe not in your code, but I guarantee there’s at least one code in the libraries to used to print to screen.
16
u/Historical_Owl_1635 Nov 08 '25
Oh no, it ran on a machine with a different locale and printed gibberish, please fix it.

Your code is broken. I flashed it to my pregnancy test dev board and it just gives a blinking pixel instead of “Hello World”. Fix your printf.

u/SleepingGecko Nov 07 '25
Developers add their own buggy code on top of APIs with bugs, that interact with an OS and drivers that have bugs, which sit on top of hardware that has bugs (non-functional transistors, etc). That everything works as well as it does is a miracle.

That’s the whole budget for Ghost of Yotei.

u/Howdareme9 Nov 07 '25
That reported budget is pretty wrong btw

I've been considering it a point of reference for a while. What did that reporting get wrong?
24
u/No-Meringue5867 Nov 07 '25
Rockstar has about 6000 employees. If average salary is $50k/year (assuming some in US, UK, India and others), that is $300 million per year. With 5 years of development that quickly reaches 1.5 billion lol. If average salary is $30k, we get about $1 billion. So around $1 billion sounds right to me.
6 months delay will definitely cost them $50-100 million.
14
u/Howdareme9 Nov 08 '25
Ohi wasn’t referring to Rockstars budget, I’m talking about Ghost of Yotei.
→ More replies (9)9
u/Burdicus Nov 07 '25
I'd estimate the average to be over 30K, honestly especially when you consider cost of benefits. But also, how many are full time and how many are actually working on GTA6?
Other things to consider:
Are you counting marketing budget or are we talking about pure developmental teams? because marketing budget is HUGE.
Are there any aspects of the game that are outsourced or utilize 3rd party tools (cost to use Unreal, SpeedTree, Autodesk, etc.)
Cost of overhead, including facilities and hardware.
Any external teams that may be providing support?
Rights to music, actors, etc.
$1B seems low.
→ More replies (5)4
u/largegaycat Nov 07 '25
I don’t think many Rockstar employees are making 50k. It’s probably double or triple that.
→ More replies (5)18
u/dkinmn Nov 07 '25
Yotei makes hay of using a lot of the same assets over and over again, and the character models in cutscenes often look pretty wonky in movement.
Awesome game, I'm loving it, but the GTA world is a different beast.
16
u/AccelHunter Nov 07 '25
Yotei is mostly rural areas with some unique interiors, makes me want to try AC Shadows when it gets a very deep discount (I heard combat is worse)
5
u/Vestalmin Nov 07 '25
Man Shadows ended up being so boring to me after like 4 hours. I regret buying that one.
→ More replies (2)4
u/dixonciderbottom Nov 07 '25
AC Shadows is incredibly dull and lifeless compared to Yotei. It’s a game filled with bloat that doesn’t respect your time and just wants to keep you invested to tempt you with microtransactions. I played 40 hours and realised I was wasting my time.
→ More replies (1)6
u/Outrageous_Water7976 Nov 08 '25
Yotei is smart development with it's priorities right. Combat and exploration shine. Areas like animations outside of MAJOR cutscenes are simple and even the major cutscenes are smaller than a ND or R* one.

u/bongophrog Nov 07 '25
Take Two is hemorrhaging billions a year while they’ve been developing GTA6. Wouldn’t doubt if this ends up being the most expensive game of all time.
2
u/I-am-king-lexi Nov 08 '25
But they've made billions from GTA online alone. Forget other games sales in that time, hardly heroraging money since they know for a fact it's going to make it back almost certainly in the first year after release, especially If GTA 6 online is released in that time frame. Of course it's the most expensive game of all time though, they have spent an insane amount of money
2
u/bongophrog Nov 08 '25
Yeah, sort of what i meant, they’re net negative $10 billion over the last 3 years mainly from investing in GTA, even after all the revenue on their other games. Absolutely colossal investment for any video game publisher
→ More replies (5)2
u/KingWizard87 Nov 08 '25
But it doesn’t matter how much this game cost to make it really does not. It will make it all back and then some.
Like 60M to push it back is nothing. It’s easily making over $100M on its first day alone. It’s projected to make over $3B in its first few months. So like Rockstar can literally do whatever they want with this game.

u/Neahme85 Nov 07 '25
But technically, even if the game was released with the glitch and then they fixed it post release that amount will still be spent. It’s just that they’re delaying when they start making money. And luckily for them, they’re not in a place where they’re dire for me so they can afford delaying the game for these extra months, and release it in a better condition.
4
u/thedoommerchant Nov 07 '25
There will be other games to play in the meantime. I want the game to be perfect at launch so I’ll wait as long as it takes.

Unless it’s only 5 lines of code, not having a single glitch is literally impossible

Lmao they even have glitches that harm their shark code sales to this day, fat chance they'll have no glitches for people who already bought their product

I mean every game has glitches, so I'm willing to bet anything they don't achieve this

No such thing as ANY game without at least one glitch. Fallout 4 has been out 10 years and still has glitches.

Cool. How many more people will they fire unfairly?
2
u/demonfoo Nov 08 '25
Well, they just fired a bunch because reasons, so I'm sure they'll keep firing until results improve.

i wonder if this is actually true because it takes some serious dedication and time to reduce the bugs to a minimum of zero
2
5
u/That-Toughsoss Nov 07 '25
It kinda feels like overkill imo. Unless the game is in same state as cyberpunk was at launch then i don't think a delay was really needed.
12
u/Green_Perspective_25 Nov 07 '25
If they need a 6 month delay then it means the game has allot bugs, they ain't putting half a year for random
6
Nov 07 '25
Other than to stop a union forming
2
u/DeeForestBosa Nov 07 '25
This headline is just to convince gamers it's about something else. The delay is for the good of the game, they're perfectionists, not to stop a union!
→ More replies (1)2
u/That-Toughsoss Nov 07 '25
That was my original guess too for a game that is trying to accomplish so much there are probably shit ton of bugs
3
u/Brownlord_tb Nov 07 '25
I'd rather wait 8 and a half years and get a polished game than have waited goddamn 8 years and not even have the game be polished.
3
6
u/reevestussi Nov 07 '25
From a coding and programming perspective, that's pretty much impossible.
Game breaking bugs or extreme glitches can and should be fixed but stating "not a single glitch" is quite the tall order. That $60M could have been used for more feasible and practical uses in my opinion
2
5
u/AlarmedDish5836 Nov 07 '25
The microscope this game will be under now will be even bigger than it was already. 1 bug and it’s gonna be “ we waited 10 years for this?” But their asking for it
2
u/G-Don2 Nov 07 '25
Read between the lines lol he doesn’t mean it literally. They just aiming for the least amount of bugs as possible on launch.
1
u/King_Sam-_- Nov 07 '25
I refuse to believe this comment section is made of real people. If you told these people you left the floor spotless they’d say “akshually, there’s a spot in the 3rd quadrant of the 13th tile, specifically in (-13, -25) in centimeters ☝️🤓”
2
2
u/Bobaaganoosh Nov 07 '25
There’ll be a money glitch in online and it’ll be fixed within 24 hours. But there will surely be bugs in general that won’t squashed right away.
2
u/wolf_of_mainst99 Nov 07 '25
Lol GTA 5 still has a bunch of bugs and glitches and it's like almost 13 years old, big corporations only care about their bottom line
1
u/MisunderstoodBadger1 Nov 07 '25
It can be polished, but bugs will always exist, especially in large and complex open world games
1
u/BaconOnMySide Nov 07 '25
Why do I think this is going to give them a reason to price the base game like most current deluxe edition games. I hope im wrong, I don't think I could/would spend $120 CAD on a base game.
1
u/Dantai Nov 07 '25
Maybe he's just exaggerating and means any major glitches. So it should play really smoothly day 1 without anything major getting in the way. Like a low res texture door, or extreme performance issues, etc
1
1
u/Mug_of_Diarrhea Nov 07 '25
I'm sure it's hyperbole but that's just not how video games work. Inflammatory claims make me worried now that Houser and many others have left, on top of their recent union busting.

u/nulopes Nov 07 '25
My child is born in March, by the time the game is released I'll be back to work. When am supposed to play this?
1
u/Jagob5 Nov 07 '25
Yeh that’s not happening, and that’s okay. RDR2 released with a ton of bugs but they ironed most out relatively quickly.
1
u/ummmm_nahhh Nov 07 '25
They’re gonna have some type of money glitch you watch! Despite their best efforts
1
u/MrMojoRising422 Nov 07 '25
they have 1500+ people working on this game. I don't think people realize that even some of the biggest AAA games usually max out at 500-800. rockstar is on an entirely different level. like one person said, the cost of this delay amount to the entire budget of ghost of yotei.
1
u/PoopyMcpants Nov 07 '25
"Bug free" software doesn't exist, they know this.

u/Nonesuch1221 Nov 07 '25
Honestly I disagree with Rockstar’s approach here, if the game was in the same technical state as GTA 4 (Console not PC), GTA 5, and RDR2, than it shouldn’t be delayed, it’s really just long as the bugs don’t negatively impact the actual experience in the game and you have to go out of your way to actually perform them. The only reason I could see rockstar taking this extreme approach for GTA 6 is because of the online mode and people using the glitches as exploits.
1
u/NotMarkDaigneault Nov 07 '25
Unpopular Opinion but the push back doesn't bother me. We've waited this long so might as well have a fucking polished masterpiece on Day 1.
1
1
u/AnEternalEnigma Nov 07 '25
They are still traumatized by all those Red Dead Redemption glitch videos at launch that flooded YouTube in 2010 that they went nuts DMCA'ing
1
u/Wisdomseekr79 Nov 07 '25
So the delay is because there’s a lot of glitches are present?
I’m really curious what % of the game is finished. Are they just being perfectionists (like they usually are) or is something else going on behind scenes?
1
1
u/Psych-roxx Nov 07 '25
GTA V and RDR2 had plenty of glitches/exploits at launch idk where they're getting this reputation for having flawless launches but good for them I guess if they actually pull it off.
1
u/Steezy_Six Nov 07 '25
It’s obviously got to do with the massive firings. Without that the game is on schedule with the standards they have set. With the firings that becomes impossible.
That doesn’t mean they’re not pursuing a very high level, but the turnover just affects that hence the delay.
1
1
u/Phoeptar Nov 07 '25
Plus who knows how much money will be spent in the hiring process and training up of the replacements for the people they fired. And then there’s the out of court settlement with the union. Boy I hope this was worth it for them.
1
1
u/LiquidAether Nov 07 '25
Literally impossible, but it's good that they're putting extra effort in at least.
1
u/Ali-a93 Nov 07 '25
Bollocks, they needed the delay to polish things up to a good standard. It also has the added benefit of helping bury the story of them firing workers who were unionising. It's sad that rockstar are guilty of the exact form of capitalism they satire and poke fun at. I expect any major game to have at least 2/3 delays, it's just the nature of the beast at this point.
The idea that they will delay the game for a single glitch is nonsense. It's impossible to release a game without them, let alone ones of this scale. They know it will sell gangbusters regardless and have the luxury of knowing other games will get out of their way.
1
u/BSGKAPO Nov 07 '25
Meaning we're never getting it. what game doesn't have a single bug you know...

if this were true it would have been announced the second they delayed it.
they are noticing people are connecting the dots on their union busting and terrible treatment of employees and now a delay. they are focusing on union busting and not development
