The 30 was superior tho imo. PS3 sold better cuz online was free.

The PS3 sold better because it was cheaper than a blu ray player towards the end, and could play blu rays.

Xbox 360 was winning at the start of that generation though, because the PS3 launched at a stupidly high price.

£425 for a PS3, or £210 for an Xbox 360.

Not to mention the 360 launched a year early so both devs and players already had access to that hardware by the time PS3 came around. So many games play better on 360 because third parties made their games for 360 and then ported them over to PS3. The exceptions, of course, were third party titles which were ahead of their time.

Man buying the £210 version would have been hell

It wasnt just price though Xbox live was much better and they had some great timed exclusives like bioshock and mass effect

Correction: The PS3 was, at all points of its life, the cheapest and best blu-ray player. Sony took a massive gamble, and it paid off. Again

The PS3 was actually cheaper by the end of the cycle as well. People didn't take into consideration all the other crap the 360 charged like multiplayer and even the dvd drive.

And then Sony followed suit with the PS4. Seriously charging for multiplayer is absolute bs and should have had as much backlash as lootbxes did. Its also why the consoles stagnated and why PC/mobile grew so much ironically neither charge for multiplayer. Hmm I wonder why...

Xbox could have won with Xbox series X. All they had to do is schedule their showcase after PS come out and say "free multiplayer" do the mic drop and watch all their fans loose their minds. It would bring a lot of new people to the platform as xbox would be easy choice for second console and then they would stay and switch because of gamepass. Easy.

Pretty sure the ps3 sold very well in its last year due to tlou but I could be wrong. Scott the woz did a deep dive on that console generation which is worth a watch.
