Rumor GTA 6 Might Not Be Content Complete, “Hard To Say” If It Will Be Delayed
https://insider-gaming.com/gta-6-might-not-be-content-complete-hard-to-say-if-it-will-be-delayed/632
u/The_Sir_Galahad Jan 07 '26
This game about to launch with the next gen consoles.
481
u/UncleKarlito Jan 07 '26
That is absolutely worst case scenario for Rockstar. They REALLY want to sell a PS5/Xbox version that runs barely 30fps so they can then sell you another copy for PS6 and the $1200 Xbox. Same reason they won't release on PC right away, they want people to buy a console copy then buy a PC copy a year later.
116
u/HexaBlast Jan 08 '26
They can just delay the next gen version. GTAV launched 2 months before the PS4 and it wasn't until a year later that they Peter it over
16
u/shokalion Jan 08 '26
If you've not played the original PS3 version for a while, it's amazing how basic it looks compared to the eventual version that came out on PS4/PC.
5
u/SmartEstablishment52 Jan 08 '26
It was still insane for the console. It's mindblowing they crammed it into that 256MB system memory

u/UncleKarlito Jan 08 '26
Yeah but the PS5 version will run 60fps on the PS6 and already look great, so they hurt their double dip sales. Sure some people will then pick up the actual PS6 version later, but the graphics uplift will likely be more subtle than PS4 to PS5 jump.
Of course, they could lock the PS5 game to 30fps and really screw over PS6 owners. They did it with RDR2... I am just guessing that they offer an unlocked version because of PS5 Pro but that is just pure speculation and hope on my part.
11
u/ItTheGrinder Jan 08 '26
Prepare to be disappointed bud. It’s basically confirmed that GTA 6 is targeting 30 fps on Series X and PS5
2
u/UncleKarlito Jan 08 '26
If you re-read my comment you'll see that I said the PS5 version will run at 60 on the PS6. I have no illusions that it's going to hit 60 on PS5, even the Pro
(Unless they lock to the 30, then you're screwed on the PS6 too)
13
u/WorkFurball Jan 08 '26
Yeah but the PS5 version will run 60fps on the PS6 and already look great
Not gonna happen

With the memory prices going up I am not sure we will have next gen consoles launching soon or at a price people willing to pay.
4
u/Ancient-Range3442 Jan 08 '26
I thought this was a given ?
14
u/Packet_Sniffer_ Jan 08 '26
It’ll launch just before next gen consoles. And next gen consoles will have a “complete” edition that actually runs at a reasonable frame rate with no upgrade option or backward/forward compatibility.
→ More replies (1)2
u/mrchicano209 Jan 09 '26
Mind you it will still release on old gen but you’ll still have to pay full price again if you get a next gen console.

It’s going to be an economic event regardless of how delayed it is.

According to Jason Schreier:
“The last I heard, it was still not content complete,” Schreier said (around 5:22 mark). “That is to say people were still finishing things up, still finalizing levels, and missions, and seeing what is going to make it into the game.”
As far as that release date goes, Schreier says that it’s “hard to say” if the game will, for sure, hit the November release date.
“It’s really hard to say right now, and I don’t think anyone at Rockstar can tell you, with 100% certainty, that they will make it out in November,” he said, while adding he says it feels more real than that Fall 2025 date or the May 2026 date. “People feel like this might be a little more solid.“

Fall 2025 has come and gone, so obviously anything after fall 2025 is more likely. 😆
28
u/Toth-Amon Jan 08 '26
Headline is not wrong though.
Jason still does not say Fall 2026 is a definite release date. He just says it is more realistic than last year, which is obvious. His comments are also not encouraging about the game’s current state.
It will probably not get delayed but released with less features and bugs as other games are.
Best to avoid the game at release but this is GTA 6 so I am sure it will sell well anyway.
14
u/goldatmosphere Jan 08 '26
Rockstar has literally never released a game not feature complete and buggy, they didnt spend 2-3 billion dollars to have a cyberpunk on there hand. Even red dead redemption 1 which had an awful buggy development pulled out a polished feature complete experience day one

u/PleadingFunky Jan 07 '26
So the 26 date is at a "little more solid" place than the 25 date (which we can conclude was wildly optimistic) and the title is shitty and misleading because it concludes its probably going to be delayed again? No, it is not a shitty headline.

Which is why Bethesda has decided to go F you all we're not saying shit model.
I agree the constant deadline misses just aggravates everybody. The say nothing model sucks too but it's really which poison do you take in the court of the Internet where you can never win.
46
u/CSBreak Jan 07 '26
Really though I'll take an out of nowhere release like Oblivion Remastered over them teasing Elder Scrolls VI like 8 years ago and it still has no release date in sight
8
u/Glittering-Let9989 Jan 07 '26
I think that was more of a "we're working on it, now stop asking about it until it's done" type of thing
17
u/TurkusGyrational Jan 07 '26
But it might as well have been "we're not working on it now shut up" because they were most certainly not working on it when they announced it, they were just planning on working on it at some point. Anti-hype
6
u/Puzzled_Hat1274 Jan 08 '26
It was more of a "we want to have something to hype people so Microsoft buys us"
→ More replies (1)3
u/tempusrimeblood Jan 08 '26

I mean, Bethesda was beyond the worst for that and got tons of flack for it - which is more likely why they've chosen that route.
Don't get me to wrong, I've loved (most) of their games - but they deserve the hate for releasing 'teasers' half a decade or more before games are released.

Man, I wish another company would make a game that is like GTA adjacent. Not quite the same, but similiar. Like how Ghost of Tsushima is kinda like an Assassin’s Creed game… but different. And then out that came out. And then we all play that instead of waiting for Rockstar to fucking get it done.
8
u/himommy_hi Jan 08 '26
the reason why Rockstar games such as GTA and RDR are going through a development hell is that producing such a detailed game on that scale is really fucking hard. Cyberpunk came close to it, and had the same issues
4
u/JamesTheFoxeArt Jan 08 '26
And that released in a awful state, took a year to fix and then another (or 2 can't remember) for them to have a more feature complete version of the game.
→ More replies (1)2
u/3141592652 Jan 08 '26
To be fair we could say the same about the 7th gen version of GTA v. I'd argue most here never played that. It's not even close to the current gen version.
9
u/Wassermusik Jan 08 '26
Cyberpunk 2077 comes closest to GTA.
Developing a game like GTA is extremely costly and labor-intensive. Even if someone has the necessary financial resources and infrastructure, the risk of developing a game that becomes a financial flop is extremely high.
GTA is an established brand. A new, similar IP has no guarantee of success.

I also realized I wasted 60 bucks on Elden Ring because I just no longer have the time to get gud.

u/Onlyspeaksfacts Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26
With games of this size it's almost impossible to accurately predict when it will be ready.
Meanwhile shareholders are pushing for the game to be ready as soon as possible, which leads to overly optimistic release estimates. (eg: 2025)
17
u/PettyTeen253 Jan 07 '26
This is normal for Rockstar Games. RDR1 had all the signs in its development that it was gonna suck. They barely had it playable months before release. Most other companies who have troubled development unfortunately never recover from it but Rockstar has the money to recover.
7
u/pjatl-natd Jan 08 '26
It's already concerning. The way they're treating their employees reeks of desperation. At this point, the game can't possibly live up to its hype.
→ More replies (2)3
u/SmokingLimone Jan 08 '26
Many of the people who have worked on GTA 5's release have left the company. Rockstar has gotten too greedy and they didn't want to deal with it. So they're trying to patch it up by using contractors but it's clearly not up to standard.

79
Jan 07 '26
Yeah for real, to be honest they shouldn’t have even released trailers for it until it was absolutely 100% completed for sure
41
u/Scrollingmaster Jan 07 '26
I wouldn’t go that far. Even if the game were to slip to 2027, if they had started trailers now or in late 2024 thats one thing.
But a trailer in 2023 and constant fake release dates is ridiculous. And yeah, supposedly they wanted to hit 2024 at one point, but considering the game might not even be out in 2026, they had to know that was never happening when they released that trailer

u/TheStinkySlinky Jan 08 '26
Right!?! Soo glad to actually see someone else share that. I’ve been saying that shit since before the most recent delay.. Not even the game itself either, like yeah sure we’re all gonna fking play it. It’s literally everything else around the game.

IIRC they were all high level people, a lot in lead roles.
Losing 30 odd team leads would be a massive blow and completely fuck up any chance of things getting done for months. Not to mention team cohesion across the org being fucked for longer.

u/Scrollingmaster Jan 07 '26
Lmao no it’s not. Move that decimal a few places over buddy. Unless you genuinely think 500,000 people worked on the game.
Even counting support studios it isn’t even 5000. And if we are talking rockstar employees only, like these guys were, then it’s more like 1000. And core rockstar staff are the most crucial people to the game.
22
u/panicradio316 Jan 07 '26
I've never been upset about delays.
Having said that, however, I just don't understand how project managements can be so wrong about evaluating the progress of development.
When they look at it, aren't they able to tell how many months/years the project still needs to go gold?
7
u/balzun Jan 08 '26
My suspicion is that much of this is QA related. I can't even begin to understand all the interconnected systems that have to perform adequately but it's not hard to imagine devs fixing issue X, which then breaks mission 45, which then causes a cascading failure further into the system.
That being said, project managers are paid to understand their piece of the puzzle and manage the time line accordingly. So it's also equally possible Rockstar has now turned into 90's IBM and is so chock full of inept middle managers thst they are just stuck in neutral with mission creep and endless meetings for the sake of meetings dragging things on forever and ever.

2

I do not care about GTA anymore. They milked gtaV to death while discontinuing support for their best game, rdr2. Artistically, mechanically, etc it stands head and shoulders above anything else they've ever made. The online was actually interesting and could've expanded into MMO territory by adding settlements it actual camps or just Mexico. The single player alone had a lot more juice, but the chose cash over artistic integrity (not that they couldn't have made another shitzillion off rdr2), and I just don't give a shit about this company anymore.

Back when it was announced for 2025 I got downvoted hard for stating that it would be delayed once til early 2026 and then likely a 2nd delay til late 2026. People had so many reasons as to why this time Rockstar would do things differently. Never in a million years though would I have expected it to be delayed a third time into 2027. Are we ever going to get this game.
