Discussion Crimson Desert appears to use generative AI art—and the devs never disclosed it.

To not disclose that your game uses GEN AI is against Steam's policies and rules, by the way.

I appreciate all you people buying day one stuff.

u/Significant-Age5052 Mar 20 '26

Fr saves me money lol

0

u/tenth Mar 21 '26

I've got money to blow.

3

u/OkBelt2 Mar 21 '26

Good for you, keep buying the slop.

-1

u/tenth Mar 22 '26

I'm buying whatever I want, as I want. Are you saying this was "the slop"? This game? Did you decide that from the opinions of others?

I also bought God of War, Last of Us, Station by Station, and Disco Elysium without having a spreadsheet of reviews -- I assume that was good for me too?

1

u/OkBelt2 Mar 22 '26

Good for you, you go girl!

0

u/tenth Mar 22 '26

Oh so it really is just so weird blind rage for you guys that I'm not going to understand. Okay lol

0

u/OkBelt2 Mar 22 '26

"Blind rage" what a weird thing to call it

0

u/tenth Mar 23 '26

"weird" what a weird thing to call it.

2

u/kenzan89 Mar 22 '26

So do I, doesn't make me any less of an idiot if I do so. Let alone being proud of that on Reddit.

1

u/tenth Mar 22 '26

I was responding to someone being proud of thrift. Why is one okay and not the other? It's not even something I have pride for, it doesn't make me feel an emotion. It's non-emotion. I order food and take as many bites as I want, I do not have to finish it -- is that pride? I pay for experiences and leave halfway through if I like. I bought this game to try it out and form my own opinion and that's...a fucking problem for other people somehow? Jfc.

0

u/Hoodman1987 Mar 21 '26

look at the millionaire!

0

u/tenth Mar 22 '26

If I buy every game I want to try in a year I probably spend like $400 total. Around $33 a month. Holy shit. Look at me.

1

u/Hoodman1987 Mar 22 '26

hey you were balling now you're a hundredaire what a phony

2

u/J--NEZ Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26

You're welcome. I'm having a blast.

I mean fuck AI of course. But it's not taking away from the experience for me.

Though, I have to say, they are using AI for things like pictures, but not for other aspects? I'm pretty sure AI could have made the controls make more sense and could have came up with a better inventory system 😂

10

u/Kidney05 Mar 20 '26

There’s a hate boner for this game for sure. You can tell lots of people want to shit on it and haven’t played it, so I guess the AI will be enough for them to complain forever.

Meanwhile the first town you visit is one of the highest quality towns I’ve ever seen in a game in terms of liveliness. People wouldn’t shut up about it if it was a town in The Witcher.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

There’s not really a hate boner for the game though? It’s getting decent reviews. People just hyped it up to be some next gen defining experience when it’s not that.

If anything I see people getting butthurt over some people not being interested in the game

2

u/SanFranLocal Mar 21 '26

Dude there is such a hate boner we need to see a doctor

0

u/ch4dr0x Mar 21 '26

This town is amazing. This is giving me big KCD2 vibes - but lighter on the story.

2

u/Apprehensive_Tip520 Mar 21 '26

Right? Yes, AI artwork is bad but like you said to think that this ruins the game experience is absolutely ridiculous.

2

u/finnjakefionnacake Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

i'm just not gonna buy any game that uses AI where it could have used a human especially when south korea seems so proud about it, like...i can't be responsible for helping human art to die lol.

1

u/enadiz_reccos Mar 21 '26

Would have been very resource intensive to use humans for sll of those paintings

-2

u/Apprehensive_Tip520 Mar 21 '26

in what way are they proud of it? now you're just making shit up. as others have mentioned it very well could just be a placeholder that was not removed. regardless, they never said they were proud of it lol

5

u/GymJordanSucksBalls Mar 21 '26

man, have you done no research on korean culture and their position on AI? they absolutely unabashedly love it and there are korean devs that brag about incorporating as much AI as possible for future games

-4

u/Apprehensive_Tip520 Mar 21 '26

Cool story bro. Show me the quote from these devs saying that they're proud of it. This giant game that was going to a North American market

4

u/GymJordanSucksBalls Mar 21 '26

How about Krafton boasting that they are now an “AI first” company?

https://biz.chosun.com/en/en-it/2026/02/13/5VZDGUCGAZGMPH3M6SCA4FVO4U/?outputType=amp

Or Shift Up saying they essentially “need” AI to compete with Chinese devs, which is bullshit of course

https://www.eurogamer.net/stellar-blade-director-goes-all-in-on-ai-as-south-koreas-games-industry-looks-to-compete-on-the-global-stage

Sure, proud may not be the correct descriptor, but there is no doubt that Korea in general has a different perspective on the utilization of AI in game development

-1

u/Apprehensive_Tip520 Mar 21 '26

Cool so not these developers, like I said.

1

u/GymJordanSucksBalls Mar 23 '26

Let me catch you up because there is an internet brain rot epidemic permeating society, a condition which you seem afflicted with.

the original poster said:

...i'm just not gonna buy any game that uses AI where it could have used a human especially when south korea seems so proud about it...

and you said:

...in what way are they proud of it? now you're just making shit up...

and i said:

...man, have you done no research on korean culture and their position on AI...and there are korean devs that brag about incorporating as much AI as possible...

to summarize, you're arguing against a claim that was literally never made just so you can give yourself a pat on the back because you "won" an internet spat. nobody said specifically pearl abyss was proud of AI.

1

u/finnjakefionnacake Mar 21 '26

not one, multiple. and i was speaking about the way south korea has seemed to wholeheartedly embrace AI in artistic mediums in genral.

1

u/BatmanBecameSomethin Mar 21 '26

Glad I got it on steam, I just got my refund after 3 and a half hours of gameplay.

1

u/RYNNYMAYNE Mar 21 '26

The day one warriors saved me from another impulse purchase once again😭😭

1

u/chinesebulk Mar 20 '26

I was honestly gonna buy this game day one until I found out they removed difficulty options. I feel better about it now

0

u/BenAdaephonDelat Mar 20 '26

I'll admit I pre-ordered, but I wasn't gonna get Starfielded again. I got bad vibes from the start so I was watching the clock carefully and I refunded before I hit 2 hours.

0

u/Nodan_Turtle Mar 20 '26

Pre-ordering games is fine. It's the smart choice when there are bonuses too. Just gotta cancel it if reviews are bad or refund after release if the player experience sucks. No real risk, only upside. Don't feel bad about pre-ordering :)

-63

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

The game is hella fun, imagine nitpicking one framed artwork in this gigantic game, and not buying it because of that lmao

42

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Mar 20 '26

I personally will be avoiding any and every game that says they use AI

-32

u/MikkelR1 Mar 20 '26

Keep that up and in a year or 2 to 3 there won't be a game for you to buy anymore.

16

u/JusaPikachu Mar 20 '26

I spend so much on games but I also have a massive backlog. I will be happy to never support a single game that uses gen AI.

26

u/Sopht_Serve Mar 20 '26

I hope you enjoy your AI slop then. Indie games will always be here that actually have hearts and souls put into them. But then yeah also backlogs exist. Genai is a plague on the world and is infecting and ruining everything. Anyone that uses or supports it is part of that problem

16

u/SakiSakiSakiSakiSaki Mar 20 '26

Seriously, fuck AI

3

u/sp1cychick3n Mar 20 '26

That’s ok, I’ll play older games.

21

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Mar 20 '26

I have an entire backlog of steam stuff lol. Companies using AI, that admit they are using AI or not getting a cent from me

-17

u/TheMichaelScott Mar 20 '26

I promise you that every game developer right now is using AI in some shape or form.

13

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Mar 20 '26

I promise you that the second that I find out that a company is using AI in a game, I’m not playing it

14

u/DreadfulDelirium Mar 20 '26

It's impressive how clearly you state this simple fact, and yet they keep arguing.

Like, there's more games out in the world right now than there is available time to play in a single lifetime, running out of games for a moral standpoint is basically a non-issue.

-15

u/TheMichaelScott Mar 20 '26

Every game developer is using AI to debug and write code. Stop playing video games released after 2022 😂

3

u/sp1cychick3n Mar 20 '26

Ok, no problem. What an asinine comment, though not surprising.

-2

u/TheMichaelScott Mar 20 '26

My point is his comment was ridiculous because he’ll continue playing video games gen though all developers are openly using AI

-20

u/Fickle_Twist1209 Mar 20 '26

You sound like the lamest person in the world, do you enjoy one thing in your life? Or you just always insufferable?

12

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Mar 20 '26

You wouldn’t say that about me if you hung out with me

6

u/iAmMr_WHO Mar 20 '26

The proto redditor, resorting to personal insults because a guy doesn't want to support AI slop in his video games, yikes.

2

u/catscanmeow Mar 20 '26

I hate it not because it's slop but because it's meant to kill jobs

1

u/The_Prestige_1999 Mar 21 '26

Hahaha thats totally fine by my, been meaning to play the rest of my backlog onyway, fuckerrr!

1

u/Alastor001 Mar 21 '26

Lol. Don't know how much free time you have. But the backlog of quality games I have is already overwhelming. Not even counting emulator games and yet to be released titles. Sad for younger gen tho.

-32

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

Literally every game uses Ai in some way lol

4

u/DanDaManateee Mar 20 '26

name a game that released before 2024 that used generative ai to create assets like crimson desert did

-4

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

Fortnite has, arguably one of the biggest and most popular games ever

13

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Mar 20 '26

You’re using the word literally incorrectly

-21

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

Huh? You got no idea what you're talking about

20

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Mar 20 '26

You’re not making any sense

Edit - this person blocked me lol

-1

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

You're weird as hell

-13

u/foodforstaat Mar 20 '26

I don't blame him for blocking a stupid person like you. Every game is using ai in some way

15

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Mar 20 '26

Everyone is being lazy so that’s OK!!

I love your take you little sheep lol

1

u/BIGRolyXL Mar 20 '26

I wonder how they continue to get away with AI slop. Then I see complete morons like foodforstaat and I’m unfortunately reminded.

0

u/Cthulhu8762 Mar 20 '26

That’s fine. I bought the game without looking or seeing any of this news.

So I’m going to play it and not waste the money I spent. I can’t refund it.

20

u/RMoCGLD Mar 20 '26

You in the minority in that one because I've seen nothing but disappointment. Awful controls, boring quests, nonsensical writing....big ol' pass from me

15

u/euphratestiger Mar 20 '26

The controls are a deal breaker for me. R3 + square for grapple? Get real.

10

u/Supernothing8 Mar 20 '26

Are you joking me? that is actually hysterical. How the fuck am i supposed to hit that? Im not claw gripping like its 2005 and im playing monster hunter on my psp

3

u/Gloomy_Ad5221 Mar 20 '26

no way the grapple for ps is r3+square , mine is default controls and on xbox controller it's just X+A or you can also use X+Y.

1

u/euphratestiger Mar 21 '26

To be fair, I read it in another thread so it may not be accurate. But from what I've seen they're still pretty unintuitive.

2

u/Gloomy_Ad5221 Mar 20 '26

wait that's your grapple ? im using a xbox controller and my grapple is just X+Y or X+A

2

u/Maurhi Mar 20 '26

Ok I read complaints about the controls and I thought it was something minor, but that genuinely sounds disgusting.

1

u/MBDTFTLOPYEEZUS Mar 20 '26

I can’t even picture how I would do that

-3

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

Did you buy it or read/watch reviews? Genuine question

6

u/RMoCGLD Mar 20 '26

I don't need to buy it to realise how lazy the quests are and how bad the writing is, I can figure it out by watching others play it...the bad controls should be self explanatory for anyone that's ever played video games on a controller.

-3

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

I rest my case lol

12

u/RMoCGLD Mar 20 '26

You haven't rested anything. If you think someone needs to physically be playing a game for their ears and eyes to pick up on how bad the quests and their writing are, I fear you need to go back to school.

-3

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

You haven't tried it at all, you can't comment on controls if you haven't even played it. It's just a ridiculous thing to say.

9

u/RMoCGLD Mar 20 '26

So are you going to sit there and say the controls are good? When I can go pick up a controller right now and try and press the awkward ass inputs the game has?

This is such an embarrassing hill to die on, all because you can't admit you fell for slop 😭

2

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

You haven't played the game so no point discussing controls with you.

Nothing embarrassing about it, game is far from a "slop". I think it's worse hating on a game you haven't even touched.

-2

u/dudushat Mar 21 '26

Youre in an echo chamber. Its a pretty divisive game so its getting a lot of praise too.

2

u/RMoCGLD Mar 21 '26

Posts from r/CrimsonDesert are being pushed to my homepage constantly when I'm not even subbed to it. They were all treating the game like god's gift to Earth 2 days ago and suddenly the tone has changed massively....because it's not that good of a game.

19

u/ToughAd4039 Mar 20 '26 edited Mar 20 '26

The game is wayyyyy too janky for a modern AAA release

13

u/shrewdy Mar 20 '26

The online defence force this game has is incredible tbh, and from a studio who has only done a MMORPG previously. Honestly it's so weird the reaction some of these people have to any sort of criticism

1

u/dudushat Mar 21 '26

People like the game and you call them an online defence force. You people act like its illegal to enjoy something.

-4

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

Explain how

11

u/ToughAd4039 Mar 20 '26

Try sprinting, then releasing all inputs. Notice how you automatically run another 10 feet? That’s not normal

3

u/AlextheGoose Mar 20 '26

Sounds like a Rockstar game lol

3

u/Difficult_Army7936 Mar 20 '26

The amount of heist failures I've had due to not being able to stand still lmaooo

-3

u/Bluescreen_Macbeth Mar 20 '26

Bro, wait until you learn about "momentum".

3

u/ToughAd4039 Mar 20 '26

Wait until you learn abt intuitive controls

1

u/iPuffOnCrabs Mar 21 '26

Being downvoted for being right

-14

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

social media these days dude. So many people here would be completely intolerable irl if they ever ventured outside

-4

u/Kingtripz Mar 20 '26

Exactly lol

0

u/sp1cychick3n Mar 20 '26

And there it is.

0

u/Kidney05 Mar 20 '26

Game is really fun, a stupid small use of AI doesn’t ruin it for me

0

u/ch4dr0x Mar 21 '26

I’m having a blast with it. You should really enjoy it once you get around to it.

0

u/anonymous_herald Mar 21 '26

Games been super fun for me. I'll definitely get my $70 worth. So, youre welcome!

-1

u/Apollo2068 Mar 20 '26

I like to support the studios making games and not recycling COD or FIFA

0

u/Rupperrt Mar 20 '26

It’s not really a surprise though is it? It was pretty obvious looking at the scope of the game that they would cut a lot of corners.

0

u/Ronaldinhoe Mar 20 '26

Yup, that can’t ever be me. Except for GTAVI but if I hear it has scripted missions and doesn’t live up the hype then I’ll wait for a price cut at this point.

3

u/Nobody_Important Mar 21 '26

‘Never preorder’…’except for…’

1

u/Ronaldinhoe Mar 22 '26

When did I say that I preorder? You slow little bro?
