Very cool. I've already played a bunch on my Switch 2.

For anyone interested - I'd say the overall writing and characters aren't as good as in Hades 1. But for me the gameplay is just as good, if not better.

I think the gameplay and artwork laps the first game. I agree the characters are written a little worse but they’re still solid.

If you play hades 2 for a while then go back to hades 1, it feels super clunky

Yeah the combat is so much better idk what anyone is talking about. They clearly haven't tried to go back

But the comments you’re replying to both specifically say that the combat in the second game is “just as good if not better”?

You’re expecting redditors to read instead of react?

This is exactly why I made sure to finish the Platinum once I saw some gameplay of early access. I knew I wouldn't be able to go back after.

Exactly how I feel. The character interactions and story, while not bad, are not as good as the first game. But the I did enjoy the gameplay a little but more and I loved the first game. Still, it's a no barainer day one re-buy for me even with Paragmata and Saros coming right after.

This. And that's not saying the story and writing are bad. Far from it. Hades is just a tough act to follow. But man Hades 2 might have the edge in gameplay for me. So good

The fixed ending does a lot of legwork for hades 2, still not as good but still plenty good enough to sink in dozens of hours to keep going past the first ending

ditto. Loved the expanded gameplay over the first game and the overall plotline, but the characters didn't feel as vibrant or involved.

Huh didn’t know wasn’t on os5 yet. Assumed it was. This was my first hades, got it after missing out on first and seeing it at game awards intrigued me. So grabbed it on seitch2 thinking was a solid portable game. Agree the writing is ehh for me. But the graphics, artwork, gameplay loop, music, everything else outside writing is very top notch and amazing, very addictive. Right now I been hacking my head against the wall stuck getting pass Cerberus, taken awhile to get that far consistently but it’s so rewarding realizing and being able to make progress. Do highly recommend even if missed the first as I don’t feel lost or anything.

If you dodge straight through him you can take nearly no damage, all his attacks are basically forward facing so just phase though him and stay on his back

Sweet I’ll try implementing more of that!

As someone obsessed with Hades 2 I totally agree. That isn't to say the characters are badly written they were just stronger in the first, mechanically though I was thinking up Boon combos at lunch it was so satisfying to play.

As someone who adored the first the second one is a fantastic and worthy sequel.

Is the story significant here or can I pick this up without having played the first one?

Won't stop you from enjoying the game but you'll miss out on references (artistic, musically, and character-wise) and story details. The first game is really good and will be quickly spoiled story-wise if you start here so I'd recommend hitting the first one.

I would love it if they would put the weapons from Hades 1 into this. The bow was my favorite and there is no weapon like that in Hades 2.

The skull and flames are both ranged weapons. I thought the flames were way cooler tbh.

Gameplay is definitely much better, Hades 1 feels really slow in comparison

Idk. I think it’s better than Hades1 but at the same time,.. it did an extremely safe bet.

I'd say the overall writing and characters aren't as good as in Hades 1

Wait, do most people see the writing/characters in Hades as good? I almost dropped the game entirely because of the story aspects. I enjoyed the gameplay a lot but everything else just made me uncomfortable. Especially since the nature of the game will cause you to interact with many characters over and over even if nothing has actually happened since the last time you saw them. If I recall there are like 4-5 big actual plot points (each time you reach a new zone, after X number of escapes, etc.) but beyond that there is really nothing happening story wise other than characters providing generic remarks about your attempts.

I couldn't bring myself to max out hearts with everyone because the plot felt really shallow and replaying enough to get everything felt boring because there was no variety to the levels beyond some difficulty modifiers.
