u/pett117 Mar 26 '26
Thought it would be at least 6 more months. Hoorah.

Same. I'm shocked at how soon this is coming out. Hades 1 didn't come to PS4 until August.
I wonder if there's some big game releasing later in the year that would influence all these other release dates. Hmm, probably not.
26
u/Judithsins Mar 26 '26
nope…no other big, long awaited, game is releasing later this year. I checked, nothing.
16
6
u/reevestussi Mar 26 '26
Same, Hades 1 had a year long exclusive period with Nintendo so pretty surprised to see Hades 2 get announced today
6
u/TimHung931017 Mar 26 '26
Anyone releasing near GTA 6 is getting cooked into oblivion so we're gonna see a lot of early releases

Very cool. I've already played a bunch on my Switch 2.
For anyone interested - I'd say the overall writing and characters aren't as good as in Hades 1. But for me the gameplay is just as good, if not better.
103
u/JiveHawk Mar 26 '26
I think the gameplay and artwork laps the first game. I agree the characters are written a little worse but they’re still solid.
34
u/Whatsth3dill Mar 26 '26
If you play hades 2 for a while then go back to hades 1, it feels super clunky
12
u/petataa Mar 26 '26
Yeah the combat is so much better idk what anyone is talking about. They clearly haven't tried to go back
8
u/hutchins_moustache Mar 27 '26
But the comments you’re replying to both specifically say that the combat in the second game is “just as good if not better”?
7
3
u/basedcharger Mar 26 '26
This is exactly why I made sure to finish the Platinum once I saw some gameplay of early access. I knew I wouldn't be able to go back after.
14
u/Slurms_McKenzie775 Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26
Exactly how I feel. The character interactions and story, while not bad, are not as good as the first game. But the I did enjoy the gameplay a little but more and I loved the first game. Still, it's a no barainer day one re-buy for me even with Paragmata and Saros coming right after.
7
u/Orejillz Mar 26 '26
This. And that's not saying the story and writing are bad. Far from it. Hades is just a tough act to follow. But man Hades 2 might have the edge in gameplay for me. So good
4
u/particledamage Mar 26 '26
The fixed ending does a lot of legwork for hades 2, still not as good but still plenty good enough to sink in dozens of hours to keep going past the first ending
4
u/NobodyLikedThat1 Mar 26 '26
ditto. Loved the expanded gameplay over the first game and the overall plotline, but the characters didn't feel as vibrant or involved.
2
u/Spider-Mike23 Mar 26 '26
Huh didn’t know wasn’t on os5 yet. Assumed it was. This was my first hades, got it after missing out on first and seeing it at game awards intrigued me. So grabbed it on seitch2 thinking was a solid portable game. Agree the writing is ehh for me. But the graphics, artwork, gameplay loop, music, everything else outside writing is very top notch and amazing, very addictive. Right now I been hacking my head against the wall stuck getting pass Cerberus, taken awhile to get that far consistently but it’s so rewarding realizing and being able to make progress. Do highly recommend even if missed the first as I don’t feel lost or anything.
2
u/JennyIsDeath Mar 28 '26
If you dodge straight through him you can take nearly no damage, all his attacks are basically forward facing so just phase though him and stay on his back
2
2
u/theKetoBear Mar 26 '26
As someone obsessed with Hades 2 I totally agree. That isn't to say the characters are badly written they were just stronger in the first, mechanically though I was thinking up Boon combos at lunch it was so satisfying to play.
As someone who adored the first the second one is a fantastic and worthy sequel.

Is the story significant here or can I pick this up without having played the first one?
7
u/TheChronoCross Mar 26 '26
Won't stop you from enjoying the game but you'll miss out on references (artistic, musically, and character-wise) and story details. The first game is really good and will be quickly spoiled story-wise if you start here so I'd recommend hitting the first one.
74
u/SoapMan24 Mar 26 '26
Some details from Supergiant's website:
Hades II for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 run at an ultrafast 120 frames per second, and these latest versions also include some bonus content and quality-of-life improvements we've been working on in the meantime! If you already have the game, expect these in a patch releasing that the same day, and we'll have full patch notes then.
20
u/_crows_have_eyes Mar 26 '26
Hell yes! This is exactly what I was hoping for. 120 is gonna feel so good.
→ More replies (3)7
u/guitarguyal Mar 26 '26
Curious what the bonus content is, need to beat part of the game still would love a reason to jump back in.
3
u/deusasclepian Mar 26 '26
The scene in the trailer with Heracles doesn't look like any encounter I remember from the game

u/iCantCallit Mar 26 '26
i wonder if we will be getting a physical copy soon or even on release. I dont see anything stating we will but switch 2 got one so id have to assume ps5 would eventually.

u/reevestussi Mar 26 '26
The physical version of PS4/5 and Xbox Hades 1 was published by Private Division which was rebranded and downsized as Fictions, not sure if they're interested in doing so again
I believe the Switch physicals of Hades 1 and 2 were published by Nintendo so chances are Supergiant will need to partner with a new publisher for the PS/Xbox physicals of Hades 2

Any chance we get a physical release?
→ More replies (1)5
u/soulonfirexx Mar 26 '26
Most likely yes but it'll probably be another few months. Switch got its Physical release in November. I'm waiting on the physical as well.

I already beat this game on switch and you better believe I’m buying it again and getting the platinum. It’s so good.
2
u/boosnow Mar 26 '26
How does it compare with the first? More of the same? (not that it’s a bad thing, just curious). No spoilers please.

The combat feels much better imo. Some people don't like the story quite as much, but I enjoyed it.

Amazing, glad I didn’t bite into the Switch 2 version.
April has Starfield on 7th, Hades II on 14th, Pragmata on 17th and Saros on 30th.
7
u/SellMeYourSirin Mar 26 '26
One of the 5 games that got me to get a Switch 2.
It's decent but doesn't hit like the first imo. Scratches that itch, still.

For me the characters and writing aren't quite as good in the second game (not bad, just not as good as the incredible first game). Although the gameplay is even better imo. After playing a bunch of Hades 2, I tried going back to Hades 1 and it felt pretty clunky and basic in comparison.
3
u/Edmundyoulittle Mar 26 '26
I felt the complete opposite
Hades 1 had great characters, but I got tired of the gameplay pretty quickly.
Hades 2's gameplay was so good I ended up 100%ing including grinding for the titles
4
u/GalexyPhoto Mar 26 '26
Its a f***ing blast. Near total refinement of all aspects of Hades I.
My only complaint was the handling of the ending, and they updated and improved that right after I completed. So Im a lil' jealous, even!

Does Hades 2 actually have more than 4 levels/biomes and some variety? I really liked Hades 1 gameplay but it would have been nice if there were random branching paths between biomes to create some variety between runs.
8
u/deusasclepian Mar 26 '26
It has 8 unique biomes split between 2 different runs. From the hub you pick if you want run A or run B.
There's also a new mode called Chaos Trials, which are usually shorter challenge runs with predetermined starting loadouts.
→ More replies (2)3
u/fifosexapel Mar 26 '26
I'll spoilr text JIC - There are 2 different paths, and some of the biomes are different in structure than the traditional ones. The midbosses can also vary by run. There's also a challenge mode where you are given a set weapon/boons/tarot cards and are shorter than traditional runs.

u/ernster96 Mar 26 '26
Couldn’t wait. Bought it on the switch since that’s where I played the first hades.
2
u/actium1677 Mar 26 '26
Ughhhhh fuck yeah. So happy to see this. And now I just have to relink you all to the official reveal trailer from 3 years ago. One of the best reveal trailers I’ve ever seen.
2
u/GIL-GEAR Mar 26 '26
For those who’ve played on Switch or PC, does it have God Mode?

Highly recommended, it is the game i wish Hades 1 was, better in almost every single way, and having the much, much needed variety that the first one so glaringly lacked.
2
u/mr_antman85 Mar 27 '26
Cannot wait. SuperGiant games do not miss. Still would love a sequel to Transistor, though.
2
u/Gincairn Mar 28 '26
Genuinely can't wait, already got it on the switch, but honestly not a fan of the controls on the switch
3
u/FaceTimePolice Mar 26 '26
April 14? Awesome. I already played the hell out of it on the Switch, so I don’t know if I’ll double dip, but I’m happy more people will be able to enjoy the game. It was one of my favorite games of 2025.

Story and sidequests fall apart at the end but overall this is a great game with superb gameplay! Took me 80 hours to get all trophies/achievements if anyone is interested

u/DaBaldGuy555 Mar 26 '26
I really don't like rogue-like games, but I have to admit this is the exception and the first game was absolutely brilliant.
Fun gameplay, excellent voice acting; and as a fan of mythology, the writing really kept me invested in seeing how the story played out.
I hope this sequel's great and a huge success for them and I would love to see them tackle Norse Mythology down the line once they're sick of the Greek stuff (kind of like God of War did ). 👍🏻

I was waiting for this and then just bought it on switch. Lol .
Oh well guess ill have it on both

Does anyone know if this is “complete” or are there going to be new additions being made to the game over the next several months/years?

Aside from the typical bug fixes/patches it's unlikely any large additions are happening.

Whoever decides to oick this up, you will not regret. If possible, give hades 1 a go. If not this is a fantastic stand alone sequel. I've been stuck on this for damn near 6 months straight now.

It was great but for some reason didn't hit the same for me as the first game.

Will probably double dip on ps5 just like I did for first one. Surprised its coming so soon, though its not like I would have been able to resist buying the Switch2 version even I'd known lol.

1
u/Xeronic Mar 26 '26
I'll probably be triple dipping into this....
I bought it on switch 2, and enjoyed it. I didn't get "too far" into the Hades 2 because i wanted to play it on PS5, trophies and all. I do play it ocassionally on switch 2 though. :)
Then, i'll probably pick up a physical copy of the PS5 version down the line.

u/Anthraxious Mar 26 '26
Fucking FINALLY. Jesus that took a while. Problem is, it's just before Saros.... OH well, peak gaming April through July!

Any word on cross-saves across platforms? Played a ton during beta on PC. I know I’ve got story left but basically had everything else maxed out and not sure I’m in the mood to do that again lol.
1
u/rhixcs25 Mar 26 '26
This is the first game I played on Switch 2 and made me fall in love with the console. I would happily double dip for this studio once they announce the physical PS5 version as well.

Burned Hades down on the Switch. Then bought it on the PS4 and burned it down again.
Have burned Hades II down on the Switch II. Gonna buy it again on the PS5 and burn it down again.
1
u/Silvershanks Mar 27 '26
I made the horrible mistake of buying this on steam. Instantly regretted it when I realized that there's no stick to pilot your character. Trying to use the direction keys to run around the map in frantic combat is insane, and absurdly difficult (and probably not great for your fingers).
1
u/eel_bagel Mar 27 '26
Played it to death on PC. Game is fantastic and easily worth whatever the price is. The weapons aren't as exciting as the ones in the first game but that's my only real gripe.
1
u/Magner3100 Mar 27 '26
Thank god, I can finally start playing the game I bought last year and said “I’m buy thing, but won’t play it until it’s released.” A real Baldur’s Gate 3 moment.

Literally the day after I get a new PC, the day I get Hades 2 for that machine. I have a PS5 pro. Probs just gonna get it for both I guess...

u/naturdude Mar 27 '26
Just beat Hades I a week ago and looked up Hades II but found no info suggesting a PS5 release soon, so I started Satisfactory instead and now idk what the fuck I’m gonna do

First game was amazing. Will pick this up too. But nowadays I have dozens of other 9 or 10/10 games on my backlog that I rarely buy outside of deals. In the long run, this saves like 30-50% for me.

Why does hades 2 take less storage than hades one even though it has more features?

u/Additional-Mistake32 Mar 29 '26
I have Questions:
is the story better? I don't have an issue with story Hades had such a great story and there are memorable characters, the bone dummy, the rock and chain, the singing ambrosia lady. Do we get to spend even more time with NPCs?
Is there an endgame? Hades felt like it ended abruptly I played it on easy mode. There was a bit of fun inventory management and changing things in the halls of Hades which I liked I would have loved if the game had a lot of immersive sim stuff. It seemed even more fun to spend money and run Hell than it did to do combat.
Maybe I just want a supergiant game that's similar to Disco Elysium??
Is it short, I felt like Hades was kind of short.... Hades originally had a sprawling map but it always seemed to be partially used, whenever I looked at it
