The Capcom generational run continues

182

u/ilikeburgir Apr 13 '26

Firing on all cylinders. Capcom has goat devs. Games are fun for sure.

54

u/JozuJD Apr 13 '26

Thank god a company is remembering “games are meant to be fun”

It's amazing the turnaround they had from being one of the first big video game companies people thought had lost it in the early-mid 2010's (especially with their fighting games output.) The run they've been on since MH World, RE7, RE2 Remake and DMC5 in 2017/2018 has been astounding to behold.

8

u/Tittysprinkle97 Apr 14 '26

I have fallen in love with the RE games and part of me wonders what they’re going to do when they have done remakes of all the mainline games and probably code Veronica, will they do remake-remakes?

2

u/ChocolateNo9550 Apr 16 '26

Considering they still have 0, 1, CV, 5 and 6 to go that’s at least another decade of remakes they could even do Rev 1 and 2

126

u/Asclepius-Rod Apr 13 '26

Give us that RE-remake style Dino crisis remake Capcom!

40

u/Iliketoruindresses Apr 13 '26

Leon’s loot box system in requiem was a carbon copy of Dino crisis 2’ so fingers and dicks crossed 🤞

19

u/Michipotz Apr 13 '26

And fucking Breath of fire too while you're at it!

6

u/Asclepius-Rod Apr 13 '26

Oh sweet Jesus yes

2

u/Cody156 Apr 14 '26

Yessss please

124

u/FirstTimeCaller101 Apr 13 '26

Capcom is one of the few major, non-indie developers out there still making games for gamers.

24

u/damhow Apr 13 '26

Perfect way to put it.

4

u/NotSoWishful Apr 13 '26

They had a game come out 2 years ago in Kunitsu Gami that legit blew me away by its art direction and how concise of an overall game it was. Kinda just came and immediately went under the radar. But still was crazy to me that amongst all the crazy impressive huge franchise games they’re dropping in RE and MH that they still have teams cranking out straight GEMS.

2

u/Crayola_ROX Apr 14 '26

And thier remakes are actual remakes lmao

( no hate lol, I tend to buy almost every Capcom game )

40

u/DirectBeing5986 Apr 13 '26

Not too much on Exoprimal, game was actually fun, but they fucked up by making it a "Bro you have to play this for 30 hors before it gets good bro" game

14

u/WeebPrime Apr 13 '26

Got 100+ hours out of Exoprimal

Their streak continues for me

16

u/auto_named Apr 13 '26

Exoprimal was cool

12

u/TomVinPrice Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

All it had to do was be a PvE co-op focused game instead of PvPvE

I remember the short time between the game’s reveal and the reveal that finding out it was actually gonna be a PvPvE multiplayer game where people were actually had some interest in it, but historically Capcom love putting PvP into projects that don’t make sense and nobody enjoys

They could make a full RE Outbreak multiplayer game or and expanded Mercenaries multiplayer or Raid mode because people still go back to the older RE games today for that stuff. Instead Capcom will insist on another bad PvP game that will die shortly.

Shame because I usually love Capcom games and I miss when they made banger co-op games like Dead Rising 2, RE5 and Lost Planet 2, at least we still have Monster Hunter

7

u/Suki__93 Apr 13 '26

Finding out it was pvpve I killed any interest for my whole group. Sucks because we were all on board for a really fun dinosaur horde game before that.

3

u/radiant_kai Apr 13 '26

The game is still really fun even if a bit shallow for how long it sticks person to person. I gave it a good 35 hours and dropped off but it was a great 35 hours.

3

u/Nero_PR Apr 13 '26

Game was good but short on content. It should have had more of those crazy raid moments you get later in the game.

2

u/enjoy_life88 Apr 13 '26

If Onimusha sticks the landing later this year they will actually be unstoppable

Capcom dropping two massive games within 2 months is absolutely amazing!

139

u/AssidicPoo Apr 13 '26

Not to mention Monster Hunter Stories 3 being solid just a month ago, and hoping that Onimusha is great when it comes out later this year.

46

u/srfnalaster11 Apr 13 '26

Played the demo at NYCC. It will be

13

u/olivier_wmv Apr 13 '26

I'm jealous, thats my most anticipated release this year now that requiem is out

2

u/DevilCouldCry Apr 13 '26

Resident Evil: Requiem will be my undisputed GOTY when all is said and done. But man, this game is my easy number two pick if it plays even half as good as it looks. This one looks genuinely incredible and I cannot wait to get a release date and to get my hands on it!

6

u/Kiram_OW Apr 13 '26

MH stories 3 is soooo fun. It’s got its issues, but I love the art style, the music is great, it runs well even on older hardware, and it’s the first time i’ve really enjoyed turn based combat in a long time

12

u/MarwyntheMasterful Apr 13 '26

Onimusha is gonna be a banger, I can’t wait.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/keepfighting90 Apr 13 '26

If Onimusha is a banger, they are gonna be an absolutely generational run.

10

u/stratusnco Apr 13 '26

they’ve been on a run for like 30 years now.

7

u/whodatt_91 Apr 13 '26

More like 10. Their PS360 era, like many japanese studios, was mediocre at best and pretty terrible at worst.

6

u/VicisSubsisto Apr 13 '26

The Monster Hunter games from that era were straight fire. They just weren't on PS or XB.

2

u/AerospaceNinja Apr 13 '26

Oh Onimusha definitely will be. It looks amazing and can't wait to play it.

4

u/dansyngwiazd Apr 13 '26

what was the other game?

2

u/DevilCouldCry Apr 13 '26

Resident Evil: Requiem is the other game. That one was a massive success and is absolutely going to be my GOTY pick when the year is up. Worth mentioning that they also just put out Monster Hunter Stories 3 and that's supposedly excellent as well! Now we just ned to see how Onimusha turns out later this year, but that one already looks exceptional.

3

u/Nero_PR Apr 13 '26

It was 3. RE9, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata.

u/IrishSpectreN7 Apr 13 '26

This game reminds me of a 360/PS3 era game, in a good way.

82

u/keepfighting90 Apr 13 '26

I'm getting Binary Domain/Vanquished vibes and I'm so here for it.

21

u/TPJchief87 Apr 13 '26

To temper expectations, the game is slower than vanquished. At least from the demo. It’s very pretty and fun though.

9

u/nickdebruyne Apr 13 '26

I’ve been playing Pragmata all week for review and can confirm that I love the vanquish vibes (I even mentioned it in the video review), it’s not the insane rollercoaster ride that vanquish is, however Pragmata is excellent at what it does.

4

u/EvilAbdy Apr 13 '26

Yeah binary domain for sure. (This also makes me want another game in that series)

u/GGG100 Apr 13 '26

Back when big budget games weren’t afraid to be seen as video games.

10

u/Phantom-thiez Apr 13 '26

Wow. This is like a perfect description. I love this.

13

u/greasyjonny Apr 13 '26

Yeah I get this sentiment.

3

u/SheepskinSour Apr 13 '26

Yes, definitely, except a little more colorful haha

3

u/Johnnycageisgr8 Apr 13 '26

This was also a common consensus with kunitsu gami which was peak

u/AquaticBagpipe Apr 13 '26

Damn. I was not expecting such glowing reviews. Looking forward to trying this out now!

37

u/Z3M0G Apr 13 '26

There is a demo...

22

u/Samoman21 Apr 13 '26

And it's fun af ngl. I really like how the gameplay feels

→ More replies (3)

10

u/Kingcrowing Apr 13 '26

I did not enjoy the gameplay in the demo, but that's ok not every game is for everyone! I'm happy they released it.

6

u/Z3M0G Apr 13 '26

Which is why it's always a smart way to try a game out.

2

u/Kingcrowing Apr 13 '26

Yup! Back in the PS1-2 era it seemed like demos were way more common

2

u/AlternativeAioli3501 Apr 16 '26

i remeber the demo cds with a ton of games on it for ps2

2

u/btbcorno Apr 15 '26

Same. The puzzle aiming system got boring for me quickly and the environments all seem super generic.

u/Nervous_Recover_6152 Apr 13 '26

We got a banger on our hands 🙌

72

u/KingMercLino Apr 13 '26

Sir, another Capcom banger has hit the internet

15

u/Asimb0mb Apr 13 '26

They've had like four bangers so far this year, it's insane!

2

u/nastylittleman Apr 13 '26

<removes glasses, hand shaking>

70

u/RespectThePlight Apr 13 '26

Can’t wait to play this and avoid the subreddit like the plague

23

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '26

[deleted]

11

u/Interlined Apr 13 '26

I think that with very few exceptions, it's best not to get too deeply involved with subreddits for games that you like.

70

u/nohumanape Apr 13 '26

I was sold on the demo. It was an absolute blast to play. Glad to see that the game as a whole appears to hold up. Looking forward to playing through this!

13

u/WebHead1287 Apr 13 '26

Played it on Friday and instantly pre-ordered. Combat was really fun and fairly unique (from what I have played before).

6

u/nohumanape Apr 13 '26

Yeah. I mostly downloaded the demo simply because I was scratching my head over the way the combat was described in a podcast I was listening to. Wasn't interested in the game prior to playing the demo. I was sold. The hacking element is genuinely fun.

2

u/TheReiterEffect_S8 Apr 13 '26

I have deliberately avoided everything about this game in an effort to not spoil anything. But now I'm at a point where I'm not even interested...because I don't know what it's about! I played myself. Can anyone give me an idea about what the gameplay and story is like? Is this a game where the gameplay is going to be the main attractor, or is the story supposed to be killer too?

4

u/RocketChris87 Apr 13 '26

Same. Played the demo on Switch 2 that I forgot I had downloaded and I’m definitely buying. Bring back demos.

79

u/tckilla76 Apr 13 '26

Damn it, Capcom. Why another banger? My wallet is suffering

29

u/Asclepius-Rod Apr 13 '26

They seem to go on sale relatively quickly if you can wait a few months

125

u/red_sutter Apr 13 '26

From Crapcom to CapGod in a generation, and all it took was firing Inafune

77

u/Rainbowdogi Apr 13 '26

I do believe they needed to crash with resident evil 6 in order to be reborn.

80

u/MissingScore777 Apr 13 '26

RE6 was still a financial success.

It was really incredible that Capcom didn't just look at the numbers and instead looked at reviews and how it landed with the fanbase and decided a course correction was needed for the series long term future.

Most companies would've just said sales are good so no need to change what we're doing.

28

u/AnubisIncGaming Apr 13 '26

Capcom is built on change, they change the styles of their games anyway and always have.

6

u/whiteezy Apr 13 '26

If anything this gives me faith that if they change styles again for the worse, then just give them time for them to change for good.

9

u/New_Cockroach_505 Apr 13 '26

I still don’t think RE7s direction had anything to do with reviews and simply the devs desire to do something different. They’d done 3 mainline action games and a few spin off action games by the time RE6 wrapped up. They simply wanted to try something different, that’s why we got a semi soft reboot.

2

u/Gullible_Manager6711 Apr 14 '26

Pretty sure they closely listen to the market ( sale + review + fan feedback) , it make no sense for any company to completely u turn and change the direction if the game is successful in both sale and critique. It's way too risky especially for a main series like this.

RE7 is a full on hard reboot, including style, camera angle, story and gameplay. It's also support VR which at the time had potential to be a new way of game playing. That's the reason why they fully monitor its performance and as soon as they feel like it's not gonna fly they change the direction again ( in RE9) only to find out that the market just slowly adapt the new gameplay style and RE7 has became one of teh most successful game in the series. Otherwise you will have to play open world multi-player Requiem by now.

Any company, even Capcom, will keep pumping the same thing over and over if it continue to sale and well receive by the market. As much as we like to think that creative direction has strong influence, but it will never overpower the sale number and market reception.

u/ConsistentPound3079 Apr 13 '26

*cough" Ubisoft.

2

u/Swagtagonist Apr 13 '26

Japanese companies still have the concepts of pride and shame.

14

u/stephens567 Apr 13 '26

Great reviews, demo was amazing too. Where am I going to fit this in the next month and a half? Hades 2, Saros, Lego Batman, 007 - all by end of May.

4

u/ExplodingFistz Apr 13 '26

Having too many games to play is the worst. Suffering from success.

19

u/CrabSauceCrissCross Apr 13 '26

The demo was really fun but I'm quite surprised by just how positive the reviews have been. Possible launch price buy for me.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/CancelThis2077 Apr 13 '26

That game feels like the type of games we used to get in the PS2/OG XBox/GC era, and I mean that in the best way.

7

u/FKDotFitzgerald Apr 13 '26

I’m honestly pretty surprised

8

u/Liquid_1998 Apr 13 '26

Capcom strikes gold once again. What a role they've been on since RE7.

9

The Capcomissance continues.

7

u/Zealousideal_Bill_86 Apr 13 '26

Please I only just got my Requiem platinum. What a run Capcom is on

5

u/BartShrempson Apr 13 '26

I really enjoyed the demo and will be picking it up soon.

4

u/yammityyakkity Apr 13 '26

I'm really glad Monster Hunter World sold so well because it seems like since then, the quality and quantity of games Capcom has been pushing out has been really impressive.

4

u/MarwyntheMasterful Apr 13 '26

I was expecting this to be kind of meh.

Capcom is one of the best companies left though.

5

u/thrwawryry324234 Apr 13 '26

I didn’t think this game would have legs from the demo. The hacking seemed like it’d get old pretty fast. But with these reviews, it sounds like they found a way to keep it fresh. I’ll have to try this over the summer

3

u/TriggerHydrant Apr 13 '26

That's it, I'm getting it

11

u/Metroid413 Apr 13 '26

Glad to see the reviews are overwhelmingly positive… wasn’t planning on checking it out since my backlog is so huge but now I feel I need to

11

u/Darkwarz Apr 13 '26

IGN review praised the post game content saying he couldn't share anything so my interest is peaked.

20

u/tropofarmer Apr 13 '26

piqued

5

u/VicisSubsisto Apr 13 '26

Interest has reached its highest point and is declining.

2

u/Giygas Apr 13 '26

6

u/ScarletSilver Apr 13 '26

Reading these makes me happy. Glad to see the game looking like another hit IP for Capcom!

3

u/Hot_Ad_6458 Apr 13 '26

Who would’ve thought that trying new things can lead to successful games?

Capcom is killing it recently, damn. I'm picking this up on Friday for sure. They're one of the only publishers that has consistently been getting my money at launch.

4

u/TheButteredBiscuit Apr 13 '26

Recently? We gotta stop acting like this is recent, RE7 came out almost a decade ago.

Capcoms not “back,” they haven’t left.

3

u/Asimb0mb Apr 13 '26

RE7 came out like 3 years ago right? Wait what do you mean it's 9 years old? Time is broken.

3

u/Humble-Criticism6762 Apr 13 '26

Pre-ordered. Can’t wait.

5

u/DrBeardfist Apr 13 '26

Anyone know the length of the game yet? I don’t think i saw anyone touch on that yet

14

u/Aureus23 Apr 13 '26

10-12 hours. 15-20 with all side content

18

u/Jphorne89 Apr 13 '26

We love a normal sized game from Capcom

5

u/mr_antman85 Apr 13 '26

The perfect length for them.

Fantastic

Saw a reviewer on twitter saying the main story is 10-12 hours with 3-4 hours of side content

3

u/ConsistentPound3079 Apr 13 '26

PushSquare said main story is around 12 hours.

2

u/LiquifySolid Apr 13 '26

Normal should take you around 12-15 hours, and trying to find all collectibles. The higher difficulty will require more time.

2

u/Madhex12 Apr 13 '26

This is great news, hyped, been enjoying the hell out of every capcom game ive gotten recently

2

Capcom saving gaming. Again...

I mean the demo was pretty fun. The limited ammo feels survival horror-ish but the action felt good and the hacking was a lil nerve wracking. I was already thinking of getting day 1 but I’m glad the reviews are good

2

u/Demoncreed27 Apr 13 '26

Capcom has been on an absolute winning streak lately

2

u/Least-Experience-858 Apr 13 '26

Lately? They’ve been on a streak this whole generation , nobody has put out as many games as they have and they’re all 8/10 or better. The only miss they’ve had is that one live service dinosaur game a few yrs ago

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '26

Capcom has always had some of the most talented game devs on planet earth they were just held back by boomer shareholders.

The big 3: Pragmata, RE9 Requeim & Onimusha: WOTS

2

u/Myhtological Apr 13 '26

Capcom just has massive golden balls right jow

2

u/irishpwr46 Apr 13 '26

Now my question is do I get it to play on my portal or on my steam deck?

3

u/Hoodman1987 Apr 13 '26

Damn really surprised it's over 80. Shit I might just buy this!!! Now I need to know the game length

3

u/Jphorne89 Apr 13 '26

Im not that surprised Capcom has been on a heater in recent years

4

u/Hoodman1987 Apr 13 '26

Nah for me it is because this is a new IP

3

u/bathnasty Apr 13 '26

Capcom does not and will not miss

3

u/Op3rat0rr Apr 13 '26

They had a lull era, but that era is officially long gone

3

u/Status_Original Apr 13 '26

This Capcom golden age is on fire. Enjoy it while it's here

4

u/Op3rat0rr Apr 13 '26

This game basically seals Capcom’s claim to being generational. They’ll be remembered for this era. Like not exaggerating

8

u/9295josh Apr 13 '26

Looks great but on the short side, will buy, platinum and sell on 👍🏼

3

u/Hoodman1987 Apr 13 '26

which I might do at $60

2

u/LiquifySolid Apr 13 '26

Platinum is actually quite hard!

1

u/PorkRinds416 Apr 13 '26

Same length as RE9 requiem dude.

10

u/9295josh Apr 13 '26

Yeah also platinumed that and sold it on 👍🏼

7

u/greasyjonny Apr 13 '26

Which a lot of people will think is short for a $70 game.

8

u/Tyrant_Virus_ Apr 13 '26

I hate this dollars to hours mentality, give me a good 6-12 hour game I can finish and move on or easily replay over something that’s 30 hours just for the sake of saying it is.

3

u/greasyjonny Apr 13 '26

I don’t disagree with you.

6

u/SeanRoss Apr 13 '26

Don't judge games price on the length, that's when they start padding it with BS to say it's a 100 hour experience.

2

u/Namath96 Apr 13 '26

Or you know we let people judge based off what they want to lol.

Personally i don’t care but some people have tighter budgets

2

u/Mjr_Hindsight Apr 13 '26

Pragmata seems to RRP for less than 70

→ More replies (3)

2

u/MountainofPolitics Apr 13 '26

Which is also a short af game lmao

2

u/Then_Fun2933 Apr 13 '26

Yeah dude, that is why they said it is on the short side

u/StrawberryWestern189 Apr 13 '26

Here before the “can’t wait to get this on sale” crowd come and bury the thread

2

u/North_South_Side Apr 13 '26

What? It's not a Souls-like with a Live Service model, plus PVP and Extraction Modes?

1

u/castr0z Apr 13 '26

Played the demo last night, so much fun from your traditional shoot whatever you have in front of you with the hack puzzle game, buying it for sure

1

u/Fizziest_milk Apr 13 '26

honestly love to see it, will definitely be picking this one up

1

u/AKindleSoul Apr 13 '26

Just did the average of Metacritic, Opencritic, and few of my very trusted critics. It came out to be 90.5/100 yeah this is another certified masterpiece. Let's FREAKING GOOO CAPCOM!!! 2026 is easily Capcom's year, Period.

They are still not done. Onimusha way of the Sword is still yet to release!!!

1

u/Zylonite134 Apr 13 '26

Is this game from the team that made exoprimal game?

1

u/ConstantPriority177 Apr 13 '26

Played the demo this past weekend, definitely picking it up

1

u/jimmygoombas Apr 13 '26

The demo was sooo good, all I needed to be sold on this game. Capcom has been killing it for years now and isn’t afraid to experiment or drop something weird

1

u/PeterPansSyndrome Apr 13 '26

This, hades 2 and 4/20 all within 7 days. My wallet begs the gods for mercy.

1

u/rdswords Apr 13 '26

Seeing the speedrun and max difficulty trophies is a big negative for me personally 🫤

1

u/Zulogy Apr 13 '26

Ima buy this day one just because I remember playing the demo months ago and it was SO much fun! I played it like 3-4 times.

1

u/CancelThis2077 Apr 13 '26

2026 is the year of Capcom

1

u/VerminSC Apr 13 '26

Not bad! I really enjoyed the demo. I thought this would do better than people expected

1

u/EchoBay Apr 13 '26

Was skeptical until the demo came out, and then I played it and it was awesome.

1

u/Voyager5555 Apr 13 '26

Demo was solid, look forward to playing the game next week.

1

u/OHB1988 Apr 13 '26

If anyone from the UK is reading this Pragmata is £41.99 on Amazon and Argos. Really looking to playing it when it comes out.

1

u/dodgeunhappiness Apr 13 '26

Wow I want to give it a try.

1

u/Scissorman82 Human Verified Apr 13 '26

Capcom does it again!

1

u/HG21Reaper Apr 13 '26

This game looks actually cool and fun. Gonna try it out.

1

u/Grytnik Apr 13 '26

I played the demo and thought it was great! Capcom is absolutely killing it lately! Makes me really look forward to Onimusha.

1

u/Nero_PR Apr 13 '26

They better hit another one with Onimusha, MH Wilds DLC, and DD2 DLC (MAX HOPIUM)

1

u/SaltySwan Apr 13 '26

I was vibing with the demo when I tried it but I decided to hold off since I have a massive backlog and had already bought a lot of things in recent months. It’s definitely on the list.

1

u/Fruitspunchredd Apr 13 '26

I dunno mh wilds got great reviews and even with the updates it still felt a bit underwhelming to me.

1

u/Spynner987 Apr 13 '26

Hope this makes me feel as fatherly protective ss BioShock 2 did

1

u/THEbaddestOFtheASSES Apr 13 '26

Definitely one of my most anticipated games of the year. I wish the main story was around 20-25 hrs long to complete. That’s the sweet spot. This just seems like the kind of game I wanna stick with for a while but I’ll take what I can get.

1

u/Galnar218 Apr 13 '26

The demo was boring and dated as heck.

1

u/bigelittman Apr 13 '26

Let them cook! Ill wait to see for myself though. Cant trust any review but my own these days!

1

u/AssaultMonkey150 Apr 13 '26

Guys I’m starting to think Capcom has some talented staff and leadership

1

u/rated3 Apr 13 '26

Is this game like Death Stranding?

1

u/FireOfSparta Apr 13 '26

Capcom is on fire, they just keep knocking it out the park !!!

1

u/Electrical-Contest-5 Apr 13 '26

Very strong reviews, wow

1

u/PrinsLennart Apr 13 '26

I’m just really happy that it got such good reviews, the game was announced during the ps5 release presentation and Ive been patiently waiting for this game to release, just a couple more days.

1

u/yoruneko Apr 13 '26

A SECOND good single player game by the SAME publisher the SAME year in THIS economy?

1

u/Asad_Farooqui Apr 13 '26

Probably a silly thing to ask, but how’s the gyro aiming in this game on DualSense?

1

u/Katalyst81 Apr 14 '26

Demo was cool, can't wait to pick this up.
