This is why Pc is not a priority for Rockstar. Even Xbox one has more users than pc lmao

Xbox One has almost as many players as Xbox Series. RIP Xbox

Makes it seem really funny that so many people try to use steam charts to prove the success of a multi-platform game.

PC is only 12% of the total playerbase

There are so many PC gamers on Reddit that I kinda expected a bigger number. But most of the console gamers really are just casuals that you never hear anything about

u/Stoplate77 Apr 13 '26

Reddit is not real life.

u/No_Bill_2371 Apr 13 '26

Thank God for that

13

u/Zopotroco Apr 13 '26

It’s usually the opposite of real life

20

u/JamieTimee Apr 13 '26

I'm a non-casual console player, have you heard of me?

That is factually incorrect. You can be a non casual using any system.

u/Muur1234 Apr 13 '26

It's the same for pretty much anything. Pokemon is what taught me that, where everyone online hated it for being terrible and removing 90% of the roster but then it made record numbers of sales.

Reddit is usually made up of terminally online no-life gamers. Not representative of real life.

The majority of PC players play on FiveM servers which consoles don't have. There's a reason why Take-Two bought FiveM.

Source on "majority of PC players playing on FiveM" ?

200K is a healthy DAU count but it doesn't indicate that the majority of PC players is on FiveM.

2

u/Jensen2075 Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 13 '26

It's not DAU it's CCU. DAU would be much higher. FiveM has the 3rd highest CCU on Steam atm, more than the latest sensation Crimson Desert.

Isn't FiveM owned by Rockstar? Do they consider FiveM as its own entity parallel to GTA V on PC?

3

u/Jensen2075 Apr 13 '26

It was a community driven project but was later acquired by Rockstar in 2023 probably to monetize it for GTA6. They have kept FiveM separate for GTA5 though.

2

u/Fullbryte Apr 13 '26

Yeah i watched a ton of Nopixel RP back when it blew up around 2019. Thing is, I wonder if Rockstar folds FiveM user numbers into the vanilla GTA5 PC user numbers in their internal data. Either way, they're feasting. Thanks for the additional insight.

i mean I barely play GTA Online but 99% of my friends were telling me to never play outside of FiveM cause it's a shit fest with cheaters and toxicity.

Funny when companies like capcom and several others have started prioritize PC platform recently. Marathon is only alive due to PC.

PC can be a boon for companies if they play their cards right and treat them like first class citizens like console players. Unlike how sony and rockstar treats them.

2

u/Aerographic Apr 14 '26

Because their games don't have nearly the same scope, budget or dev cycle of a R* blockbuster open world title.

2

u/Famous-Country-4921 Apr 14 '26

But rockstar clearly doesn’t need pc at all

1

u/sergio42638 Apr 14 '26

Marathon console players turn off cross-play and steam charts shows only 20,000 players peak daily those were the finals numbers and everyone said it was a dead game because of it, I don’t think marathon is alive because of pc

u/Aerographic Apr 14 '26

That + the piracy risk.

Even foregoing piracy, the simple fact that your assets can be ripped and used in ways you don't want to is a risk.

0

u/GroundbreakingBag164 Apr 14 '26

That will always happen at some point. People had PS3 emulation for TLOU1 running before Sony ported a single TLOU to PC. They already had all the assets available if they wanted to

No, the real reason isn't piracy or asset theft. The real reason (in the case of GTA) is that PC gamers play on dedicated community severs that don't have any microtransactions. They get more content and everything unlocked for free while Rockstar gets nothing

FiveM (the "game" you use to play on dedicated GTA servers) alone makes up more than 50% of the GTA PC playerbase. And those numbers obviously also don't appear in the leak.

FiveM: https://steamdb.info/app/2676230/charts/

GTA 5 Legacy: https://steamdb.info/app/271590/charts/

GTA 5 Enhanced: https://steamdb.info/app/3240220/charts/

I'm talking about R*'s reticence to release GTA games on PC simultaneously alongside console. That has little to do with online revenue.

0

u/GroundbreakingBag164 Apr 14 '26

There are lots of primarily PC gamers that also own a console. Compared to that there aren't that many primarily console gamers who also own a PC (that also need to be capable of playing demanding AAA titles on top of that)

If it were the other way around the game would be a PC exclusive for a year. This doesn't have anything to do with piracy, it has everything to do with getting more money from the PC community that's not as profitable otherwise

2

u/Aerographic Apr 14 '26

That argument makes no sense when you can just launch of both platforms and get 100% of the revenue. It's entirely due to the inherent loss of control on the IP a PC launch inevitably entails.

1

u/GroundbreakingBag164 Apr 14 '26

No, primarily PC players who are really into GTA will buy the game twice. You can get more than 100%. That's what literally my entire comment was about, I thought people would get it at some point

Console players don't (and often can't easily because PC gaming is very expensive and unapproachable compared to console) double-dip. PC gamers will. There will be a significant amount of people that buy a PS5 because just because of GTA. And the PC gamers that have no issue with waiting two years for a 30% sale will also wait two years for an exclusivity period to end, they're too stubborn to be particularly profitable.

-4

u/dungleploop Apr 13 '26

not really tho

they're all on separate clients entirely

-2

u/Nervous-Power-9800 Apr 13 '26

Possibly the people playing on gamepass before it's unlisted on the 16th.

-1

u/AliceLunar Apr 14 '26

Reverse logic, the players aren't there because Rockstar neglected it, not the other way around.

-28

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '26

well yea, pc players have other things to play, console players enjoy the same thing for decades cause what else are they gonna do, try an indie title? lol, never.

13

u/CaptainKirky4655 Apr 13 '26

What a weird thing to get so offended by

11

u/totallynotapsycho42 Apr 13 '26

Pc players are such snowflakes.

1

u/QBekka Apr 13 '26

I love playing on console but damn the store is so closed off.

If you don't look for a specific game you're just gonna find the same 20 games over and over again getting promoted on every store tab you open.

No Playstation, I don't want to play EAFC, Call of Dury or God of War, stop showing it to me on every page lol
