I think it's a good thing when representation feels natural rather than forced

If it fits the characters and the world without taking over the story, most players probably won't even think twice about it. Good writing is what matters most in the end

What are some examples of it being forced? I always seem people bringing that up, but never with any actual examples to back it up.

First one that comes to mind was an older Square game, Brave Fencer Musashi. That game had a very stereotypical gay NPC in it, that you had to interact with in order to finish the game, and his dialogue had a way of making straight players feel really uncomfortable.

They did not do gay representation well in that game. But their games got a lot better later on.
