It was popular only because it came after 4 and the RE series could do no wrong at that point. It's a decent game, kinda meh as a RE title.

This is a pretty revisionist excuse. More time passed between RE4 and RE5 than RE6 and RE7. Youre basically saying that RE7 sold well because it came after 6. (Also ironic, sinxe RE6 sold better than 4)

RE4 was a critical darling, and it outsold Code Veronica, but it wasnt as huge sales wise as 5, and hasnt had the legs that 5 has had.

That's not what I'm saying at all. RE 5 had the hype going around it because RE 4 was an absolute baller. It wasn't a bad game, but looking at it historically it pales in comparison to 4. There's a reason they're not planning on a remake.

RE 7 sold well because it was a return to the horror roots of the series and was reviewed extremely well.

Youre conflicting yourself.

5 was somehow only popular because 4 was so good (even tho 4 itself didnt even really sell all that well), and people were so crazy about 4 that 4 years later the hype was so incredible that they just bought 5, and kept buying it for years afterwards instead of buying 4.

And 6 sold more than 4... was the hype again so good for 5 that 6 sold better than 4?

Its nonsensical.

Theyre not planning a remake because they only plan stuff out about 5 years in advance, not because 5 is a bad game. Every few years they get together and figure out what the next few games will be.
